Caginera beach comes with more than one story to tell. First of all La Cagonera is no longer accessible by foot, a major landslide closed the only footpath that was built to reach it. If you find this Los Mayanes beach familiar even though you haven’t been here it’s because it’s very very similar to the Cervigón/El Rinconín beach . Yes? No? Los Mayanes beach is located right between the Cervigón beach and San Lorenzo beach in Gijón and has a little bit of both.
You might find Cervigón beach under 2 more names, if you find it at all! Although you will surely see it if you happen to visit Gijón, it does not show up on official maps even if it’s one of the important beaches of this municipality. It’s called Cervigón because it’s limited to the West
The Peñarrubia beach is closed for safety reasons! Which is a pity, really, this beach is extremely beautiful and quite close to Gijón. It’s been closed a few years back because of massive landslides – actually the restaurant on top of the cliffs is slowly going down (closed too) and big rocks are constantly falling.
Arbeyal is the most western beach in the municipality of Gijón, one of the 3 urban ones that are actually located in the city – the other 2 being the Poniente beach and the San Lorenzo beach. For me Arbeyal and the Poniente beach are quite similar.
Poniente beach has also a second name: Natahoyo and a story. And that’s because this beach was artificially created to improve an area known as El Fomento located by the shipyards that still exist in some extend nearby. That happened around 1994 and supposed a complete change of the neighborhood.
Estaño is one of the most beautiful beaches in the municipality of Gijón, maybe because it’s well outside the city (5km away) and thus far, far away from cars, buildings and noise. Estaño is quite secluded but easy to find and get to and that’s because of a footpath that links all the beaches .
The beach of Serín is located to the east of Cape and Islet of San Lorenzo. It’s one of the beaches of the municipality of Gijón, easy to find but not quite crowded in high season due to it being hidden behind high cliffs where the sun shines only in the morning.
The Bay of Gijón, where you will find the San Lorenzo beach, is one of the most beautiful in the north of Spain and definitely the most visited. San Lorenzo is a long urban beach (1.5km long) surrounded by a wide promenade and a string of hotels, bars, restaurants and shops.

Gijón is a city and municipality in north-western Spain. It is the largest city and municipality by population in the autonomous community of Asturias. It is located on the coast of the Cantabrian Sea in the Bay of Biscay, in the central-northern part of Asturias; it is approximately 24 km (15 mi) north-east of Oviedo, the capital of Asturias, and 26 km (16 mi) from Avilés. With a population of 271,780, Gijón is the 15th largest city in Spain.
Gijón forms part of a large metropolitan area that includes twenty councils in the center of the region, structured with a dense network of roads, highways and railways and with a population of 835,053 inhabitants in 2011, making it the seventh largest in Spain.
During the 20th century, Gijón developed as an industrial city in the steel and naval industries. However, due to the decline in manufacturing in these industries, in recent years Gijón is undergoing a transformation into an important tourist, university, commercial and R&D center. Gijón is the location of the Radiotelevisión del Principado de Asturias, the neighbourhood of Cimavilla, the Universidad Laboral de Gijón, the Revillagigedo Palace, and the adjoining Collegiate Church of San Juan Bautista.

Gijón (en asturiano, Xixón) es un concejo —denominación que reciben los municipios asturianos— y una ciudad española con la categoría histórica de villa. Se sitúa a orillas del mar Cantábrico, en el Principado de Asturias, comunidad autónoma de la que es el municipio más poblado, con 272 202 habitantes en 2021.Es la única entidad singular de población de la parroquia en el concejo.
Geográficamente se localiza junto a una bahía en la zona central-septentrional de Asturias, a 28 km de Oviedo y 26 km de Avilés, formando parte de una gran área metropolitana que abarca veinte concejos del centro de la región. Esta área está vertebrada por una densa red de carreteras, autopistas y ferrocarriles y contaba una población de 835 053 habitantes en 2011, los cuales la convierten en la séptima de España. En la península ibérica se sitúa en la parte central de la cornisa cantábrica y a escala europea en la zona sur del Arco Atlántico.

The Palace of Revillagigedo or the Marquis of San Esteban del Mar de Natahoyo is a prominent Spanish palace located in the Asturian town of Gijón, Spain, in the neighborhood of Cimadevilla and Plaza del Marqués de San Esteban, next to the Collegiate Church of San Juan. It is a remarkable example of the Asturian palatial architecture of the XVIII century. In 1974 it was declared of Cultural Interest and today, after its rehabilitation, it houses together with the chapel aneja the Cultural Center Cajastur Palacio Revillagigedo. The foundation of the building is due to Carlos Miguel Ramírez de Jove, the first Marquis of San Esteban del Mar de Natahoyo (nobility title granted by Felipe V on March 20, 1708), who ordered him to build in 1704 taking advantage of the medieval Gothic tower (XV century) preexisting. It is known as Palacio de Revillagigedo because in the same family that built it later relapsed the title of Counts of Revillagigedo. The work finished in 1721, and was under the direction of Francisco Menéndez Camina, who also projected the Palace of Fieldsagrado of Avilés. The Baroque building is made up of two crenellated towers of four heights, one older (right as you look at the facade) and the other built to maintain symmetry, and a three-height central body that joins the towers and which Enhances the facade. It contrasts in the palace the austerity and solidity of the towers with the decorative abundance of the center. This part is divided in five streets, starting from the ground floor. In it are the five arches that form a gallery porticada, whose exterior columns extend through the facade of the building towards the roof and separate the streets. The central one is slightly wider, and is articulated with Ionic columns in the ground floor, of compound order in the first floor and of Tuscan type in the second. Between these last ones the shield is arranged, under a slightly curved cornice. The first floor constitutes the noble part, with five windows with balcony. Inside there is a central quadrangular patio, organized around eight Tuscan columns. The heraldic shield of the facade was completely rebuilt in 2004 after an intensive investigation led by Father Patac. This scholar, after the agreement with Cajastur investigated within the catalogs of the Asturian Academy of Heraldry and Genealogy and in the National Historical Archive. Thanks also to a photograph dated in 1860 in which appears the shield was able to create a copy in sandstone. The contiguous chapel, with collegiate status, was completed fifteen years later than the palace and is dedicated to St. John the Baptist. Also of baroque style, it follows the same ornamentation and design as the rest of the buildings. Funding was provided by the prior of the cathedral of Oviedo Luis Ramirez de Valdés, uncle of the marquis. In the work, in addition to Menéndez Camina, the architect Gijón Pedro Muñiz Somonte collaborated, who made the roofs and the tower. Architecturally it is a temple of average size but of monumental aspect. It has a basilical floor plan with three naves, featuring the lateral tribunes for exclusive use of the Marquis's family, and a square bell tower at the foot, which also acts as a porch. The apse of the collegiate is introduced into the palatial complex and is semicircular. The chapel cover combines canyon vaults with arches fajones in the ships, with those of crucería in the cruise and presbytery. In the exterior, the southern doorway gives access to one of the arms of the cruiser.

La Calzada es uno de los barrios del distrito Oeste del municipio de Gijón, y uno de los más populosos, con 24.886 habitantes según el padrón del año 2018. Lugar de tránsito desde tiempos remotos, su nombre viene dado por una supuesta calzada romana que unía el Castro de Noega, actual Parque Arqueológico-Natural de la Campa Torres y asentamiento humano más antiguo del concejo, con la supuesta Gigia, el germen romano que dio lugar a la ciudad de Gijón.
Siendo una antigua zona industrial, en la actualidad se está centrando en los servicios y el ocio. En el barrio se encuentra la estación de Calzada de Asturias y el Centro Municipal de Empresas de Gijón.
Forma parte del distrito V (también llamado distrito oeste), junto con los barrios vecinos de Jove, Tremañes, El Natahoyo y Moreda, llegando a sumar todo el distrito en torno a 50.000 habitantes.

El Estadio El Molinón, oficialmente denominado Estadio Municipal El Molinón-Enrique Castro «Quini», es un recinto deportivo de titularidad municipal situado en la ciudad de Gijón, Asturias, España. Alberga los partidos que disputa como local el Real Sporting de Gijón y tiene una capacidad para 30 000 espectadores. Su nombre hace referencia a un gran molino hidráulico que se erigía en las inmediaciones de su localización,3 aunque no se conoce con exactitud la fecha en que fue construido; la primera reseña de un partido en El Molinón aparece en el diario local El Comercio el 20 de mayo de 1908, lo que lo convierte en el estadio más antiguo de España.
