VARNA BULGARIA - TRAVEL VLOG : Beaches, Monuments, Sea Garden and More! #Travelvlog
Welcome to my travel vlog! In this video, we're taking you on our adventure to Varna, Bulgaria. We started our trip by taking a flight from Eindhoven airport to Varna, and from there, we took a taxi to our hotel. We explored the city, starting with a visit to the Varna Mall, where we checked out some local shops and restaurants.
We then walked towards the city and visited the beautiful Cathedral of Varna, before continuing our journey deeper into the city. We passed through the Sea Garden and enjoyed the beach and swimming pools, along with the stunning views of the Dragon Lovers statue. We then had dinner at a lovely restaurant in the harbor called Happy and tried our luck at the casino, where we won some money!
On day two, we took a taxi up the hill to see the Bulgarian and Russian Monument, which offered us breathtaking views. We then went back to the Sea Garden and enjoyed a fun day at the Dolphinarium, where we watched an amazing dolphin show. We continued our stroll through the garden, where we saw the impressive Pantheon Monument, and some other attractions in the park. We had some delicious pizza for lunch and spent some time soaking up the sun on the beach, sipping on refreshing cocktails.
After relaxing at the beach, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up for dinner. We had some tasty sushi at the Happy restaurant in the city and took a short walk to see the iconic letters of Varna. We then had dinner at Stariya Chinar, followed by another exciting night at the casino.
On our last day, we took a taxi back to the Varna airport to catch our flight back to Eindhoven airport. We had an amazing time in Varna, and we hope you enjoyed coming along with us on this journey!

Facts About Varna

Varna is a port city and seaside resort on Bulgaria's Black Sea, next to the coastal resorts of Golden Sands, St. Konstantin and Albena. It's famous for the Gold of Varna, 6,000-year-old Thracian jewelry discovered in a necropolis, which is displayed inside the Archaeological Museum, along with Greek, Roman and Ottoman antiquities. A bar-lined waterfront promenade fronts 19th-century Primorski Park.

Episode #10 | Unique Place in Varna! (Epic City by The Black Sea!). This coastal town is an AWESOME place to visit. My other video showed a less positive side to the city... so I decided to make a video about two super unique places I visited. The Roman Baths and Bulgarian-Soviet Friendship Monument. It makes perfect sense... but when you think of Bulgaria, does ancient Roman history come to mind? For me it didn't! There are ancient Roman structures all around the country, including the Varna Roman Baths. It was amazing to visit. Only 5 Leva for an entry ticket. Highly recommend!
Then, I got a 10 minute taxi to the outskirts of the city to visit a behemoth monument that's been standing on the highest hill in Varna since 1978. It was built to dedicate Bulgaria's friendship and love for the USSR and Russia's support of Bulgaria during the 1828-29 Russo-Turkish War. It was designed to shaped like a bird with it's wings expanded. Back in the day, there was a bronze eternal flame at the front of the monument and the letters at the front of the building once said Friendship for centuries throughout centuries. At the foot of the monument once stood a library and bookshop. All the bronze has since been stolen and library destroyed. Most of what remains is heavily vandalized concrete. It's incredibly sad to see it left this way in my opinion, despite it's controversial history regarding Russia and communism.
Either way, a great day in a great city.

A peaceful but bustling walk through the beautiful Bulgarian city of Varna on a warm summer's evening. Start at the grand Orthodox Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral, with its striking gold domed roof. Walk down the pedestrianised streets, past Varna Opera House, through Nezavisimost square and up to Sevastopol square. Pass the wholesome buskers sharing their peaceful music as everyone in the city is out enjoying the warm evening. Stroll down to the Sea Garden on the Black Sea, past a group dancing the traditional circle dance, horo.
I spent a month living in Varna as a digital nomad and loved it. What a wonderful, wholesome little city!
No music, just interesting city sounds so you can soak up the vibe of the evening. Check out this city to plan your travels. Or, use the ambient city sounds for ASMR, body doubling, sleep or study.

My Bulgarian travels took me to the coast of the Black Sea and Bulgaria's 3rd biggest city, Varna.
I knew that it was out of season and so expected a quiet city. What I wasn't expecting was to find a city filled with Soviet-era architecture, including the biggest Soviet monument I'd seen on my travels so far!

History of Varna
The town was established as a trading colony in 570 B.C. under the name of Odessos (town on water) by Greek sea-faring colonizers
from the town of Milet in Asia Minor at the site of an earlier Thracian settlement.
In 15 year A.D. province of Moesia was annexed in the Roman Empire and Odessos was finally overcome.
2 and 3 century– the town’s best year. The Romans fortified the city, built a water-supply system, many temples and public buildings –
the Thermal Baths, nowadays a museum.
After the disintegration of the Roman Empire in 395 A.D., the town became an important port of the Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium)
and was converted to Christianity.
The town was destroyed several times: by the Huns (in the 5 A.D.), by the Avars and Slavs (in 6 A.D).
The Slavs gave the present name of the town – Varna. It was first mentioned when Khan Asparuh founded the First Bulgarian Kingdom in
681.
During the 13 and 14 century Varna had turned into a thriving commercial port city frequented by Genoese and later also by Venetian
and Ragusan merchant ships.
In 1393 Varna was captured from the Ottoman troops.
10 November 1444 - Battle of Varna – a crusade for the liberation of the Christians on the Balkan Peninsula led by Vadislaus III Jagello
and his Hungarian general Janos Hunyadi (20 000 crusaders) were defeated by the strong army of Sultan Murad II (60 000 soldiers).
The Russians temporarily took over the city in 1773 and again in 1828, returning it to the Ottomans in 1830.
1866 – the first railroad in Bulgarian lands connected Varna with the port of Rousse on the Danube, linking the Ottoman capital Istanbul
with Central Europe.
The town was finally liberated on 27 July 1878 after the Russo-Turkish war of 1877-1878 and it grew rapidly.
October 1972 – near Varna the Chalcolitic (Eneolithic) Necropolis was found – 5 – 4 millennium B.C. with 294 graves. The gold objects
alone are more than 3 000 and weight in total well over 6 kg., 23,5 carat – considered to be the oldest gold treasure in the world or
hundreds of years older then anything comparable elsewhere.

In this episode, David’s Been Here explores what to see and do in Varna, one of the most beautiful towns along Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast.
David begins at the Archaeological Museum of Varna, which holds an exquisite collection of artifacts spanning thousands of years. Among all the priceless objects held here is the oldest uncovered golden treasure in the world. David shows us the skeleton of the Thracian man that was found alongside his golden treasure, dating back to 5,000 B.C. The man and gold were found in an ancient necropolis in the western industrial zone of Varna. Archaeologists believe the man was around 45-50 years old when he died.
Continuing with the history tour of the city, David makes a stop to see Varna’s Roman Bath complex. These are the fourth largest Roman Baths in Europe! The bath complex still has remnants of the different rooms where cold, warm, and hot water pools were situated. Another part of the complex that is visible are the shops, which are located just outside the bath complex.
Next stop is the Varna Cathedral, the oldest cathedral in Bulgaria, dating back to 1886 (pre-dates the Sofia Cathedral). It is the biggest Cathedral on the Black Sea coast. Inside, David shows us some of the hand painted icons and scenes from Jesus’ life. Inside, the priest of the church gives us some more information about the history of the Cathedral.
After sightseeing, David works up an appetite. He heads to the pedestrian zone in the city center to get a snack of roasted corn sprinkled with cheese. For just 3 leva you can also enjoy this delicious snack.
