The TRUTH about Traveling during OCTOBER/NOVEMBER in SWITZERLAND - Autumn - Watch BEFORE you go!

It is often told that Autumn is the most beautiful season throughout the entire year as nature is appearing in all colors. However, traveling during these weeks in October and November might lead to a disappointment if your trip is not booked carefully. Autumn is no doubt very beautiful and yet so many things can happen the other way you want them to be. In this video I am providing you the most important information that you need to be aware of BEFORE you travel to Switzerland.
Autumn is mostly the time when the hotels go for a break, before they are starting the Winter season. This means that many hotels and restaurants are going to be closed. Thus, reserve quite in advance. On the bright side, you may benefit from cheaper prices. October is often going to be foggy or even rainy. Fog may be good, it add some mystical feeling, but if you want to escape it then go up to some summit and witness a sea of clouds instead. The colorful leaves and golden larches are mostly going to show in the second half of October. Prior to that, you won't really see many colors and you may feel disappointed. Great spots to see the colors of Autumn are in the forests, up in the Swiss Alps where you have plenty of larches, around alpine lakes or at the vineyards. Really wonderful vineyards are at the Lavaux. Be aware that the colors of Autumn (indian Summer) are the most prevalent in the last week of October and first week of November, while for the golden Larches it will start around 1 to 2 weeks earlier. Do not expect the weather to be always sunny, have a plan B in case it will rain. These are the most important things to take into account before you are going for your Autumn in Switzerland trip.

February in Switzerland? Snow, Winter and Culture [Travel Guide]

This FEBRUARY Travel Guide Video will tell you ALL WHAT you NEED to KNOW! February marks the peak of Winter in Switzerland. It’s a great month to travel; in many aspects one of the best times of the year to visit Switzerland! During February, the chances to see snow are very high, certainly up in the Swiss Alps! The mountains and slopes are going to be covered with loads of snow. Even down in the Swiss plains, there are chances to experience snowfall. Enjoy these days as they will not last for very long. The weather is rather dry, it’s very often going to be sunny with a clear blue sky. The views during February are fantastic, especially up in the Swiss Alps. When visiting Zermatt, you will get a high chance to get a clear view over the Matterhorn, something that is not always guaranteed. In general, February is the month to enjoy the panoramas up on the alpine villages of the summits. February marks also a peak season for travellers who visit Switzerland. This mainly affects the Swiss Alps due to the Winter season. Many people from abroad come for their skiing holidays, but the majority will still be locals. February has often the best conditions for skiers but also for sledding! The hotels are often going to be fully booked, thus book months in advance and also be prepared for increased prices. February is rather expensive up in the Swiss Alps but not down in the plains. During February you may also enjoy plenty of seasonal Winter dishes such as crêpe, Raclette, Fondue Chinoise and cheese fondue; the latter being the Swiss national dish. Definitely, February is a great month for foodie travelers! For those who love culture: February is one of the most cultural months of the year! It’s carnival everywhere, each location having their own unique form. Tschäggättä in the mystical Lötschental is one of the most ancient forms of carnival still being very much celebrated or then the largest carnivals of Luzern and Basel marking other cultural highlights in Switzerland. February is also a great month for sunsets, make sure to stay up in the snowy Swiss Alps to enjoy a very colorful environment. Almost all passroads will be closed, you may have to take the car train tunnels that cost but at least will save you some time. Beware they get very busy during the weekends, especially on Sunday evening! All in all, February is a great month to visit Switzerland, surely going to give you many unforgettable memories!

The Matterhorn // The Most Recognizable Mountain in the World

When I was young some of the first mountains I heard about were Everest, K2, and the Matterhorn. I think I recognized the Matterhorn before I knew the name of most my local mountains. I only recently looked into climbing the Matterhorn. Up until a few years ago I thought it’s pointy summit was unobtainable. Crowds, costs and technical skills made the peak seem out of reach. I had heard that long lines up the Hörnli Route could turn a day out into a horrible 20 hour nightmare. People I spoke with who had climbed it claimed that route finding after the Hörnlihütte was impossible without a guide. A guide in Zermatt lectured me with a strong parental tone about the dangers of climbing it’s 4,000ft razor ridge with even a dusting of snow. All these things can be true but in the back of my mind I kept replaying the video I saw of Killian running down from its summit in shorts. So I rolled the dice for a 3rd time and convinced Chase and Aaron to go out there and give it a shot. It was the driest, hottest summer on record in parts of Europe but of course the week before our departure it rained and snowed heavily across Italy and Switzerland. We were certain that once again this summit would be out of reach but decided to give it a go anyway. Our hopes were bolstered by a video posted by Amateur fan @adventurestothemax who climbed the Matterhorn 2 weeks before our arrival in conditions we hoped would be similar.
I mention in the video choices that we made that worked out FOR US. I was referring to the Decision to start late in the morning and to not put on our crampons until further up the mountain. When we got to Zermatt at 12:30am we debated starting late or waiting until the following morning (we even went as far as to get a reservation at the Hornlihut the following day). In the end we decided to start late. Our thinking was that starting late would give the ice time to thaw since the forecast called for warm conditions and sun. We also thought starting late would allow those who started early to clear off the summit and technical sections by the time we arrived at that point. For the most part both those predictions came true and we only encountered about an hour to an hour and a half of delay due to crowding on the route. The snow and ice was relatively soft until 14,000ft and that meant we could go crampon free for most the mountain. Being crampon free resulted in a faster pace. In the end these were decisions that worked well FOR US and it made for an awesome day. For some these choices could result in death or an expensive rescue.
