WESTERN SAHARA to MAURITANIA: from Dakhla to the most dangerous border of the world // EPS.2

Three months after we drove the motorcycles to Dakhla, we continued our journey in the desert of Morocco/Western Sahara. We had heard many nightmare stories about the border of Mauritania ahead (it was supposed to be the most dangerous border in the world with a lawless No Man's land with landmines and small sandy tracks). But our first obstacle when returning to Dakhla was to find a motorcycle garage for changing the tires of our bikes before we could enjoy the oasis of Dakhla for Kitesurfing. A little break before we really started our adventure ride south through the desert on the westcoast of Africa. On the way through Morocco/ Western Sahara we came across many checkpoints, beautiful dunes and amazing landscapes before we finally hit the border of Mauritania...

// Check out my friends from Dakhla Wind Paradise if you plan to visit Dakhla for desert excursions or kitesurfing.

// Welcome to the journey! I am Lea, a journalist and author and I want to take you with me on a motorcycle overloading adventure to all the wild and beautiful places in the world!

//Join the first stage of my trip around Africa along the coast of Westafrica through 12 countries: Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin.

// I circumnavigated the world solo from 2016-2017 and now I am going to all other places I have not seen yet. Now on the channel: my motorcycle trip around africa/ the first stage of the journey through westafrica.

Real Talk:
Despite our attempt at keeping our Morocco Travel Documentary as authentic as possible, you are still watching a highlight reel. When editing, we naturally tend to choose the most exciting videos. What you don’t see are the hours spent driving through less spectacular landscapes or some of the unpleasant challenges we faced.

Did we like everything about Morocco?
Far from it. As mentioned in the video, the huge amount of trash definitely dampened our experience. Additionally, we were surprised by the sheer number of begging children. During our trip, we counted a minimum of 500 children asking us for money or sweets. While Morocco undoubtedly has to combat poverty, this behavior often seemed less dictated by need and more by opportunity. Stopping and giving is an individual choice, of course, but when we didn’t we were regularly flipped off, kicked after, or hurled insults at.
In general, though, we perceived most Moroccans as extremely friendly and helpful. The best example is the three local men who selflessly helped us to change our ruptured tire. We cannot thank them enough.

Full Disclosure:
This trip was entirely self-funded. However, we did enjoy a two-night complimentary stay at La Sultana Oualidia and a two-night complimentary stay at La Sultana Marrakech.

How Safe Is Mauritania for Travel?

Full safety review:

Mauritania is a country located in northwest Africa, sharing its borders with Algeria, Senegal, and Mali, along with the disputed territory of Western Sahara.

Mauritania is a country whose main attractions are its desert and its ocean.

It is protected by UNESCO.

If you’re interested in seeing the stunning desert scenery, Mauritania is the place for you.

Overall generally speaking, Mauritania isn’t safe at all for tourists. There have been reports of Westerners being kidnapped and executed while violent crime is on the increase. Exercise maximum possible vigilance.

The Capital Of Western Sahara is A Mordern Moroccan City ????????

Western Sahara as we see Today is the world's biggest disputed zone but it's almost 90% under the control of Morocco and you can move freely through the coastal highway with your Morocoon Visa and it's very safe but there are regions in the East of Western Sahara which are in Control of the Polizario group But it's Capital Dakhla is very mordern and with lot of Tourism.

Southern Morocco & Western Sahara

It was finally time on my trip to head south so I got the bus to first Tiznit then onwards to the coast at Sidi Ifni and finally into Western Sahara, checkout the video for what happened.

The friendly Fisherman of the Western Sahara - Cycling around the World | Dreamsontracks

While cycling through the Sahara in Morocco/Western Sahara, we slept in the hut of some fishermen, and received unprecedented hospitality. While cycling through the Sahara, on empty roads, with a lot of sand and wind, sometimes it was hard to find a place for camping or for sleeping, because it's a bit of a risky area, so camping was not always allowed. We asked at an army hut, and they showed us a fisherman hut. The fishermen came back and we had tea and breakfast together. What a wonderful experience in the biggest sand desert in the world.
