Via Ferrata Roche au Dade, Morez
The AD via ferrata Roche au Dade in the small French jura town of Morez is a good fun course that presents a medium difficult challenge. Parking is literally at the base of the route with no more than 50 steps to the start. The course will take about 1 hour to complete with 30 mins for the descent. It is enjoyable with 3 distinct sections, the quarry, the forest and the final climb. I liked the course in total and thought it was nicely designed with some intuitive sections that made good use of the rock contact. In the first part of the via ferrata there are a few variants that can be attempted also, particularly a athletic climb up the side of the quarry, or a tyrolliene slide.
Overall, a good fun via ferrata that won't be the best you ever did, but worth a detour to this little town to have a go!

During our France Adventure we discovered a hotel in the centre of Tours that has a wondeful history, having first opened in 1846, then beautifully renovated in 2016. The hotel has had many famous guests, some of these guests are artfully displayed on the walls of the main lobby. This video tries to show the beauty of the hotel, whilst highlighting the key areas of the hotel.
Our stay was in an executive room which was booked through the hotel website and included breakfast. There is onsite parking for an additional charge.
We like the location of the hotel as it is close to the tram stop, shops, restaurants and walking distance to the train station.

LACS DE BELLEFONTAINE - CHAPELLE DES BOIS - VTT MTB JURA 2023
Last week went to explore the quite big forêt du Risoux from the lac des Rousses.
You could even cycle to these 2 lakes from les Rousses crossing le Risoux.
This time drove to Bellefontaine also not far from home. Could not follow my original Garmin plan as sections were closed... Went on exploring and realized the mtb vtt tracks map was giant around this place. So much to explore yet and you can do in one go lac des Rousses and the ones of Bellefontaine.
Great sceneries, large forests, many lakes and not too crowed.

Saint Cergue Switzerland
In the Vaudois Jura, a few minutes from Nyon and Lake Geneva, Saint-Cergue is a popular family resort, both winter and summer.
The village of Saint-Cergue (1,047 m) is a real gateway to the Vaudois Jura Regional Park, a site covering over 530 km2. Dominated by the Dôle (1677 m), pine forests, valleys and clearings offer spectacular views over Lake Geneva, the Alps and the Jura. Saint-Cergue and La Givrine can be reached by car or train from Nyon. In the refreshing pine-scented forests, there is a network of marked trails for hikers, quads, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing (120 km of trails) and dog sledding. There is also downhill skiing for families in Dôle and Saint-Cergue which also offers the unique experience of floodlit slopes in the centre of the village. Many winter night-time excursions end around a typically Swiss fondue in a mountain restaurant, like in Basseruche, which offers a multitude of activities in winter (show-shoeing, tobogganing) and summer (zip lines, Swin Golf).
La Dole Switzerland
#switzerland, #juramountains
La Dôle is a mountain of the Jura, overlooking Lake Geneva in the westernmost part of the canton of Vaud. Rising to an altitude of 1677 meters, it is the second highest peak in the Swiss portion of the Jura, after Mont Tendre. Administratively, the summit is split between the municipalities of Gingins, Chéserex and La Rippe. The mountain is also close to and easily accessible from Saint-Cergue and the Col de la Givrine to the north, both above 1000 meters and connected to Nyon on Lake Geneva by road and by the Nyon–St-Cergue–Morez Railway. A paved road also climbs to the Chalet de la Dôle below the summit (1439 m) from Gingins.[3]

Le Train Jaune from Villefranche Vernet les Bains, France
Le Train Jaune departs from from Villefranche Vernet les Bains and travels to Latour de Carol in France. Make sure you have three euro coins for the parking at Villefranche station. Dogs are welcome in the train and add to the jaunty atmosphere of the trip. We chose the open carriage and of course it rained and we had to share a closed carriage with the excited pre-schoolers on their excursion to the mountains. Background music is Open Sea Morning by Puddle of Infinity.

Today we take off to yet another off-beat gem, located in the Chaumont commune of France.
The Chaumont Viaduct is undoubtedly a local celebrity, and in the following paragraphs, we will help you understand why exactly it deserves your consideration as a well-known adventure lover.
Chaumont Viaduct: a brief history
The Chaumont Viaduct is a railroad bridge that crosses the Suize River and is a part of the Paris-Basel railroad line.
The beginning of its construction began back in 1855 and was completely finished as soon as 1856. A spectacular three-story, semi-circular arch bridge was erected in just one year, which is both fully functional and amazingly beautiful. To make this possible, an average of 2,500 workers were engaged in the viaduct construction, who used to work day and night.
In 1994, the German troops destroyed four of the viaduct piers, and the viaduct was temporarily out of use. Anyway, the dynamited parts of it were later rebuilt in stone-covered concrete and are still standing strong.
Nowadays, the Chaumont Viaduct is still in use: you can observe it from a distance or experience it directly by riding the train above the river, overlooking Chaumont's scenery. Wait for it when the train passes! 😉
Chaumont Viaduct: construction details
The Chaumont Viaduct is indeed a remarkable construction to observe both in terms of architecture and aesthetics.
The railway bridge is exactly 654 meters long. It rises 52 meters above the valley floor and the water surface. The construction involves over 60 000 m³ of stonework, while its piers and arches are entirely masonry work.
What's pretty unique about the bridge are its 50 triple-tiered arches, the levels of which reach between 3 and 15 meters of height. To make the view even more striking, the Chaumont Viaduct is illuminated every evening at nightfall.
Sounds like a distinguished postcard material, does it not? To experience the place's actual vividness, you can enjoy our HD video and start packing immediately afterward.
