Driving the 4x4 sand road to Deadvlei/Sossusvlei in Namibia (all 4km)

The dead camel thorn trees at the white clay pan Deadvlei surrounded by high sand dunes is one of the greatest sights in Namibia. Deadvlei, and the nearby salt pan Sossusvlei, are located in the Namib-Naukluft Park. To reach Deadvlei, you drive a 60km sealed road from Sesriem until you reach a car park. That's as far you can get with a 4x2 car, but to continue further on to the Deadvlei parking, you need a 4x4 vehicle. The tar road ends at the 4x2 parking and from there you will have to drive 4km on a sand road. This video covers the full 4km of sand driving between the two parkings.

Last 5km to SOSSUSVLEI | Namibia | 4x4 ONLY!!!

Last 5km to SOSSUSVLEI | Namibia | 4x4 ONLY!!!

The last 5km 4x4 only drive from Sesriem to Sossusvlei in Namibia. The road ends at the Deadvlei car park, with Sossusvlei a few kilometres after that.

Remember to engage 4x4 and deflate your tyres for an exciting bit of 4x4 off-road driving. But beware this piece of scenic road takes many casualties especially during the hot hours of the day when the desert sand turns into water.

There is a shuttle available between this point and the Deadvlei car park. It is operated by the Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR) and can be booked at the NWR Sesriem office. Currently the price is N$180 pp for a return trip #5410Africa #travel #Namibia

Sossusvlei Namibia ???????? Desert Dunes of the Namib

Sossusvlei Namibia overland road trip. We spent 2 days and some wonderful hours exploring the red dunes of the Namib desert around Sossusvlei and the incredible Deadvlei, with it's 800 year old camelthorn trees.

Entrance is at the Sesriem gate and while there is camping and accommodation available within the park, we opted to stay in a self catering chalet at Desert Quiver Camp, which is around 5km from the entrance gate.

It was a huge privilege to witness water in Sossusvlei, something that only happens very occasionally when good rains inland bring water down the Tsauchab River into the desert, where the massive red dunes of the Namib stop it's flow to the sea.

Sossusvlei is one of Namibia's most popular tourist attractions and while there were a few other visitors, it was uncrowded, unlike our past visits in years gone by, when getting a photo of Deadvlei without people was a challenge. It's well worth going if you can, before the crowds start to make their way there again.

THE BEST ROADTRIP DESTINATION IN THE WORLD, NAMIBIA | Ft. Deadvlei, Sossusvlei & Dune 45

Namibia is one of the worlds best road trip destinations. Not for the feint of heart, this beautiful country boast some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. So if you like to camp and explore this country is wonderland!

In 2018 we departed for Namibia on a 10 days express road trip to all the top destinations. Our Hitlist included Deadvlei, Sossusvlei dune 45 to name a few.

We departed Windhoek, the capital, in our rented camping vehicle, into the desert, heading towards Sossusvlei and the final destination of the skeleton coast. We stopped in a few small spots along the way, but we unfortunately lost the footage. However we highly recommend Camp Gecko

One of the highlights of the trip, if not our lives was waking up for sunset and venturing up dune 45 to take in the amazing scenes that Sossusvlei has to offer. Dune 45 is very popular because it is easy to get to and climb and offers an amazing panoramic views of the giant dunes. The best place to camp to get the timing right for sunrise on dune 45 is at Sossisvlei camp site. You get exclusive early access to enter the park and can start your drive before the sun starts to rise. Dune 45 is special totally worth the mission to be onto of it for sunrise.

Sossusvlei is unmissable in general. The camp site is really nice and boasts great facilities. So if you want to visit Deadvlei and Dune 45, the Sossusvlei camp site is where you need to stay. Don’t get me wrong, the whole general Sossisvlei area is nice, but the official camp site provides you with best possible position to beat the crowds and get prime spots to see Deadvlei and Dune 45.

Now, probably the reason you are watching this video, Deadvlei. This is one of the most beautiful places on earth. The red sand, juxtaposed against the striker blue sky alone is something worth seeing. But enduring the sun to explore the dunes at Deadvlei is an unmissable bucket list activity. Standing ontop of the dunes, overlooking the iconic deadvlei, dead trees and all is special. Everyone needs to do it.

We hope that you enjoy our throw back vlog! More recent stuff coming soon!

Driving the 4x4 Sand Track to Deadvlei/Sossusvlei, Namibia (with Tips)

Deadvlei and Sossusvlei, in Namibia, are picturesque pans located deep in Namib-Naukluft national park. The road to these pans is paved up until the last 4 kilometers which then becomes a deep sand track. Visitors can drive this track themselves, but it requires a 4x4 vehicle and can be challenging for first-time off-road drivers (even those with beach driving experience). This video covers the entire 4 kilometer drive between the 2x4 parking area and the Deadvlei parking area so that you can familiarize yourself with the drive before you do it yourself. Helpful tips on sand driving are included.

Driving the 4x4 sand road from Deadvlei/Sossusvlei to 2x4 parking area

When in Namibia you should not miss Sesriem and the sand dunes at Sossusvlei. The dead camel thorn trees at the white clay pan Deadvlei surrounded by high sand dunes is one of the greatest sights in Namibia. From Sesriem, it´s a 60km drive to the 2x4 car parking on a tar road. But to reach the Deadvlei you need to drive a 4km long deep sand pad. That´s an adventure that you should not miss.
Did you rent a pricy 4x4 with reduction and all-terrain tires? THEN USE IT!!! Don´t think about air pressures or getting stuck in the sand. Just do it and have fun!
