Taking a glimpse inside NORTH KOREA ???????? (surreal experience)
North Korea is one of the most closed countries on Earth for travel. After 3 years of complete isolation following the pandemic, it is still closed to this day. So, intrigued and hoping to get a glimpse of this fascinating nation, we travelled north from Seoul to the DMZ, the highly contentious border between North and South Korea, to learn more about life in both Korea's and how the two sides fell in to conflict in the first place and how it affects the daily lives of millions of Koreans on both sides to this day. We even managed to take a peek across the border, in to North Korea towards Pyongyang, over the town of Kaesong.

I didn't mention in the video that I am one of the very last Americans to step foot in the country because a few months after I left, all Americans were banned from visiting (which is still in effect today).

The Surreal and Very Real DMZ-Walking Into North Korea (With DMZ Facts/Figures)
My tour of the DMZ was perhaps the most surreal and fascinating part of my month long Asia trip. I took a USO tour through Koridoor Tours to Panmunjom, home of the JSA (Joint Security Area) in the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) at the border of South and North Korea. We were given a briefing by a U.S. military officer who gave us the history of the hostilities between the two countries and warned us not to gesture toward any North Korean soldiers should we see any. We could see the U.N Command soldiers, including some ROK (Republic of Korea) soldiers from South Korea. Some of them put half of their bodies behind the buildings to protect themselves in case they were fired upon from the North. We entered the MAC (Military Armistice Building) Conference Room where the two sides meet when they have talks. In the middle of the room is a conference table-half the table is in South Korea, half in North Korea. Once I passed that halfway point, I was standing in North Korea which I did for about 5 minutes-very surreal. When I got back to my hotel in Seoul, I heard on the radio that North Korea would attack South Korea in a few days and those threats continued for weeks.

Surreal and WEIRD! Travel in NORTH KOREA ???????? [vlog #2]
Part 2 of 3...We toured some more of Pyongyang, got to experience International Children's Day where we had the chance to interact a little more with the North Koreans – plus a slightly strange experience at a farm, an unusual tour edition (visiting a leisure centre) and finishing up at a ‘local’ brewery where it seemed that absolutely no locals drank!

This year I spent 5 days in NORTH KOREA, officially known as The DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) and it was a fascinating and surreal insight into the world’s most isolated country.
We booked onto a tour (the only way tourists can visit North Korea) and set off on a journey that would cover Pyongyang, parts of the countryside and the DMZ border with South Korea.
I'm well aware that we were only shown what they wanted us to see, we had guides with us at all times and weren't allowed to venture off on our own, so these videos are what you'll see as a tourist visiting North Korea. Hopefully I've managed to capture some things you might not have seen before!

Inside North Korea: A Surreal Journey Through a Hidden World With Conor Walsh
Imagine, if you will, stepping into a scene straight from a George Orwell novel.
This was the reality for Conor Walsh, who found himself in North Korea at a time of great national mourning - the death of Kim Jong Il.
As he navigated through the country, Conor was thrust into a world where reality blurred with the bizarre. Factories, supposedly bustling with economic activity, seemed like they were only turned on hours before his arrival.
He wondered of other patrons in the shops he entered were really just actors.
Dining at restaurants that served delectable meals, was acutely contrasted by the widespread famine elsewhere in the country.
The whole thing seemed like a fever dream in an entirely artificially constructed reality.
All in all, it was a valuable experience for understanding propaganda and thought control, a lens which provided him insights into other phenomena going on elsewhere around the world.
