If you are looking for a place away from the hustle and bustle of the city,
It is quiet and serene from journey to destination.
and then loads of trees on side which would already give you the
appeal of a forest. Use navigator on your phone, it helps accurately.
But, navigator can't help so well once you have entered the kaccha road.
Best way is to book a car from Durgapur. all the drivers know the route very well. Once you have made your turn from the single lane road to the kaccha road, its all Garh Jungle forest from there on.
One turn takes you to the temple the other one to the Deul park.
At the temple, the priest will guide you through. At the Deul park,
you can stay at the accommodation inside the park(Deul Eco resort). Fooding can be availed only if you are lodging. Outside the park gate, you could buy some snacks and have tea. Inside there are rides and boating facility . The park is not too big but well maintained. Beautiful flowers blooming. a toy train is moving inside the park, few orange tree can seen inside the duel park. You can sit spend some time, look at the lake. Then through the other gate you can go to the Ajay river. Some bathe in the river and some at a distance cooked for their picnic. Here, I preferred to sit and then to lie down on the sand and enjoy the quiet surrounding.

Garh Jungle is place centering a forest, where history and mythology come hand in hand. There are two very old temples inside the forest - Deul Temple and Shyamarupa Temple. It is said that once upon a time there was a Garh (Fort) built by a local king Ichhai Ghosh. In the 11th century Icchai Ghosh was a very powerful king in this area. Another ruler of adjacent kingdom - Lausen attacked Ichhai Ghosh's kingdom and defeated him. The battle was fought on the bank of river Ajoy. Lausen completely destroyed the fort.
Shyamarupa Temple located deep inside the dense forest is said to be 800 years' old. There is a nearby watch tower from where one can have a magnificent view of the forest. Also near to the temple there is 'Medhashram'. According to mythology there was the Ashrama of Rishi Medhas where king Surath visited. Surath started to worship goddess Durga there. This is said to be the first Durga Puja in the world.
Deul temple is an 18th century temple and said to be Ichhai Ghosh's temple. Adjacent to it a park has come up for tourists. Deul Park. There is resort inside the park. In winter the park becomes a very popular picnic spot. Near to Garh Jungle and Deul Park one can visit the bank of River Ajoy. The river bed turns beautiful with the booming Kash Flowers in autumn.
Best way to visit Garh Jungle is to reach Durgpur by train/ bus from Howerah/ Kolakata, and then hire a taxi.

গড় জঙ্গল, দেউল:
পাতাঝরার মরশুম আর শাল পিয়ালের জঙ্গল। অমোঘএক আকর্ষণে আমরা সরস্বতী পূজার ছুটিতে চলে গেলাম পশ্চিম বর্ধমানের গড় জঙ্গল। দুর্গাপুর এক্সপ্রেসওয়ে ধরে দুর্গাপুরের খুব কাছেই এই জঙ্গল। আগের রাত আরুনি স্পিরিচুয়াল আশ্রমে কাটিয়ে পরদিন সকালে লাল মাটির রাস্তা ধরে পৌঁছে গেলাম জঙ্গলে শ্যামরূপা মায়ের মন্দিরে। মন্দিরটি প্রাচীন। ইতিহাস এবং লোকগাথায় এই মন্দিরের উল্লেখ পাওয়া যায়। দেখলাম জঙ্গলের মধ্যে অবস্থিত মহর্ষি মেধসাশ্রম। দেখলাম সেই স্থান যেখানে পৃথিবীর সর্বপ্রথম দুর্গাপূজা হয়েছিল। শ্রীশ্রী চন্ডী রচনা ও প্রচার গড় জঙ্গল থেকেই। ইতিহাসকে দূরে সরিয়ে রেখে যদি কেবল জঙ্গলে ঘুরে বেড়ানোর আনন্দ পেতে,একটা দিন প্রকৃতির সঙ্গে কাটাতে ইচ্ছে করে তাহলে হাতের কাছে সেরা ঠিকানা অবশ্যই গড় জঙ্গল। এই জঙ্গলে প্রকৃতি আর ইতিহাসের সহাবস্থান মনোমুগ্ধকর। ঝরা পাতার মর্মর, তার সাথে জঙ্গলে ঘুরে ঘুরে ইতিহাস কে খুঁজে বের করার আনন্দ আর পথ চলতে চলতে হঠাৎ সাপের সঙ্গে মোলাকাত। সব মিলিয়ে রোমহর্ষক। যে কোনো weekend-এ অবশ্যই একবার ঘুরে আসতে পারেন গড় জঙ্গল থেকে।

According to Markandya Purana in Satya yuga king Surath here in Medhas Munis Ashram performed first Durga Puja in the world.
Fort of Ichai Ghosh was destroyed by Lau Sen in the 11th century. A monument (Deul) of Ichai Ghosh was constructed by his decedents in the 18th century,
Shama Rupa Mandir was established by King of Gour Banga Laxman Sen in the 11th century.

A day tour to Garh Jungle Maharshi Medhashram to visit the ancient temple premises (Garh) where according to Hindu mythology King Surath performed the first Puja (worship) of Devi Durga. Surath established Tridebi's temple in this jungle area, i.e. Temple of Mahakali, Mahasaraswati and Mahalakshmi. Now, along with them Ashram of Medhas Muni, a Temple of Mahakal Bhairab is also present.
Both Garh Jungle and Deul Park are next to each other.
Use navigator on your phone, it helps accurately.
But, navigator can't help so well once you have entered the kaccha road.
Best way is to book a car from Durgapur. all the drivers know the route very well. Once you have made your turn from the single lane road to the kaccha road, its all Garh Jungle forest from there on.
At the temple, the priest will guide you through. At the Deul park,you can stay at the accommodation inside the park(Deul Eco resort).

Kolkata to Garh jungle bike ride | World's first Durga Puja | Deul Park | One day trip from Kolkata
Garh Jungle is an important place in Hindu mythology, especially Shakta. It is located in the Kanksa CD block (near Durgapur) in the Durgapur subdivision of the Paschim Bardhaman district in West Bengal.
Ashram of Medhas Muni was established here.According to Sri Sri Chandi, King Surath meet to Boisya samadhi at Ashram of Medhas. This Ashram was established in Garh Jungle. King Surath and Boisya Samadhi learned Devi Mahatmya from Medhas in this place. Surath organized a durgapuja here in spring time. According to Shri Shri Chandi and Markandeya Purana this Durga puja, which was organized in Garh Jungle,was first Durga puja of the world.
Surath established Tridebi’s temple in this jungle area, i.e. Temple of Mahakali, Mahasaraswati and Mahalakshmi. Now, along with them Ashram of Medhas Muni, a Temple of Mahakal Bhairabis also there.There were 16 temples and only two are present: Shyamarupa Mandir and Shib Mandir.
