Sants in 5 minutes - Barcelona District to District

Discover the Sants neighbourhood in 5 minutes.

We want to show you Barcelona neighbourhood by neighbourhood, so we sent Asier Suescun to speak with the residents. Local people and immigrants that live in the district will tell you all the information and reasons you need to come to get to know the area and live there.

Sants is a family district with lots of life and plenty of shops. It's most important roadway is Carrer de Sants, which some say is the longest highstreet in Europe (1.35 miles), but that title is more likely owned by Piotrkowska Street in Poland (3.04 miles).

It's also said this is the best connected district of Barcelona in terms of transport because it has Sants Station – the main train station of Catalonia and second in Spain. It also has Metros, buses and local rail.

Plaça d'Espanya is one of the entryways into the district where you'll find Las Arenas, an old bullfighting ring turned into a shopping centre. It has a rooftop terrace with 360º panoramic views over Barcelona.

The neighbourhood has many squares, local life, markets, everyday local shops and the city's large natural green area – Montjuïc. On its slopes and peaks you'll find lots of parks to stroll, sports installations that hosted the 1992 Olympic Games and Montjuïc Castle. It's now used for celebrations, open-air cinemas and other cultural activities but back in the day it was typically used as a political prison and execution ground.

We show you a tailor-made map which will show you the points of interest around the neighbourhood so you don't get lost and enjoy it just as if you were one more local.

What do you think? Are you already here? Would you add something else? Leave a comment.

Before You Go To BARCELONA, Watch This

Before You Go To BARCELONA, Watch This. I’m Rok and I’ve spent last 8 years travelling around Europe as a tour guide. In this video I want to share with you my Barcelona Travel Tips that will make your travel to capital of Catalonia, Spain much easier. You will learn what to expect from Barcelona. Then I will quickly cover most important events in Barcelona's history. Next I will explain what is the best way to buy tickets for main attractions. I will also talk about safety and language. Next I will cover where would be the best hotel location for exploring the city. I will also cover Barcelona public transport and how to get around the city. And lastly I will give you practical tips and ideas that might help you if you visit Barcelona.

Barcelona is second biggest city in Spain and it's also a capital of Catalonia. They have their own language called Catalan and that means that people of Barcelona are actually bilingual they speak Spanish and Catalan. Besides these two official languages a lot of people also speak English and French.

Barcelona is one of the world's leading tourist economic and cultural centres it is considered to be among the top 5 European cities, attracting more than 30 million visitors.
When visiting famous landmarks it's the best to be prepared for some waiting time. Barcelona is considered to be safe but despite obvious City police presence everywhere pickpockets are the main safety issue in Barcelona.

When looking for hotel or other accommodation in Barcelona there are two main areas I would recommend. You should definitely look for a room close to Barceloneta Beach or in the Gothic quarter famous for narrow winding streets, many restaurants & coffee places, all kind of shops galleries museums and famous La Rambla Street.

Barcelona is considered to be a big city its main attractions are spread around the city so you will need to use some sort of public transport. Barcelona's public transport is considered to be safe good and reliable. From Barcelona Airport you already have several options how to get to the city centre which is 14 kilometers or about 9 miles away.

In the last part I will give you plenty of useful tips and ideas, so check out the video.

????Gardens of the Rambla de Sants????

The gardens of the Rambla de Sants are few gardens high located in the district of Sants in Barcelona ( Spain ). They are located on the Rambla de Sants —also known as «Cajon de Sants», due to the cement structure—, on the train and metro tracks ( line 1 ) parallel to Calle de Antoni de Capmany. Work of Ana Molino and Sergi Godia , were inaugurated on 20 August 2016.
The gardens cover mostly with native plantations ( vines , rose bushes , grapefruits , pomegranates , thyme ) the 760 meters long of the boulevard (about 6 hectares), which also consists of children's play areas, a bar and a library.

The coverage of the train tracks was an old neighborhood complaint. In 2012, they were covered with a drawer that isolated them from the environment, but still hindered neighborhood traffic; With this second phase of landscaping carried out in 2016, the old project demanded by the neighbors has been completed - although the coverage was not the original idea, but the burial. The name of Rambla de Sants was also chosen by the neighbors in a consultative process. Considered as the «first aerial promenade of Barcelona», the gardens are located at a height of between 6 and 14 meters above street level. This has generated some criticism for its proximity to some of the surrounding buildings, whose neighbors have reported the loss of their privacy.
The gardens have been designed with sustainability criteria, with LED lighting, photovoltaic energy and groundwater irrigation. For the vegetation, autochthonous species have been chosen preferably, which are signposted with signs providing a botanical tour. In the final part of the route, on the border with Hospitalet, a «didactic garden» has been arranged that shows what the area was like in the 18th century .

????Industrial Spain Park????

The Industrial Spain Park (in Catalan , Parc de l'Espanya Industrial ) is located between the neighborhoods of Sants and Hostafrancs , in the Sants-Montjuïc district of the city of Barcelona ( Spain ), next to the railway station from Barcelona-Sants .

It was built in 1985 by the architects Luis Peña Ganchegui , Francesc Rius i Camps , Antón Pagola and Monserrat Ruiz , on the land vacated by La España Industrial (also known as the Vapor Nou de Sants ), an old textile factory founded in 1847 by the Muntadas family, and who in 1972 moved to Mollet del Vallès . The year of its construction it received the FAD Prize for Architecture and Interior Design. The park was thoroughly renovated in 2009.

????Rambla de Badal????

The Rambla de Badal is a street in the Sants district of Barcelona opened in 1885 by the Badal brothers according to an urbanization plan for the area between the train track and the Bordeta road (in the La Bordeta district). Later, in 1914, Barcelona City Council promoted the construction of the section of street between the train track and the Sants road to the square known as Plaça de Víctor Balaguer, projecting an 18-meter street. wide with a row of trees on each side. Finally, in 1970, the street was widened to accommodate the first roundabout, an underground section that was intended to facilitate the mobility of vehicles.

Walking in Barcelona: Parc del Turó, Spain ????????, 4K, summer, nature walk, tourism

Walking in Parc del Turó, Barcelona, Spain ????????, 4K, summer, nature walk, tourism
A space that was formerly home to an amusement park is now a secluded park dedicated to music and poetry. Turó Park, inaugurated in 1934, still conserves many of its original trees, a pond covered with lily pads that bloom in the spring and a collection of sculptures that pay homage to musicians and poets from the period.

Why visit Turó Park?
Turó Park, which takes its name from the amusement park that occupied the site until 1929, is one of Barcelona’s most emblematic green spaces. The park, designed by Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí and dedicated to the poet Eduard Marquina, is a large and elegant garden, with a hundred-year-old carob tree, laurels, magnolias, poplars, palm trees, holm oaks and a pond surrounded by trees.
Another notable feature is the sculptures located throughout the park. In fact, there are two routes to discover the park’s secrets. If you follow the botanic route, you can observe in more detail all the trees, bushes, plants and flowers that make up the park’s rich plant life, whereas the poetic route takes you from sculpture to sculpture. The most significant ones include the one dedicated to the cellist Pau Casals, the Josep Clarà sculpture in honour of the tenor Francesc Viñas and, in the meadow La ben plantada, by Eloïsa Cerdan, a piece in bronze in homage to the writer Eugeni d’Ors.

The Joan Miró Park (in Catalan , Parc de Joan Miró ) is located in the Ensanche de Barcelona , near the Plaza de España , from which it is separated by the Plaza de Toros de las Arenas - now converted into a shopping center. It was formerly known as Parque del Matadero (in Catalan , Parc de l'Escorxador ), because the old Municipal Slaughterhouse was located on its grounds. ????Mercat d'Hostafrancs????

The Hostafrancs Market is a municipal market in Barcelona located in the Hostafrancs district. Work of the architect Antoni Rovira i Trias, it was inaugurated in 1888 and has undergone several reforms throughout its history. In addition to the market, there is a shop (Abacus) on the 2nd floor and a supermarket (Opencor). It has an area of 976.36 m2. It is a work of Barcelona protected as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest.

The Hostafrancs market is a detached building located between Creu Coberta, Hostafrancs de Sió and Vilardell streets. It consists of three naves, the widest and tallest central, with a double-sloped roof each. The building has a stone base where the iron columns that support a beam are supported. Between the columns there is an iron railing and the closure is made by means of metal plates. The beam is supported by pieces of wrought iron that act as corbels and, on the columns, with cast iron corbels with plant decoration. While in the side naves this beam supports the roof, in the central nave there is an iron structure of columns with semicircular arches closed with glass. On this structure there is a beam that holds the roof. Following the slopes of the roofs there are a series of openings that allow the passage of air. At the ends of the roofs are decorative iron shields.

The interior is currently divided into two floors, which prevents natural light from entering the stalls and distorts the view of the original space. On the ground floor, in a wide space without separations, the stops are arranged in streets and a series of cast iron columns support beams that support the weight of the floor of the upper floor. A shop has been located on the first floor. Here a false ceiling follows the triangular shapes of the roofs but without revealing their structure.

The market has a total area of 3,495 m2 and a commercial area of 976 m2.
