Amazing Local Thai Food in Koh Samui

Read the full restaurant review here: but you can read more about this resort here:

On Day 2 in Koh Samui (be sure to check out Day 1 if you haven’t already: ) we woke up after a great night’s sleep at Santiburi Beach Resort. The first thing I did in the morning was take a morning swim - one of the best times to take a swim with the sun is not strong, the water is calm, and it’s peaceful and quiet. After a swim in the ocean at Mae Nam beach, we continued onto breakfast at the hotel. Breakfast was a buffet style, and it was pretty typically of any hotel buffet - including all the stations of different types of food. I went straight for the omelet, and loaded it with chilies and fish sauce. Breakfast was excellent.

After finishing breakfast, we headed to Santiburi Country Club to take a quick tour of their golf course. The course is the only full course on Koh Samui, and it’s considered to be one of the most beautiful golf courses in Thailand. We drove around the course on a golf cart, stopping at some of the main holes to get a wonderful view of Koh Samui.

Then it was time for lunch… and this turned out to be one of the best lunches and probably the best meals I had in Koh Samui. Food in Koh Samui is sort of hard - there are many Thai restaurants that cater to tourists, and at those restaurant the food can be good, but it also might not be that good. It really depends. But in my opinion, one of the best ways to find the best restaurants in Koh Samui for local southern Thai food is to go to the roadside, or neighborhood local curry and rice restaurants, in Thai called Khao Gaeng. Recommended by some staff from our hotel, we headed over to Lan Saka (ร้านลานสกา) for lunch. We arrived right at lunch time, so the restaurant was busy and unfortunately some of the dishes had already sold out. But they still have plenty of curry left, and so Ying and I ordered a nice selection of different southern Thai food to eat. We ended up ordering about 5 different dishes. The gaeng moo (แกงหมู), pork curry, was curried in a thick and rich coconut milk curry and the curry paste flavor was vibrant. We also ordered a chicken curry which was equally as good. All the other dishes were also excellent, and it really was probably the best Thai meal I had in Koh Samui.

After lunch at Lan Saka (ร้านลานสกา) restaurant, we headed back to Santiburi and just hung around all afternoon enjoying the beautiful atmosphere and transferring to different lounge positions. It was an excellent day in Koh Samui.

That completes Day 2 of our short trip to Koh Samui.

???????? First Day on KOH SAMUI! ???????? Can I Find Authentic Local Thai Food?

Big thanks to @FlyBangkokAir for getting us to Samui in style. If you have limited time, this is the only way to go! Quick, easy and comfortable! Book from their official site now for their 2160 THB Early Bird Special:

So today I headed back to Koh Samui for the first time in 5 years and I was very curious to see if I could find some authentic local Thai street food at reasonable prices given that most of the places on the island (East Coast at least) seem to be geared towards foreign tourists.
In the video, I say I’m in Maret, which is technically true but the town is actually called Hua Thanon. The district is Maret

Luckily, Ying from @yingsthaicookinghome2839 recommended my a kanom jeen shop that is a family favourite and it didn't disappoint!

The thick, rich nam ya curry was a welcome change from the usual thin curry I'm used to and the pad mee samui was interesting if not a little sweet - 40 THB each - £0.95 / $1.15

Directions to ขนมจีนป้าเล็ก:

Next I headed for Dim Sum and Bak Kut Teh at a little roadside restaurant called ร้านพันตำลึง:

90 THB - £2.10 / $2.45

Directions:

I finished up with a coffee at Homegrown x Café K.O.B

Latte: 75 THB

Directions:

Big thanks to @FlyBangkokAir for getting us to Samui in style. If you have limited time, this is the only way to go!
Quick, easy and comfortable! Book from their official site now for their 2160 THB Early Bird Special:

In my opinion, Samui still has some great options for anyone serious about Thai street food, you just need to get away from Chewang, Lamai and Bophut. I want to give you options no matter where you are in Koh Samui so you can always enjoy some amazing local Thai food.

THIS CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT KOH SAMUI FOOD! ????????

Today I’m in Koh Samui Thailand and I’ve found an absolute street food, or actually BEACH FOOD joint that I think you have to try on your next trip to Koh Samui.

For 69 baht - £1.60 / $2.00 at at ร้านปอเล บางมะขาม Porlay Samui you can have as much beachside curry with khanom jeen as you want as well as a dessert. For an extra 25 baht, I’d suggest getting some of the excellent gai tod (fried chicken) on offer here.

at ร้านปอเล บางมะขาม Porlay Samui is located directly on the beach with unrivalled in koh samui and offers what i think is the best value street food, or in this case BEACH FOOD that ive found on the island.

To get to at ร้านปอเล บางมะขาม Porlay Samui :

You’ll find street food on many street corners in Koh Samui, be it in Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut or Mare Nam and at all of the markets. There is a different night market every night of the week in Koh Samui. Thai food markets and night markets are one of the best places to buy fresh and authentic Thai food while you travel in Thailand. There are loads of Thai food markets & night markets all over Thailand. At the markets you'll find so much Thai cuisine on offer & the food here is cheap, and so tasty! And in case you’re worried, eating Thai street food is perfectly safe. It’s what the locals eat and it is cooked fresh and sold quickly. I’ve been eating it nearly daily since 2012 in Thailand and my friends who have been to visit and tour Thailand have all eaten it, and none of us have had any problems. Thai street food is some of the best Thai food you’ll find in Thailand!

The markets in Thailand are also a great place to get an insight into Thai culture while you travel in Thailand. You can shop alongside the locals and learn what they buy and eat. And the markets are a great place to try traditional Thai street foods, learn Thai recipes and cooking, as well as eat some of the best Thai dishes in Thailand. You'll see the people cooking the food right in front of you. And best of all, the food is cheap, often much cheaper than eating in a Thai restaurant. Eating at markets is a good way to eat cheap on your Thailand holidays.

Make sure you check out some Thai Food Markets on your trip to Thailand, and be sure to sample some of the amazing Thai street food that's available in Thailand! If you want to try some of the most delicious food in the world be sure to visit Thailand!

Fresh and Delicious Local Thai Food in Koh Samui! ????????

My whole Thai food playlist here! ????

My Thailand travel for food adventure ends here (for this year), in the beautiful island of Koh Samui. This is one of the islands of the Gulf of Thailand, together with Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. The hotel I was staying in didn't have their restaurant open and so I had to order a takeaway, trying to look for stuff I had not tried yet. I ended up trying:

- Tom Kha Goong, a delicious coconut milk seafood soup. Most people are familiar with Tom Kha Gai, the chicken version. This is essentially a coconut based soup, bit sweet, a bit sour, a bit acidic thanks to the lemongrass and the kaffir lime leaves.
- Pad See Ew Moo, that is, stir fried soy sauce noodles, in my case, with pork meat as main protein source. Nice and savoury, with those chewy flat noodles, pappardelle-style, which I'm absolutely crazy for. Lots of greens too, including mushrooms, ginger, tomatoes, and potatoes.
- Gai Pad Med Mamuang, or, the famous Thai chicken-cashew nuts, again, juicy pieces of stir fried chicken amidst a bed of greens.

Stay tuned for more travel for food adventures, new country coming soon!!

This is a travel for food channel and I enjoy eating street food around the world! Eating street food from different countries is what keeps me alive :D
