Zavoi Parc is one of the oldest parks in the country organized as such, coming into being through the Royal Office issued by the ruler Barbu Stirbei (1849 - 1853) on August 9, 1850. Râmnicu Vâlcea (population: 92,573) is the capital city of Vâlcea County, Romania (in the historical province of Oltenia).
Râmnicu Vâlcea is situated in the central-south area of Romania. Set at the foothills of the Southern Carpathians, the city is located at about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from the Cozia Mountains and about 40 kilometres (25 mi) from the Făgăraș and Lotrului Mountains. The southern limit of the city is formed by the Getic Plateau and the Olt River valley.
The E81 road (a road of European interest) and one of the main national railway routes cross the city.
The climate is defined as Dfa (humid continental with warm summers) bordering Cfa (humid subtropical). Precipitation amount is higher in the summer, although not high enough in order to be a Dwa type climate.

„O legenda locala spune ca cele patru sate de pe Lotru: Brezoiu, Malaia, Voineasa, Ciunget, ar fi fost întemeiate de patru haiduci: Breazu, Malai, Voinea si Ciungu. Pentru primele trei, explicatia s-ar putea sa exprime adevarul, pentru ultimul însa…nu.” (Ion Conea - Tara Loviştei).
Brezoiu vine ... ”din numele de persoane Breazu, nu din cel slav brez (mesteacan) cum afirma de obicei filologii. Sufixul oiu este un sufix în onomastica româneasca, la fel cu escu (Ion Conea - Tara Lovistei).

What to visit in Romania: Cozia Monastery near Sibiu/Ramnicu Valcea
Visiting the towns of Sibiu (Hermannstadt) or Ramnicu Valcea in Romania? You should also check out Cozia Monastery, located betweend these two cities, in the Olt Valley.
Built in 1388 by Mircea the Elder, king of Wallachia and grandfather of Vlad Dracula, it is a prime example of byzantine arhitecture, beautifully painted on the inside. Built right on the banks of the river Olt, it offers a good view of the river and also houses a small museum of old iconography items.
Get there by taking E81 south from Sibiu, 76 km. Follow signs for Ramnicu Valcea / Bucharest as a general direction.
If you're passing through the Olt Valley, you must stop here for a few minutes, you'll love the sights.

Printre destinațiile reprezentative ale județului Vâlcea se numără și reședința de județ Râmnicu Vâlcea, un oraș aparte care îmbină farmecul naturii cu bogăția culturală și istorică, precum și municipiul Drăgășani, cunoscut în principal prin tradiția sa viticolă milenară.
