Zakopane is a town in the extreme south of Poland, in the southern part of the Podhale region at the foot of the Tatra Mountains.
Zakopane is a center of Goral culture and is often referred to as the winter capital of Poland”. It is a popular destination for mountaineering, skiing, and tourism.
Zakopane lies near Poland's border with Slovakia, in a valley between the Tatra Mountains and Gubałówka Hill. It can be reached by train or bus from the province capital, Kraków, about two hours away. Zakopane lies 800–1,000 meters above sea level and centers on the intersection of its Krupówki and Kościuszko Streets.

ZAKOPANE, Poland.
Zakopane is a most popular resort town located in southern Poland, at the base of the Tatras Mountains. It’s a popular departure point for winter sports and summertime mountain climbing and hiking. Kasprowy Wierch and Gubałówka, reachable by cable car and funicular, are nearby ski destinations offering sweeping mountain views. The town is also known for its turn-of-the-20th-century wooden chalets, symbols of Zakopane-style architecture. The earliest documents mentioning Zakopane date to the 17th century, describing a glade called Zakopisko. In 1676 it was a village of 43 inhabitants. In 1818 Zakopane was a small town that was still being developed. There were only 340 homes that held 445 families. The population of Zakopane at that time was 1,805. 934 women and 871 men lived in Zakopane. The first church was built in 1847, by Józef Stolarczyk. Zakopane became a center for the region's mining and metallurgy industries; in the 19th century, it was the largest center for metallurgy in Galicia. It expanded during the 19th century as the climate attracted more inhabitants. By 1889 it had developed from a small village into a climatic health resort. Rail service to Zakopane began October 1, 1899. In the late 1800s Zakopane constructed a road that went to the town of Nowy Targ, and railways that came from Chabówka.Because of easier transportation the population of Zakopane had increased to about 3,000 people by the end of the 1800s.[3] In the 19th century, Krupówki street was just a narrow beaten path that was meant for people to get from the central part of town to the village of Kuźnice. The ski jump on Wielka Krokiew was opened in 1925. The cable car to Kasprowy Wierch was completed in 1936. The funicular connected Zakopane and the top of Gubałówka in 1938. Krupowki street Zakopane Poland - Walking 2023 4K
This street is a symbol of all good and all bad things about that mountain town. Most of the restaurants, pubs, clubs, discotheques and shops in Zakopane are in Krupówki. It is a place that teems with life almost all year round. A place where you can buy oscypki (sheep's cheese, which is a traditional Podhal delicacy) and exclusive clothes from the world's most expensive manufacturers.
Krupówki street is currently about 1100 m long and runs from the intersection with Koscieliska and Nowotarska streets to the intersection with Witkiewicz and Tetmajera streets.

Wreszcie filmik zabierze Cię na Kasprowy Wierch, jedno z najpopularniejszych miejsc turystycznych w kraju. Na szczyt można dotrzeć kolejką linową lub jednym z kilku pięknych szlaków. Oprócz niewiarygodnych widoków można znaleźć restaurację oraz obserwatoria meteorologiczne i astronomiczne. This video is aerial footage of few places from stunning Tatra Mountains in Poland. Below little guide what you can find in this video :-)
So at the beginning you can see magnificent and vertical Mnich (The Monk) with numbers of climbers trying to reach the summit. Then path that goes to Szpiglasowa Przełęcz and from there to Szpiglasowy Wierch with great views around. Next is Dolina 5 Stawów Polskich (The Valley of Five Polish Lakes) with it's crystal clear waters and PTTK Mountain Hut where you can try very tasty Polish traditional food and nice cold beer or mulled wine after long walk. Finally video will take you to Kasprowy Wierch, one of top tourist spots in the country. You can reach summit by cable car or by one of few fine paths. On top except unbelievable views you can find restaurant and meteorological and astronomical observatories. Kasprowy Wierch is also known as one of Poland's main winter ski areas. Tatra National Park is considered by many as the most beautiful part of Poland.

Most Polish travel itineraries start in Warsaw and end in Krakow. However, venturing two hours further south brings you to one of the most beautiful destinations in Europe – Zakopane. The town of Zakopane is located in the Southern Poland, 100km from Krakow and 500km from Warsaw. This place is known as the winter palace of Poland, but the mountains flaunt snow caps all year round, yes, even during summer!
The first impression when visiting Zakopane is the beauty of this land, like a fairy in a fairy tale. Located near the Tatra Mountains between Poland and Slovakia, in addition to awe-inspiring natural landscapes, the old town here is also very attractive with lovely wooden houses surrounded by a view full of trees and flowers. Located in a narrow valley between the Tatra Mountains and the Gubałówka Hill, Zakopane is blessed with numerous streams, valleys and majestic mountains. Zakopane was discovered in the 16th century and once belonged to the Austrian Empire. It was not until later that it returned to Poland and was the ideal summer and winter resort town of many Polish royal dynasties.
Zakopane is a great base for hiking in the area. Most trails are day long hikes; try a full day hike up to a peak, then a return to town to relax at the end of it. Certain trails are very well defined but you'll also find some that aren't that way, so, a good pair of hiking boots is a bare minimum if you want to be comfortable while enjoying blissful views all day.
I learnt that it's a local custom to greet others during the hike, a simple Hello is good enough. Reason for this is to be nice, of course, but also, saying Hello while making eye contact gives our mind a few extra seconds to register a person. This identification and approximate last seen location will be useful info for the search and rescue team incase a solo hiker or even a group goes missing in these mountains...it's a huge expanse of land afterall!
And just like that, all of a sudden, 'getting lost in the woods' doesn't sound all that romantic.
Nonetheless, continuing the romance with Zakopane, the phrase In the lap of nature fits perfectly. Actually, besides the stunning mountain peaks, there are also some stunning mountain lakes here and a hike to see these pristine lakes will always be worth it.
The most famous of them all being Lake Morskie Oko, “Eye of the Sea,” which requires a bus ride to the base of the trail. It’s about a two-hour walk from the drop-off point each way.
It is the largest and fourth deepest lake in the Tatra Mountains and is located deep in the Tatra National Park. The peaks surrounding the lake are about 1,000 meters above the lake’s surface; one of them is Rysy mountain. At 2500 meters, it is the highest peak in the Polish Tatras. This lake is called the Eye of the Sea because the water is always clear and blue like the blue eye in the sky — the eye of the sea. In addition, the name is also derived from an old legend, according to which the lake is connected to the sea through an underground passage.
Gąsienicowa Valley in Tatra National Park is a protected area that is home to some of the best hiking in all of Poland. There are some stunning hikes where you’ll pass unique flora and fauna along the way. The Gąsienicowa Valley is home to several glaciers and waterfalls.

This is a Zakopane Poland in Winter with Heavy Snowfall video. Taken in January 2022, I had planned this trip when it would be a lot of snow. During my trip it had a snowstorm with some places losing their power and thunder cracking all around. Still, there were many people out and walking around in the small town. Zakopane is considered Poland's winter wonderland and it definitely did not disappoint.

Gubałówka is a mountain in the Gubałówka Range (Polish: Pasmo Gubałowskie or Pogórze Gubałowskie), above the Polish town of Zakopane. The mountain is a popular tourist attraction, offering commanding views of the Tatras and Zakopane. In 1938 the Gubałówka Hill funicular connected Zakopane and the top of Gubałówka.
GUBAŁÓWKA ma wysokość od 1120 m na wschodnim końcu do 1129 m na zachodnim końcu. Wznosi się w północno-zachodniej części Zakopanego. Po wschodniej stronie Gubałówki znajduje się miejscowość Ząb, a po zachodniej Gubałówka sąsiaduje z Butorowym Wierchem. U podnóża północnych stoków Gubałówki w dolinie potoku Bystrego położone jest Nowe Bystre. Nazwa Gubałówka pochodzi od znajdującej się na niej polany Gubałówka, tej zaś od nazwiska Gubała. Testament Jędrzeja Gadowskiego spisanego dnia 1 maja 1692 roku podaje pierwszą nazwę tego wzniesienia jako Antgua. Na Gubałówkę prowadzi kolej linowo-terenowa z Zakopanego wybudowana w 1938 roku, długości 1298 m oraz różnicy wysokości ok. 300 m., zmodernizowana w 2001 roku. Góra jest popularna wśród turystów odwiedzających Zakopane. Z jej grzbietu roztacza się panorama całych polskich Tatr i Zakopanego oraz Podhala, Pienin, Gorców i Beskidu Żywieckiego wraz z ich słowacką częścią. Z Gubałówki prowadzi spacerowy Szlak Papieski na Butorowy Wierch 1160 m, z którego można zjechać kolejką krzesełkową do Kościeliska.

Morskie Oko Zakopane Poland ???????? 4K Winter Walking Tour January 2022
This is a walking tour video of Morskie Oko near Zakopane in Poland, taken in the winter of January 2022. If you are staying around Zakopane you definitely should have some time to make it out to Morskie Oko. It is a small fee for the park and it is about a 2 to 3 hour hike depending on your level and when you go. Winter of course will take a bit more time but there is restrooms along the way and 2 places to get food and drinks. There is some amazing views throughout and especially when you arrive at Morskie Oko you will see a stunning lake surrounded by mountains. In my case the lake was frozen but also very nice.
