Rushville, Indiana: A Love Letter in Pictures
I took my 88-year-old mother to visit her 92-year-old sister in Rushville, Indiana, this summer. During my week there I felt that I, a native Californian, fully appreciated the bittersweet beauty of the heartland. Rushville has only about 6300 people, and every one I met was kind and friendly. Almost every house and business in town displays either a lion statue or a 5-pointed star of some kind. The former represents loyalty to the local high school sports teams; the latter, patriotism and support for our military. I say my experience was bittersweet because I wish I had had the opportunity to raise my son here. The last dozen shots were taken at sunrise, as I drove the farming roads around the town on my last day. Bittersweet, indeed.
