Daily life as a sailor, at American Samoa and Samoa, Ep 39 Hilma Sailing

Strong winds and a letter of warning in the Cook Islands

Our feelings about the Cook Islands are a bit torn.
Aitutaki was beautiful! So was Rarotonga, but because of all the bureaucracy we did not see much and basically just wanted to sail away from that port as fast as possible. We even got a letter of warning, since we did not send an email before we arrived..
It is not always easy to sail around the world (all sailors do not have internet onboard).

We hope you will enjoy it!

A tiny island in the middle of the Pacific, Ep 36 Hilma Sailing

Palmerston is one of the Cook islands and that island was amazing. The people were great, the nature was wonderful and we really enjoyed our time there.
We hope you will enjoy it too!

A lot of FAD:s! If we hit one, we would sink. - Ep. 55 Hilma Sailing

In this episode we sail to Philippines in Southeast Asia. Our last sail in the Pacific turned out to be wonderful, with a very calm ocean and a lot of fishes, but… we also saw a lot of FAD:s, Fish Aggregating Devices. A sailors nightmare. We decided to drift one night, since we were afraid of hitting one of them.

We hope you’ll enjoy it!

So much plastic on a small island in the middle of the Pacific. Ep 43 Hilma Sailing

Tarawa was our first stop in Kiribati. We had to do the clearance in a town called Betio and when we went ashore we got chocked. So much plastic and garbage! That was very sad to see. Thank you Kenneth Weiss for letting us use your photo and for your important work and spreading information around the world!
Just a few miles away, in the same atoll, it was much cleaner and we spent one of the days exploring with some other sailors.

This is what Sailing Around the World is about! Ep 44 Hilma Sailing

Butaritari in Kiribati is one of our Favorite Places in The World!
Abaiang was great and it was so funny to meet all the kids, even though some of them probably thought we were scary ghosts.
We loved it, but there was something about the atoll Butaritari that we can’t describe.
It was stunningly beautiful, the snorkeling was amazing and it just felt so right.
It was a paradise and definitely a place we will remember forever.

Huge coins and traditional dance in Yap- FSM - Ep. 54 Hilma Sailing

Our last stop in the Pacific was in the island of Yap, in Federated States of Micronesia. In Yap, we got visited by Paul Fenn and his son Graham. Together we explored the island, both above and under the water.
Paul also interviewed us for Jeanneau Underway. If you want to see the interview it’s available on:

He made a few more episodes about us after that so if you’re interested in those too, take a look at later episodes at Jeanneau Underway.

We hope you’ll enjoy!

Humpback whales, sea snakes, fishes, caves, corals… Niue has it all!
Even though we only stayed for a week we have to make two episodes about this place. There is so much to see, the islands itself is totally unique and we just loved it!

After we lost the rudder, we explain what happened and answer questions. Ep. 46 Hilma Sailing

We had a lot of work to do in Majuro, after the rudder loss in the open ocean. A lot of things had to be repaired and exchanged and we were happy that we managed to reach the Marshall Islands. In the atoll we also celebrated Christmas and New Years and then we got the cyclone waring..

Injury and hospital visit in Fakarava. Ep 29 Hilma Sailing

Once again we guessed wrong about the tidal and current through the pass into the Fakarava atoll. The water was boiling.
We had some nice days but we turned out to be staying longer than we’ve planned because of Oskar’s injury.
We hope you will enjoy it!

BlueWater Cruising will show you how: We cruise through Tonga, pointing out some of the most important things we need as cruisers, such as a fast and durable dinghy, a brave and courageous soul, and a close-knit sailing community. Dealing With Seasickness On A Whole New Level - Ep. 157 RAN Sailing

We return to USA but things doesn’t go as we had hoped… We take the first weather window to sail south and Malin gets really seasick for the first time in a few years. You have to see why :)

We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat Ran, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter in January 2016. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.
