Caminando por la Feria Agrícola del Último Lunes de Octubre. Gernika Walk. Lunes, 31 Octubre 2022. Doce menos cuarto de la mañana. 23 grados de temperatura. El último Lunes de Gernika se celebra el último Lunes de Octubre. Es la Feria Agrícola más importante de Bizkaia y una de las más destacadas de todo Euskadi. Es un mercado tradicional que se celebra en la calle con centenares de puestos de hortalizas, fruta y verdura. Con un protagonismo destacado para las afamadas alubias de la localidad. Pueden reunirse centenares de puestos. 293 este Año. Si buscas la mejor miel, queso, txakoli de Bizkaia, sidra u hortalizas este es tu sitio y tu momento. También puedes degustar los deliciosos talos. Los bertsolaris amenizan la mañana. En esta feria no hay venta de ganado.

I was on a layover from the Camino de Santiago (Ruta Norte) in the Basque Country of northern Spain (País Vasco) to rest up from the arduous journey in August, 2020. I took some time to explore the amazing city of Bilbao Spain - another historical and beautiful city in a country full of history and beauty. Whilst exploring Casco Viejo (old town) a noticed there were hardly any tourists in a city that would normally be completely full of tourists in the month of August, especially Casco Viejo. Nonetheless, I take you through the colorful and narrow alleyways, past some interesting sites, and up a hill to a beautiful park that overlooks the city. I will have a second video of Bilbao that shows you the modern part of the city - and you won't want to miss it. It is truly an incredible city and distinct from all other cities in Spain because of the mesh of modern and old architecture. Stay tuned...

Bilbao is a city in northern Spain, the largest city in the province of Biscay and in the Basque Country as a whole. It is also the largest city proper in northern Spain. Bilbao is the tenth largest city in Spain, with a population of 345,141 as of 2015. The Bilbao metropolitan area has 1,037,847 inhabitants, making it one of the most populous metropolitan areas in northern Spain; with a population of 875,552 the comarca of Greater Bilbao is the fifth-largest urban area in Spain. Bilbao is also the main urban area in what is defined as the Greater Basque region.
ARTKLASS BUILDING: If you stand before this building designed by architects Robert Krier and Marc Breitman in the Plaza Euskadi, your gaze is drawn automatically to the green and golden domes. They are the top of a building covering 45,000 square metres, with 180 apartments on eight floors; it occupies a block facing in six different directions. The objective set by Krier has been to recover the traditional style of the Ensanche houses without losing modernity.
IBERDROLA TOWER: Is an office skyscraper in Bilbao, Spain. Its construction started on 19 March 2009 and was officially inaugurated by King Juan Carlos I on 21 February 2012. The tower has a height of 165 metres (541 feet) tall and has 40 floors. The first eight floors of the tower were to hold a hotel by the Spanish hotel chain ABBA, but the project was eventually cancelled. The hotel will be replaced by an auditorium with the capacity of 200 people. The remaining floors have an office usage. The tower, built as Iberdrola's headquarters, is the tallest building in the Basque Country and the city of Bilbao, and the eighth tallest building in Spain.
CAMPA DE LOS INGLESES PARK: The park of the Campa de los Ingleses occupies the green space between Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Deusto Bridge as well as the new buildings like the Library of the University of Deusto, the Auditorium of the UPV-EHU and the Iberdrola Tower, among others. This area, which in its time has been a British cemetery, the Athletic football ground, is 25,000 m2 and was landscaped by Diana Balmori, who also designed the Plaza de Euskadi.
GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM: Is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry, and located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. The museum was inaugurated on 18 October 1997 by King Juan Carlos I of Spain, with an exhibition of 250 contemporary works of art. Built alongside the Nervion River, which runs through the city of Bilbao to the Cantabrian Sea, it is one of several museums belonging to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and features permanent and visiting exhibits of works by Spanish and international artists. It is one of the largest museums in Spain.
LA SALVE BRIDGE: Is a quarter in the 2nd district of the city of Bilbao, Spain. It gains its name from the fact that sailors, returning from sea, would first see the tower of the Basilica of Begoña at this point as ships returned up the river Nervión, which runs through the city. According to folklore, they would start praying to the Virgin Begoña, the patron saint of the region, thanking her for protecting them during their time at sea.
Today, the main landmark of the area is La Salve Bridge, popular name for the Princes of Spain cable-stayed bridge, built in the 1970s to provide a northern access over the river to the city. This bridge gained popularity when the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao was built right under it, literally merging its structure into the museum's.

This was Day 5 of the Camino de Santiago, Camino del Norte and it was the last day before I would reach the industrial and impressive city of Bilbao, Spain. It was the first milestone of the trip, and I was extremely happy and relieved to have arrived. The views in Basque Country (País Vasco) along the north Atlantic Coast, or Bay of Biscay, remained beautiful as always, and never fail to surprise.
I was joined by a very nice Spaniard and fellow pilgrim (peregrino), Juan Carlos from Ribofarada, Navarra. My body was pretty beat up, so as soon as arrived to my Albergue (Hostel) in Bilbao, I started to film a time-lapse with my Gopro7 and took a much needed nap. I was awakened by a nice lad from Ireland, and he and I had something in common..The next two videos will be tourist and exploration of Bilbao, the biggest city in País Vasco, and 5th biggest in the extraordinary country of Spain.
Este fue el día 5 del camino de Santiago, camino del Norte y fue el último día antes de llegar a la ciudad industrial e impresionante de Bilbao, España. Fue el primer hito del viaje, y me sentí muy feliz y aliviada de haber llegado. Las vistas en el país Vasco (país Vasco) a lo largo de la costa atlántica norte, o Bahía de Vizcaya, se mantuvieron hermosas como siempre, y nunca dejan de sorprender.
Me acompañó un Español muy majo y un compañero peregrino, Juan Carlos de Ribofarada, Navarra. Mi cuerpo estaba bastante golpeado, así que tan pronto como llegué a mi Albergue en Bilbao, comencé a grabar un lapso de tiempo con mi Gopro7 y tomé una siesta muy necesaria. Me despertó un muchacho de Irlanda, y él y yo teníamos algo en común...los próximos dos videos serán el turismo y la exploración de Bilbao, la ciudad más grande de País Vasco, y el quinto más grande del extraordinario país de España.

The Gothic Quarter (Catalan: Barri Gòtic or El Gòtic, Spanish: Barrio Gótico) is the historic centre of the old city of Barcelona. It stretches from La Rambla to Via Laietana, and from the Mediterranean seafront to the Ronda de Sant Pere. It is a part of Ciutat Vella district.
The quarter encompasses the oldest parts of the city of Barcelona, and includes the remains of the city's Roman wall and several notable medieval landmarks. Much of the present-day fabric of the quarter, however, dates to the 19th and early 20th centuries. El Call, the medieval Jewish quarter, is located within this area, along with the former Sinagoga Major.
The Barri Gòtic retains a labyrinthine street plan, with many small streets opening out into squares. Most of the quarter is closed to regular traffic although open to service vehicles and taxis.
El Barrio Gótico (en catalán, Barri Gòtic) es uno de los cuatro barrios que forman el distrito de Ciudad Vieja de Barcelona.
El Barrio Gótico es el núcleo más antiguo de la ciudad y su centro histórico. Antiguamente era conocido como «barrio de la Catedral». El cardus y el decumanus romanos son los ejes de urbanización históricos del barrio en su parte más alta, el antiguo Monte Táber (plaza de San Jaime).
A su vez, está compuesto por diferentes barrios que conservan su propia personalidad: la Judería (Call en catalán), Santos Justo y Pastor, Santa María del Pino, la Catedral, Santa Ana, La Merced y el Palacio.
Inicialmente, la denominación «Barrio Gótico» fue un eslogan turístico inventado por Adolf Florensa, concejal del Ayuntamiento de Barcelona. La idea original de crear el Barrio Gótico fue sin embargo del escritor Ramón Rucabado. En 1927, Florensa hizo un inventario catalogando un total de cinco obras que se podrían definir como góticas en Barcelona. De hecho, Joan Rubió, autor del puente flamígero de la calle del Obispo (1928), dijo que «el Barrio Gótico no se ha de respetar ni mucho ni poco, porque no existe».
La estructura del barrio permaneció intacta hasta el siglo XIX, periodo que trajo grandes transformaciones en la estructura y morfología del barrio, como por ejemplo la transformación de los cementerios parroquiales en plazas públicas, el vaciado de grandes edificios con el consiguiente cambio de uso o el derribo de las murallas.
Actualmente se conservan trozos de la primera muralla en la plaza de la Seo, frente a la catedral de Barcelona. En la calle Ataúlfo existe una capilla gótica que pertenecía al Palacio Real Menor de Barcelona y se conoce por la capilla del Palacio.
El Barri Gòtic (Kurzform: El Gòtic, katalanisch für gotisches Viertel, kastilisch: Barrio Gótico) ist das älteste Stadtviertel von Barcelona, das sich aus der römischen Siedlung Barcino entwickelte. Es gehört zum Verwaltungsbezirk Ciutat Vella (katalanisch für Altstadt).
Das Viertel wird im Südwesten begrenzt durch die Promenade La Rambla, im Nordwesten durch den Platz Plaça de Catalunya und die Straße Carrer de Fontanella, im Nordosten durch die breite Durchgangsstraße Via Laietana und im Südosten durch das Mittelmeer.
Die meisten Baudenkmäler stammen aus dem 14. und 15. Jahrhundert, der Blütezeit Barcelonas als Seemacht. Das Stadtbild ist geprägt durch viele enge und verwinkelte Gassen. Die Kathedrale, welche den Mittelpunkt des Barri Gòtic bildet, ist umringt von vielen geschichtsträchtigen Gebäuden. Das Barri Gòtic wurde in den 1920er Jahren umfassend saniert. In den Gassen des Viertels befinden sich bekannte Museen und viele kleine Geschäfte.
Zusammen mit den Stadtvierteln El Raval, La Barceloneta und Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera bildet es die Altstadt von Barcelona.
Die Gegend wurde unter der Herrschaft des römischen Kaisers Augustus besiedelt. An der Stelle der Plaça de Sant Jaume befand sich das Römische Forum.
Im Barri Gòtic befinden sich u. a. das Ajuntament de Barcelona (Rathaus der Stadt) und der Palau de la Generalitat (Sitz der katalanischen Regierung).
