30 Things to do in Cape Town, South Africa Travel Guide Video Transcript:

Today we’re taking you around one of our favourite cities: Cape Town, South Africa.

We first visited Cape Town in 2015 as the final stop on a monthlong trip across South Africa. However, by the time we arrived, we only had a couple of days to spare and the weather was less than ideal, so we didn’t get to see very much.

We knew we had to return to do the city justice and also film a proper Cape Town travel guide for you guys. This time around, we gave ourselves a full week to spare.

Our days were packed with sightseeing, and with visits to restaurants, chocolate shops, wineries and gin distilleries, so without further delay, let us show you 30 things do in Cape Town, South Africa.

And that’s a wrap for our week in Cape Town, South Africa. We hope you enjoyed following along and that this guide gave you a few ideas of things to see, do and eat in Cape Town. As always, if you have any other suggestions for fellow travellers, feel free to share those in the comments below. In the meantime, wishing you happy travels and see you next time!

This is part of our Travel in South Africa video series showcasing South African food, South African culture and South African cuisine.

Bloemfontein fountain of flowers or blooming fountain; also known as Bloem) is the capital city of the province of Free State of South Africa; and, as the judicial capital of the nation, one of South Africa's three national capitals (the other two being Cape Town, the legislative capital, and Pretoria, the administrative capital) and is the seventh largest city in South Africa.

The Karoo of South Africa

This video is about the Karoo of South Africa. The Karoo is a vast semi-arid region of central and southern South Africa, roughly twice the size of France. It covers 45% of South Africa itself and was traditionally exploited by low-intensity sheep farming. Today, expansive game reserves are returning some of the land to its pre-European condition and stocking it with indigenous wildlife. The Karoo is a tough landscape with hardy rural communities pitted against the harsh conditions of the near-desert environment. The geology of the Karoo is famous for its expansive, flat-lying outcrops of Permian and Early Triassic sediments. These rocks are host to some of the world's best fossil reptiles representing the early evolution of land animals.

Tshokwane Picnic Site - Kruger National Park

Tshokwane Picnic Site was also recently revamped and is a delight for the travelers between Satara and Skukuza camps on the (H1-2 & H1-3 main road). Stevenson-Hamilton set up Tshokwane as a ranger's post in 1928 he used this camp to explore the northern areas of the old Sabi Reserve. Tshokwane was the name of an old Shangaan chief who lived there until his death in 1915. He had and shared a lot of information about the tribal history of the area and Stevenson-Hamilton with stories about Swazi and Zulu raids into the area 50 plus years before Hamilton started to protect the area.

Breakfast in South Africa at Company's Garden Restaurant in Cape Town travel food video transcript:

Well good morning from Cape Town. We are up bright and early for breakfast and we decided let's go out for breakfast today instead of eating at the AirBNB. We're staying right across from The Company's Garden and we were walking through the other day and we saw that they have a nice little coffee shop slash restaurant slash teahouse. They open at six in the morning so we figured let's eat there today.

Well, first things first. Tea because it is freezing cold outside. It is mid-autumn. Mid autumn I think right?

Yeah, anyways it so chilly in the morning. Technically it is late May here but this would be their late Autumn maybe early starting into winter.

I can see my breath in the air this morning. Well, the thing is the temperature by like say late morning or mid-afternoon is hot.

Like it is in the mid 20s. Oh. But in the morning it is cold. In the morning tea is good.

Oh, and I'm having Rooibos. Look at that. A beautiful cup of red tea. That really is beautiful. And you know what?

I just drink my tea plain. They've brought me a lovely tray with milk and I don't need it.

And I have to say Rooibos is on my Dad's favorite teas. Mmmhmm.

I think he discovered it maybe like maybe 5 to 10 years ago. Something like that and we always have Rooibos tea. Always. Now in the house. Always. Whenever I go home it is like one of the teas that is available.

And look. A little cookie. This looks like the rusks. The hard bread that they sell here. Mmm.

It is kind of like a biscotti. I think that is the closest thing I can compare it to. But yeah, this is really nice. So I'm just going to dip it in my tea. Because that is how we roll here.

Actually it is a cappuccino art. I got a cappuccino. Cappuccino.

No Koeksisters today.

That is a traditional pastry slash dessert type. Yeah, but we just asked for another recommendation and we're getting a Milk Tart.

This is the full English or the complete breakfast or whatever you want to call it here.

Well, give us the tour then. This thing is massive. Like this plate. Look at this. It is more like a platter.

It is a platter. It is a double hand platter. Double hand platter. Oh man.

So over here we've got what appears to be some fried mushrooms. I love mushrooms We have a hashbrown. We have a grilled tomato, we have toast. We have bacon and that will please any Canadian guy.

And over here we have like a thin. A long thin sausage and then we have two eggs well done. because nothing grosses me out more than runny eggs.

Okay, so for my breakfast I ordered eggs benedict with salmon.

But because I'm sharing with Sam I would normally order my eggs runny but he was like no please. We compromised. We compromised with medium.

I get to try Sam's breakfast. Yeah, and something I you know would be cool to find out is if you lived or stayed in South Africa for a while, or you're from here, what is something you would typically have for breakfast?

Because you know we're this is what we're eating today but it would be great to find out what are some other different types of foods.

Alright, so it is that time again. Time for price point. So that was 305 Rand which was $22 US dollars and that included 3 drinks, 2 massive mains, a dessert. So full, satisfied and now we're going to go relax and play some chess.

This is part of our Travel in South Africa video series showcasing South African food, South African culture and South African cuisine.

Kruger Short trip in the North with amazing Wildlife sightings

Please leave a comment if we misidentified any animals in this video.

We once again left Olifants rest camp as early as possible in search of the lions that we heard throughout the night. We were greeted by an absolutely stunning sunrise just outside the camp and had our morning coffee at the N'wamanzi lookout point.

We took the S39 towards the Timbavati picnic site, and this road proved to be booming with birds. We took it very slowly and were pleasantly surprised around every corner. We wanted to make a nice breakfast at the Timbavati Picnic site, but it was extremely busy with no open tables, so we had yogurt and fruit to go. At least we could make a nice lunch at the Tshokwane Picnic site.

From Lower Sabie, we had two leopard sightings. The first sighting was in the perfect afternoon light, so we calculated the time we could spend there based on the distance to the gate, as we wanted to spend all the time we could at this sighting. We did not take into consideration that we would have another leopard sighting just before the gate. So we could not spend a lot of time at the second sighting.

We were almost late to leave the gate.

DRIVING from JOHANNESBURG to CAPE TOWN *4 Day Road Trip Adventure*

Watch our amazing 4 Day Road Trip Adventure from O.R. Tambo Airport in JOHANNESBURG to Gordon's Bay in CAPE TOWN.

DAY ONE
DAY 1 of our JOHANNESBURG to CAPE TOWN road trip adventure started at ORT. Int Airport in Johannesburg. We drove 425km to the city of Bloemfontein in the Free State province where we spent the night in a lodge just outside the city.We were kept company by some ducks, antelope and witnessed the most BREATHTAKING AFRICAN SUNSET. The beginning of our road trip was on Johannesburg's excellent highways to exit the city. Highway scenery to Bloemfontein was mainly beautiful Golden African Savannah eco-systems with farms in between. The Closer we got to Bloemfontein the scenery changed to a bushveld type ecosystem with a few small mountains called KOPPIES.

DAY TWO
DAY 2 of our JOHANNESBURG to CAPE TOWN road trip adventure started with a bush walk. We then drove 640km to colonial style accommodation in the KAROO SEMI-DESERT, which was 95km outside Beaufort West. During the drive the scenery changed from Savannah/Bushveld to the rugged Karoo semi-desert region. The Karoo area recently had its first decent rains in 8 years and rivers were flowing again. We had a wonderful evening in great self catering accommodation under STARRY SKIES.

DAY THREE
DAY 3 of our JOHANNESBURG to CAPE TOWN road trip adventure we decided to stay the day and explore the spectacular moonscape scenery of the KAROO SEMI-DESERT. We saw interesting landscapes, plants and animals including a Bat Eared Fox, Lizards and a snake. We ended the day off with a BONFIRE and witnessed a SPECTACULAR DESERT SUNSET.

DAY FOUR
DAY 4 of our JOHANNESBURG to CAPE TOWN road trip adventure we drove 483km to our destination in Gordons Bay in CAPE TOWN. Countryside scenery changed from the rugged Karoo Semi-Desert to the Fynbos eco-region of the Western Cape. The scenery was magnificent as we entered the CAPE FOLD MOUNTAINS and the CAPE WINELANDS. We were greeted with a beautiful sunset over the sea when we arrived in Gordons Bay CAPE TOWN.

THANK YOU FOR JOINING US ON OUR ROAD TRIP ADVENTURE. WE HAD FUN AND HOPE YOU DID TOO.
