Is Australia a Country Or a Continent?

If you've ever wondered whether Australia is a continent or a country, then you're not alone.
Many of us have this question in mind and this is what we will be discussing in this video. Australia is both a country and a continent. It is kind of confusing when you hear it at first but there are valid reasons as to why is it true.
But let us first know where exactly it is located because its geographical location plays a significant role in answering this question!
Where exactly is Australia?
Australia is located in the south-eastern part of the Indian Ocean, south of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The Australian continent consists of the mainland, as well as the island of Tasmania, which lies to the south of mainland Australia across the Bass Strait.
Although Australia is the world's smallest continent, it is also the sixth-largest country in terms of land area. The total land area of Australia is 7,682,300 square kilometres.
It has a population of 25,422,788 and has one of the highest standards of living in the world, with an average annual income per person of $60,000 USD.
What Makes Australia A Continent?
Most people consider there to be seven continents: Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa, Oceania (which includes Australia), and Antarctica.
But it is hard to define a continent. The definition of a continent is a big landmass that is continuous and distinct from other landmasses, separated by water. However, this definition presents some problems. For example, some continents are not separated by ocean like Europe and Asia, North and South America.
Australia is one of the seven continents according to popular opinion. It is surrounded by water on all sides, which fulfils the requirement for being distinct from other landmasses. Therefore, it can be said that Australia meets the criteria for being classified as a continent better than many other continents.
What makes Australia a country?
The Commonwealth of Australia was established in 1901 when the six British colonies on the continent were granted independence from the United Kingdom by the British Parliament. As a dominion of the British Empire, Australia's foreign policy was still dictated by the UK government.
In 1931, however, the UK enacted the Statute of Westminster which granted Australia and other British Empire dominions responsibility over their own foreign policy. Australia implemented this statute in 1942. Since then, Australia has been a sovereign nation with its own independent government. The capital city of Australia is Canberra and its legal system is based on English common law.
Australia is a member of several international organizations including the United Nations (UN), World Trade Organization (WTO), International Monetary Fund (IMF), and World Bank Group. Additionally, it maintains close ties with countries such as New Zealand, Canada, and Papua New Guinea through various bilateral agreements.

Strange Alien like hexagon on Australian coast | Creepy Google maps

Google Maps detectives discover a strange, alien hexagon on the Australian coast

A mother with eagle eyes has discovered a strange, alien structure on Google Maps.

Avid traveler Vanessa Hammond from Queensland found the hexagonal site in search of vacation spots on the west coast of Australia.

The hexagonal terrain on the Australian coast looks like something out of a science fiction flickSource: Google Maps
According to Daily Star, she shared satellite footage of the website available on Google’s digital map service with her Instagram followers last year.

Alongside the post, she wrote: “Someone explains that. I’m scared. I found that today. “

Her clip shows a location somewhere above Cape Range National Park in Western Australia.

When you zoom in, an orange, hexagonal system with intersecting lines appears near the coast.

The futuristic pattern looks like it has been chiseled into the desert landscape.

In response to her post, Vanessa’s 57,000 followers speculated about the bizarre structure.

They suggested that it could be a carving left by prehistoric people, while others emphasized that it resembled a crop circle.

The Australian Outlet 7 News reported on Vanessa’s story and indicated with a wink that it could be “an unknown alien settlement”.

Vanessa shared a handful of responses, including one that was, “I think they were communication towers and the shape has something to do with the way they’re broadcast.”

As it turns out, the explanation is pretty straightforward. The area is actually part of a naval base near the town of Exmouth.

The pictures show Tower Zero, a structure of the Naval Communication Station Harold E. Holt.

The station provides radio communications to US Navy and Royal Australian Navy ships and submarines in the western Pacific Ocean and eastern Indian Ocean.

Tower Zero is one of the largest structures of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

One of Vanessa’s followers wrote, “I was here! Exmouth. Old bins from the Americans and there is even a mini-town with a pool and bowling alley.”
