Nor Cal Beach Town - Fort Bragg better than Mendocino? Unique Sea Glass Beach and more!

Fort Bragg Is Way Cool and has many things to do! Sea Glass beach, Coastal Bike Rides, Noyo Marina, Pudding Creek Trestle (Love Lock Bridge), Skunk Train and more all right on the rugged Pacific coast highway. Plus we found a great place to stay and terrific places to eat. Fort Bragg has more things to do than staying in nearby well known Mendocino and fort Bragg also has places to stay right on the coast! This is a relatively undiscovered destination that you could easily spend a whole week at but we had 2 days. Great adventure in Northern California.

Most people in CA have heard of Glass Beach, right? Well lots of beaches have some degree of glass called sea glass on their shores but this place super sizes it. This unfortunate legacy of a coastal dump actually turned into a major tourist attraction for Fort Bragg. I mean the sea glass goes down a foot or so. WOW.

But Fort Bragg actually has much more to offer. Many people go to Mendocino for its romantic small town Charm but 15 minutes away is a bevy of things to do in Fort Bragg plus hotels right on the coast and more places to eat.

The coastal bike trail goes north 4 miles to MacKerricher State Park. Flat, paved and scenic the entire way -- it really does not get better. The Pudding Creek Bridge/Trestle is picture perfect and is open to people walking and riding bikes. Tourist destination where people leave locks on the bridge to memorialize loved ones.

We stayed at the Surf and Sand Lodge. The owner is the same as the hotel next door which had bikes free for using. Being on the beach there is some wear and tear but the bikes worked fine and the free borrow process very easy. We had a kitchen in our hotel room but ate out all the time.

Latin food at Mayan Fusion: 418 North Main St, Fort Bragg. see menu at
Seafood at Noyo River Grill. 32150 N Harbor Dr, Fort Bragg. see menu at
Italian at Cucina Verona . 124 E Laurel St, Fort Bragg. see menu at

- All Superb.

We did our trip in April so it was before the summer season when kayaking is very popular on the Noyo River.

Top Tourist Attractions in Mendocino, CA – Travel Video

Mendocino is located in Northern California and about 150 miles north of San Francisco. Many places in this county are known for scenic views, glass bottom beaches and tall redwood trees. Please click on the links below for more details of the places.

Mendocino, CA

Point Arena Lighthouse
Do you remember the last race scene in the movie “Need for Speed”? This is the location of that shoot

Carmet Beach
This is a small beach on Highway 1, along the pacific coast in Bodega Bay. You may spend some time watching the scenic view, fly drone and have snacks.

Glass Beach
This is a perfect beach for viewing sunset. The rocks in the beach make the sunset pictures beautiful.

Jug Handle State Reserve and Beach
It’s a small and beautiful beach. Beach is covered by hills on two sides, which makes the place less windy & allows only the breeze from the ocean. An ideal place for photos & sunset viewing.

Russian Gulch State Park
An awesome place for camping. Even if you are not camping, trails are exciting. Fern Canyon trails takes you to 40 feet waterfalls.

All the photos and videos are captured during the month of March & April 2018.

Glass Beach as the most COLORFUL place in Fort Bragg, California

In California, a chain of Glass Beaches is considered to be a natural wonder. There are three known beaches in the Fort Bragg region and it shows how the nature deals with the results of human ignorance and indifference.

Fort Bragg, like many other cities located by the coastline, have been dumping garbage into the ocean. The dumping sites in Fort Bragg functioned from 1906 till 1967 and have accumulated a lot of trash, the heaviest of which, the glass, stayed close to the shore.

As a result the waves started washing out some of the heavy particles, which were influenced by power of water tides and waves, so they didn’t have sharp edges anymore and nowadays look like shiny, colorful glass stones.

So the Glass Beach in California is a great tourism attraction of our time but it should make us think about a lot of things.

There are many other flamboyant places in the world, which you should visit. To help you build your bucket list, we created an interactive video presentation here:

We have already reviewed such cool and unusual tourist destinations:

- the wisteria tunnels of Japan;

- rice paddy art in Aomori;

- The Grand Prismatic Spring, USA;

- Zhangye Danxia landscape, China;

- and many more to come.

Please share your favorite tourism places.

Thanks for your time!

Fort Bragg/Mendocino in 48 HOURS

Greetings! Here we did a 2 day trip up to the Fort Bragg area in Mendocino county. We visited a few interesting parks and rode on the Skunk Train. We've been here before a long time ago. We wanted to revisit it and hit some of the places we missed and check out some restaurants. It's a nice area that has that typical northern California climate that has the early morning marine layer which most of the time burns off. Regardless of the weather though, this is a very beautiful area. We love this place as a nice get away to just relax and enjoy. We went to Glass Beach where the main attraction is the small glass beads that over time became a part of the beach. Unfortunately people have been taking the glass beads over time and it's not the same as it used to be. Still its a nice place to visit and it's still unusual.
The Skunk Train is another interesting as it is a piece of history in this area. We think it's well the ride just to experience not just the train ride, but also to learn about what it was used for and how that region's industry has changed over time.
The other places we visited were really nice parks. Fern Canyon, Russian Gulch and Jug Handle were all very nice naturally preserved areas that showcase the areas climate and natural beauty. The beaches, the redwoods and the other plants and fauna’s are unique to this area that goes all the way up to the north western part of the United States.
Being tourist attractions does have some benefits in that there are really good places to eat up here. We especially love microbreweries.
This area is such a nice place to go. Check out our video and maybe it will inspire you to go and visit.

If you have any questions regarding any of the restaurants we featured in this video, please leave us a comment and we will get back to you right away.
