Greenland - Since 8 years I'm traveling to this magical country. Today quiet and untouched places are becoming more and more rare. On my first visit to Greenland, I was fascinated by the incredible power of nature that can be felt everywhere. But during the last years things have changed. The amount of icebergs is increasing savagely. Glaciers I'm visiting every year are retreating not meters but kilometers a year and the unending amount of ice seems to be endless. There is nothing more beautiful than an iceberg - everyone is unique and the light reflecting from its surface is magical. It's sad how close beauty and decay can be seen in an iceberg. This movie is is an appreciation to the ice - for me the most amazing aggregate state of water.

Behind the scenes
For this short film I travelled to Greenland with my drones several times. Always with the target of a certain region in a certain light situation. The shots from the calving glacier took me 4 days at the Eqi Glacier and over 70 battery charges for only 4 usable shots of a few seconds. It's a very hard intention to film the very right moment on a glacier front of about 6km wide - especially close up. But the hardest thing of flying in Greenland is the fact, that every 2-3 minutes the difference between the magnetic north and the geographic north (which are not the same place - especially so far north) causing a fatal p-gps flight error and the drone is flying away (also the camera's horizon). But at the end every single flight was worth it - filming Icebergs from above is one of the most beautiful things I've ever done. Additionally I used the drone to scout the landing spot and look for polar bears. The best thing for bears and humans is to not meet each other on shore.

75 000 h.p. The Biggest Nuclear Icebreaker

For licensing and collabs:
Our magic LUTs and presets for color grading:

This video was shot in the Arctic Ocean in March 2018. For 7 days our crew passed through the Barents Sea to Karsky around the Novaya Zemlya archipelago on the nuclear icebreaker Yamal - we saw the northern lights and polar bears, watched the ships stuck in the ice being towed, and were very cold.

In the video you can see two Russian icebreakers - “50 Years of Victory” and “Yamal” with a capacity of 75,000 horsepower and a distinctive shark mouth, which appeared on it in 1994 during one of the children's humanitarian programs. According to legend, someone suggested drawing a smiling shark mouth on the nose to make it more fun for children. At present, Russia has the only nuclear-powered icebreaker fleet in the world. They are used to provide wiring ships in the ices of the Northern Sea Route in the freezing ports of the Russian Federation, research expeditions, rescue operations and tourist cruises.

In addition to the extreme weather conditions, the shooting was complicated by the fact that the icebreaker was always in motion. And if the drone was flying over the radar tower, the recording file was damaged.

VR 360° Journey to the heart of a glacier “Into The Deep

Avocado360 (Urs Wyss, Christian Mülhauser)

The Swiss Alps are some of the most beautiful mountains in the world, but they are also one of the most vulnerable to climate change.

The Aletsch Glacier is the largest in the Alps and is located in the canton of Valais. It is about 23 kilometers long and 1.8 kilometers wide, and it has been melting at a rate of 1 meter per year since 2006. This may not seem like much, but over time, it adds up. The glacier has lost about 10% of its volume since 2006, and it is expected to lose another 20% by the end of the century.
The Plaine Morte Glacier is located in the canton of Bern, Switzerland, and is also melting at a rate of 1 meter per year. It has lost about 30% of its volume since 2006 and is expected to lose another 40% by the end of the century.
We go inside the glacier and explore the beauty of nature.

Spring thaw, Greenland 2019

Spring came quite early to South and North Greenland in 2019. April 30 saw +20C or 68F temps, leading to a rapid melt of ice and snow. With the changing climate comes big changes in Greenland, but the beauty remains awe inspiring!

The Glaciers Are Melting – What Does It Mean For Iceland?

Iceland has 269 named glaciers, from the vast ice cap of Vatnajökull with its many tongues and outlets, to the towering, famously volcanic Eyjafjallajökull overlooking the south coast, and the much-admired snow-hooded Snæfellsjökull, perched on the western Snæefellsnes peninsula. They’re studied and monitored by a variety of organisations who funnel their data to the Icelandic Met Office, Veðurstofa.
