Today i'm flying on one of the world's longest flights (an inaugural too!) and then.. another! I'll be in the sky over 24 hours in the world's best Business Class, the Qatar QSuites. How to spend your FREE Qatar Airways stopover! DOHA, QATAR - prices, transportation, & travel tips
On a recent (pre-COVID) trip to Vietnam, my friends and I saw a deal for a free stay at a 5 star hotel in Doha, Qatar if you fly with Qatar airlines and layover for 12+ hours. I had never been to the Middle East before and have always been so curious about the culture, the futuristic cities of the Arab gulf, and of course the food. I thought, what better time to take advantage of an international trip and backpack to Qatar in luxury. Culture trip to both the Middle East AND East Asia!
The city was futuristic indeed but also eerily quiet and seemingly unpopulated for having a population close to 1 million. We learned that over 80% of the population is actually expatriates coming to work in various sectors of service and labor.
I really wanted to try Qatari food and looked all over for it and searched through google for some answers as to why there weren't any Qatari restaurants. Since most of the population is migrant workers, the food mostly is a blend of those cuisines as well as a ton of American chains (McD's, Subway, Applebees, etc.). Even though there wasn't much Qatari food, you can still find lots of other Arab, Mediterranean, or Central Asian foods mostly at the Souq Waqif, or around Katara village. I encourage you to try all the different culture's foods, but if you aren't an adventurous eater, you'll have many familiar restaurants to choose from :)
We got our free hotel when we saw one of the flight options highlight free 5 star hotel stay. We can make a video about that if ya'll need more help. This is Qatar airway's main page about the promotion (it's kinda confusing but there is a free promotion and one where you need to pay $28, which is still amazing for a 5 star hotel):

I’ll be trying a new first class product on each leg of the journey, so you’ll be able to see the difference between some of the worlds most exclusive luxury aviation products. Now this was of course not cheap, so I’ve included a breakdown of costs along with cheaper alternatives should you have more flexibility than I, and use airmiles.

24hrs in World's Best First Class Flight

Today i'm flying the world's best First Class flights for 24 hours from Singapore to London. This will be over three first class flights, starting in the brand new Starlux A350. After we'll move onto the brand new Emirates A380 first class, which features similar finishing to the famous Gamechanger (yes of course there's a shower onboard!). Lastly we'll finish on Etihad's three room apartment in the sky, known as The Residence. This not only has a living room, but a private ensuite bathroom and bedroom!
As usual I paid for this trip myself, and due to the complexities of the routing, I was unable to use miles to redeem. Therefore three cash tickets ended up costing over $13,000! Full costings shown in the video

FIRST IMPRESSIONS AFTER 24 HOURS IN QATAR (not what you would expect)
An epic first 24 hours with @VisitQatar in today's video!
We didn't anticipate heading back to the airport so soon after getting home from eight months of full-time travel, but once we parked the car and headed into the Salt Lake International Airport it just felt right! After a quick flight to Seattle we boarded our 14 hour flight to Doha, Qatar! Hamad International Airport is one of the biggest and most beautiful airports we have ever seen. Exhausted after our flight, we hopped in our Uber and headed to the St Regis Doha where we checked into the most luxurious hotel room! The next morning we hit the ground running to maximize our time here in Qatar! On our way out to the western coast we stopped to see one of the favorite local pastimes...camel racing! These camels have small robots on their backs instead of jockeys that their owners communicate through. Quite the sight to see! After continuing west we stopped at the epic piece of modern art by Richard Serra called East-West/West-East, consisting of 4 massive pieces of steel embedded into the desert landscape. It's quite an alien sight to behold. We went off-road out to the Arabian Sea, then headed back into the capitol city Doha to explore the markets. Souq Waqif is the largest, traditional Qatari market smack in the middle of the city. We saw falcons, camels, restaurants, clothing and a big golden thumb! We can't wait for our next couple days here in Qatar!
