Santa Rita Road | Templeton, California [Off The Beaten Track Episode 7]
We drive the Power Wagon along Santa Rita Road near Templeton on California's Central Coast. This scenic 15-mile route moves through ranch land, orchards, and vineyards to wooded creekside hills. It is mostly very well-graded dirt, with a few miles of pavement at each end.

This route sits between Highway 46 to the north and Highway 41 to the south, and follows approximately the same direction, running from close to the US 101 freeway in the east to the coastal area in the west. If we had to guess, we'd say this road was not paved because it is just too winding (compared to the above-mentioned roads), and it serves today mostly as access to the various ranches and residences dotted along its course.
At the west end, the road terminates where it joins Old Creek Road; making a left at the junction takes you to Whale Rock Reservoir and the coastal towns of Cayucos and Morro Bay a little further south.
Though steep and twisting in places, the road is very well-graded and there are no specific vehicle requirements for the route; that said, we would not recommend the route when conditions are wet due to the combination of steep drop-offs at various points coupled with tight turns.
One thing to be aware of for the general safety of everyone is that from our experience this road appears to be a popular route for cyclists. We encountered several cyclists along the way, and the steep, twisting, blind corners at various points mean extra caution should be exercised.
There is no camping anywhere along Santa Rita Road and it is important to note that county roads such as this often cross private property. While you may have a right to travel along the route, all no trespassing signs and other posted notices must be obeyed.

With Ridgway, Pennsylvania behind, I get on The Clarion-Little Toby Creek Trail to start this crazy difficult 80 mile day. This first of four trails I rode today had me thinking it would be a chill day but so wrong I was. Between each of the trails I encountered serious climbing adding to over 2,500 feet of gain with the last hilly section of the day being the most difficult. I ride past two beautiful towns, Brockway and Brookville before ending at the community of Templeton where I was treated with great kindness by total strangers.

SEDONA Arizona - Cathedral Rock - Virtual run on the Templeton Trail at Sunset
SEDONA Arizona red rocks look fantastic at sunset as I ran the Templeton Trail near Cathedral Rock. Almost 60 minute trail run and filmed at sunset to further accentuate the stunning landscape features. I slow walk the scenic portions of the trail and some uphill because I'm a better filmmaker then trail runner. Relax and enjoy the scenery, a perfect stress relief, or use the video as Treadmill workout background. It is one of the most scenic trails in Sedona I had privilege to run and I am glad to share this with you. It's the place of one of the vortexes in Sedona.

U.S. Route 101 (US 101) is a major north–south United States Numbered Highway, stretching from Los Angeles, California to Tumwater, Washington. The California portion of US 101 is one of the last remaining and longest U.S. Routes still active in the state, and the longest highway of any kind in California. US 101 was also one of the original national routes established in 1926.
