A Service of Celebration for Commonwealth Day 2019 LIVE - BBC

Watch the BBC first on iPlayer ???? In the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and other senior members of the Royal Family, Fergal Keane presents live coverage from Westminster Abbey in London of a service of celebration for Commonwealth Day.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the Queen for a Westminster Abbey service to mark Commonwealth Day.
The royals and senior figures from national life marked the 70th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth.

The theme of this year's event was A Connected Commonwealth, with member countries being urged to protect natural resources and the environment.

In her message, the Queen said the Commonwealth vision inspires us to find ways of protecting our planet.

Earlier Prince Harry and Meghan visited the Canadian embassy as part of Commonwealth Day celebrations.
The multicultural, multi-faith event at Westminster Abbey saw performances and readings from representatives from throughout the Commonwealth.

Grammy-winning group, Clean Bandit were the first to perform, followed by performances of North Indian dhol drumming, and a solo by an Australian aboriginal musician on a didgeridoo.

The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke of York also attended the service.

The Prime Minister Theresa May was in the 2,000-strong congregation, as well as Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Scotland, high commissioners, ambassadors, faith leaders, plus more than 800 schoolchildren and young people.

Cold-water swimmer, Lewis Pugh spoke at the ceremony to appeal for greater efforts to restore the health of the oceans.
Earlier, Prince Harry and Meghan kicked off the celebrations at an event at Canada House, to showcase Canadian talent in the UK.

The couple were welcomed to the embassy by Canada's High Commissioner to the UK, Janice Charette.

In her Commonwealth message, the Queen said the Commonwealth vision offers hope, and inspires us to find ways of protecting our planet, and our people.

We are able to look to the future with greater confidence and optimism as a result of the links that we share, and thanks to the networks of co-operation and mutual support to which we contribute, and on which we draw.

With enduring commitment through times of great change, successive generations have demonstrated that whilst the goodwill for which the Commonwealth is renowned may be intangible, its impact is very real.

The Queen famously dedicated herself to the empire, which later became the Commonwealth, on her 21st birthday in 1947.

The then Princess Elizabeth said: I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family, to which we all belong.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Birkenhead HAMILTON Square

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle HAMILTON Square in Birkenhead
Meghan Markle and baby bump make bright appearance in Birkenhead Duke and Duchess of Sussex were inundated with well wishes and special presents during their visit to Birkenhead on Monday, but there was one sweet gift that Prince Harry just couldn't believe! During an engagement at Tomorrow's Women Wirral #MeghanMarkle #PrinceHarry #Birkenhead Pregnant Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are on their first official engagement of 2019. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are heading in Birkenhead, Merseyside, to learn about a number of organisations that support and empower groups within the local community. Meghan and Harry's first stop will be Hamilton Square, where they will view a new sculpture to mark the 100th anniversary of war poet Wilfred Owen's death. I’m having an April baby! Meghan lets slip to well-wishers she is now SIX months pregnant as she stuns in a bold £100 purple dress and £1,000 crimson coat during visit to Birkenhead. The Duchess of Sussex let slip the due date of her baby as she met locals in Birkenhead today. Meghan, 37, revealed that she is six months pregnant with her first child expected in April as she chatted to well-wishers in the northwest town of Birkenhead during her and Prince Harry's first joint engagement of the year. The brief exchange was overheard by ITV's royal editor Chris Ship as Meghan, glowing in a red wrap coat worn over a figure-hugging £107 purple dress from Babaton by Aritizia, met locals in Merseyside with her husband on Monday morning. She paired the vibrant ensemble with a £1,695 Gabriela Hearst leather 'bowling' bag and vertiginous red stilettos and, in a return to her signature style, the Duchess ditched the sleek chignon she's been sporting in recent weeks for a relaxed 'messy' bun as she and Harry charmed the locals who had gathered to see them. Meghan's £1,085 red coat, believed to be a new addition to her wardrobe, is from Canadian brand Sentaler and the duchess has worn the brown version previously in Sandringham. The couple, who are expecting their first baby in the spring, have travelled to Merseyside from London to visit organisations that support and empower groups within the community.Their first stop was Birkenhead's Hamilton Square to view a new sculpture that was erected in November to mark the 100th anniversary of war poet Wilfred Owen's death. The statue, which is named after one of Owen's works, Futility, is cast in bronze and represents an exhausted First World War soldier. After unveiling a plaque to mark the visit, Harry and Meghan met local veterans and members of the Birkenhead Institute Old Boys, which Owen belonged to, and played a part in the creation of the tribute. The Duke and Duchess then undertook a royal walkabout amongst the large crowds, many of whom had been queuing for hours to catch a glimpse of the royal couple. Prince Harry gave four year old Eliza Morris a hug after seeing her sign 'Gingers Unite - I love you Harry' on a walkabout today. He said, 'I love this! Do you love your hair? the sign is amazing!' Harry stopped as he and Meghan spent more than 45 minutes chatting to the crowds. Fans handed Meghan bouquets of flowers, while she looked particularly delighted with the gift of handmade paper flowers from a young fan from the nearby Fun Train Day Nursery. The couple will experience four 'good news stories' in the Wirral town after accepting an invitation from local MP Frank Field, according to the Liverpool Echo. Mr Field, who has served Birkenhead since 1979, wrote to the couple himself and said he was 'absolutely thrilled' when they accepted his offer. He told the newspaper: 'Although there are hundreds of projects I'd like the royal couple to see, the groups they will be meeting next week are characteristic of so much of the good work going on in Birkenhead. 'They will be seeing a stunning World War I memorial that sets new standards for sculpture. They will also launch new projects that are at the cutting edge of fighting poverty, draw even greater attention to the inspirational work being done by Tomorrow's Women Wirral, and witness the impact The Hive is having on the lives of so many young people in Wirral.' Mr Field said the visit to Tomorrow's Women will be of great interest to Meghan in particular with her focus on women's issues and countering modern slavery. He added: 'She will be talking to women there on these issues as well as how they successfully make the transition back from prison to society.' The mother-to-be stepped out in London last week and the couple will also make an appearance on Wednesday to watch Cirque du Soleil's TOTEM at the Royal Albert Hall, as part of a fundraising campaign for Harry's charity Sentebale. It comes as the couple continue to make renovations on their new home, Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, ahead of the birth of their first child.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle happy birthday sing song for little Megan Birkenhead Hamilton Square

Prince Harry and #MeghanMarkle happy birthday sing song for little Megan at #Birkenhead #HamiltonSquare How sweet! Prince Harry sings Happy Birthday for Megan O’Carroll 9th birthday, who was waiting with classmate Harry Edwards. Meghan received plenty of flowers from well-wishers in Birkenhead today ???? And she certainly looked blooming lovely! Harry and Meghan were visiting Birkenhead to see local organisations that support and empower groups within the community, including Tomorrow's Women Wirral and Hive Wirral Youth Zone. During the walkabout at Hamilton Square, Meghan also revealed that she is 6 months pregnant and is due in April. Harry and Meghan also don’t know the gender of the baby. Harry and Meghan received the warmest welcome from local students in Birkenhead, England, for their first joint engagement of 2019. Happy Birthday that was happening! Happy Birthday Megan!” says Meghan! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex met little Megan O’Carroll of St Werburgh’s Catholic Primary School in Birkenhead, who turned nine today. Meghan was amused to hear she was with her classmate Harry Edwards! The big news is that Meghan has told wellwishers she is SIX months pregnant, so baby Sussex is due “end of April, beginning of May,” in her words.. Meghan Markle is talking royal baby! During her outing alongside Prince Harry in the town of Berkenhead on Monday, the pregnant Duchess of Sussex was flooded with questions about the couple’s first child. In addition to revealing that she’s due in late April, she also responded to a young fan who asked whether she was having a boy or a girl. Kitty Dudley, 9, from St Anne’s Primary School in nearby Rockferry, said, “Meghan came up to me and asked me how old I was and where I went to school. I could see her bump and I asked if she was having a boy or a girl and she said, ‘We don’t know whether it’s a boy or girl, we are keeping it as a surprise.’ Megan Redford, 7, then asked Meghan about potential baby names, saying: “She asked me if I was called Meg or Meghan because she said her friends call her Meg and mine do as well. “I asked her whether she would call her baby Amy if she has a girl and she said, ‘That’s a really pretty name, I like it, we’ll have to think about it.’ Back in October, Harry hinted that he wanted his first child to be a girl. During the couple’s royal tour in Sydney, a fan called out to the prince that she hoped the baby “is a girl,” and Harry immediately responded, “So do I!” It was back to work for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as the couple carried out their first joint engagement of 2019 on Monday morning. Following their festive break in Sandringham, the Duke and Duchess looked happy and refreshed as they travelled up north to Birkenhead in Merseyside. The purpose of their trip was to visit local organisations that support and empower groups within the community, including Tomorrow's Women Wirral and Hive Wirral Youth Zone.

Meghan, who is due in the spring, looked absolutely radiant in bright colours. She dressed her baby bump in a fitted, purple dress by Babaton for ARITZIA and wrapped up with a red coat by Sentaler. Harry and Meghan began their visit at Hamilton Square, where crowds of royal fans had gathered. The couple took part in a short walkabout, greeting locals and shaking hands with dozens of people. A closer look at Meghan's vibrant outfit, which included a Gabriela Hearst tote. We love her Stuart Weitzman shoes! The Duchess appeared to be paying tribute to Tomorrow's Women Wirral, whose colours are pinky red and purple. Meghan's look also called to mind Princess Diana, who liked to combine red and purple on occasion. On the left, the People's Princess is pictured at the Taj Mahal in India, while on the right, Diana is on a visit to Bangkok. Harry and Meghan were welcomed by Frank Field, Birkenhead's MP, who said he had invited the couple to his constituency and that the planned day reflected the royals' interests and allowed them to get a real feel for the area's people. In Hamilton Square, the royals viewed a sculpture that was erected in November to mark the 100th anniversary of Wilfred Owen's death. Named after one of the poet's poems, Futility, the statue is cast in bronze and represents an exhausted World War One solider. Harry and Meghan unveiled a plaque to mark the visit, before meeting local veterans and members of the Birkenhead Institute Old Boys, of which Wilfred Owen belonged to. During the walkabout, Meghan gave an update about her royal baby! She told fans that she is due at the end of April or beginning of May. One little girl, Kitty Dudley, aged nine from St Anne's Catholic Primary School, also said after meeting the couple: I asked her if she was having a girl or a boy and she said she didn't know.
