Svishtov (Свищов) - home of the Holy Trinity church, filmed with a drone

Svishtov town in Bulgaria, filmed with a drone
Buy me a coffee, guys :) - or

Photos:
Locations:

Saturday afternoon was favorable for flights and I was able to capture some of the features of this beautiful town. If only Sunday was not that gloomy and rainy we would have shot many more interesting places, at least now we feel an urge to go back. This is the town of Svishtov, a place rich of history and essential for the Bulgarian renaissance and cultural awakening during the late Ottoman rule and after the reestablishment of our sovereign status. This is the first town that has been liberated during the 1877-1878 Russo Turkish war and the city keeps many building and monuments from this era and before it, and only a little part of all we were able to have a closer look at that day. Most prominently, passing peacefully besides the city is the Danube river, separating the country from Romania, which can be clearly seen in the distance with its closest city Zimnicea. The first half of the video is centered around one of the most famous landmarks of the city – the church Holy Trinity, built by the renowned architect Nikola Fichev (Kolyu Ficheto), who gave birth of a number of significant structures scattered mainly in northern Bulgaria. Near the church is the famous High school of Trading “Dimitar Hadjivasilev”, finished in 1895. Going along the main street we land on the northern part, where on a scenic hill once protecting the city stay the ruins of an old fortification, called Kaleto, records say 4th century was when its construction began. The park and amphitheater around provide a pleasant way to relax and look at the city and the river from higher ground, appreciating the town in its whole beauty. Right below the park, the first building is the Academy of Economics “D.A. Tsenov”, attracting students from the whole country with its fame, sadly a bit tarnished in the last years. This academy has always been invigorating the place with young people. We flew over another famous landmark on our way to the center, which is the old Clocktower, built by an architect named Bogdan. Little is known for this gentleman, but the tower stands tall for more than 250 years after its construction in 1763 year. The center area is briefly covered and will be left for future flights, so we go over to another old church, called Holy Transfiguration of God, built in 1836 year. Near that church is the house and museum of Aleko Konstantinov, one of the many famous people born in the town, but my coverage was not extensive of the house, perhaps next time I’m here we will take a spin. It can clearly be spotted by a huge Bulgarian flag waving in the wind. The last church we visit on the way back is the oldest of them all – St. Dimitar (or Demetrios), which is the one I got baptized in an age ago. I ended our aerial walk with this personal symbolic place for me place, with a desire to come back soon and capture more.

Bulgaria is one of the oldest countries in Europe, but also one of the least explored.

When we thought about going to Bulgaria, we only had a week to visit the country. As the flight landed in Sofia, it is clear that the capital of Bulgaria would be the first place to visit. Although part of the group didn't have high expectations for Sofia, in the end, it was a pleasant surprise for everyone. There are a number of things to visit and enjoy around the city center, on a tour that is very well done on foot. We spent two full days in Sofia, a nd it was more than enough.

Then, we went to Velico Tarnovo and took the bus trip. It was 3 hours of travel that passed in an instant.

Velico Tarnovo is a city in central northern Bulgaria, on the banks of the Yantra River. It is often referred to as the “city of the Tsars.” The city has a unique architecture, in which we highlight the old city and the three hills that rise from the river.

The Hill of Tsarevets is what stands out the most, due to the important fortification that was built there in the 12th century. We spent 3 days of absolute relaxation and communion with the city's cultural life.

Again on the road, and again by bus, we went to visit the Black Sea, more precisely the city of Varna. The trip lasted again about three hours, in which we enjoyed landscapes that varied from cereal plains to low hills. Varna is a somewhat run-down seaside town, where we highlight the fantastic park that runs along the beaches, making a buffer between the beach and the city, and the Archeology Museum that you should not miss. The park is very well maintained and deserves a long walk. It is the third city in Bulgaria and has an important history where the presence of the Roman Empire stands out at every corner.

Bulgaria 1000 | Ep 4: Cele mai Frumoase Orașe ale Bulgariei, Pasul Troyan, Devetashka și Krushuna

#bulgaria1000 #cicloturism #bicicleta

AmaWaterways Danube River Cruise Excursion to Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria from Budapest to Istanbul

AmaWaterways Danube River Cruise Excursion to Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria during a fantastic river cruise from Budapest, Hungary to Istanbul, Turkey documented by travel filmmaker Clint Denn. AmaWaterways is the premier river cruise line in the travel industry with 15 luxury river cruise ships throughout Europe, in Russia between Moscow and St. Petersburg, along the Mekong River from Vietnam to Cambodia and on the Chobe River in Africa in conjunction with land safari programs.

Veliko Tarnovo is a city in north central Bulgaria and the administrative centre of Veliko Tarnovo Province. Often referred to as the City of the Tsars, Veliko Tarnovo is located on the Yantra River and is famous as the historical capital of the Second Bulgarian Empire, attracting many tourists with its unique architecture. Until 1965 the name of the town was Tarnovo, and this is still the common name. The old city is situated on three hills, Tsarevets, Trapezitsa and Sveta Gora raising amidst the meanders of the Yantra. Tsarevets housed the palaces of the Bulgarian Emperors and the Patriarchate with the Patriarchal Cathedral, as well as a number of administrative and residential edifices surrounded by thick walls.

Trapezitsa was known for its many churches and as the main residence of the nobility. In the Middle Ages it was among the main European centers of culture and gave its name to the architecture of the Tarnovo Artistic School, painting of the Tarnovo Artistic School and literature. Veliko Tarnovo is an important administrative, economic, educational and cultural centre of Northern Bulgaria. As of February 2011, the town has a population of 118,783.
AmaWaterways is celebrating its 10th Anniversary by looking back on an award winning 2011 which saw their fleet expanded to 14 of the most luxurious river cruise ships in the industry. In 2012 they will add the AmaCerto, with a host of amazing new design features, and the Zambezi Queen, which will ply the waters of the Chobe River in the Chobe National Park during AmaWaterways African Safaris and Wildlife River Cruises.

While adding new ships every year, AmaWaterways is always retrofitting existing ships with the latest amenities, upgrades and inventions. With a commitment to bring the best in river cruise vacations, AmaWaterways' has always and will always lead the way in unparalleled on-board services that are constantly fine-tuned for the highest customer satisfaction. These factors, combined with a slate of new itineraries and specialty programs such as extremely popular Wine River Cruises, which were launched in 2010, had made AmaWaterways the front runner in this burgeoning new segment of the travel business.

Over the years AmaWaterways garnered a number of Magellan Awards from Travel Weekly, picked up an Award of Excellence form Luxury Travel Advisor, a Cruise Passenger Readers Choice Award in Australia for Best River Ship and was recognized for its Twitter account that put AmaWaterways on the list of The Top 25 Online Cruise Vacation Influencers by Influencers in Travel.
