21. Alone on An Island With His Three Wives. Sailing Palmerston @The Life Nomadik

Palmerston Island - community of cousins Vlog 82

Palmerston Island has the most interesting history. First discovered by Captain James Cook in 1774 it was settled in 1863 by Englishman William Marsters along with his 3 Polynesian wives and 23 children. Today the island is still owned and run by the direct descendants of William Marsters with the exception of the nurse, teacher and church minister! The islanders show incredible hospitality to the steady stream of yachts that visit here every year, providing mooring buoys and lunch with your host family ashore everyday. Seeing as they have no shops and only two supply ships visit every year, the yachts are a great source of both supplies and entertainment for the locals. Possibly one of the most unique places on the planet - enjoy experiencing our visit with us!

We are the Robbins family sailing on our boat named Nikau.
We are a family of 5. Our 3 kids are doing NZ correspondence school on board. They are growing to love it! What's not to love about 3 hours of school a day and then a different playground for the afternoon every day!

We've traveled from New Zealand to Sardinia in Italy to pick up our boat and we plan over a few seasons to sail her back to New Zealand.

We hope you enjoy following us on our adventures!
We would love to hear from you. Especially if you are interested in doing something crazy like we are! Maybe we can help answer some questions you have?

Thanks and enjoy.

It's one of those experiences you can't expect as a traveler, but you always dream of. A local family decides to adopt you and treat you like family. Well, here in Palmerston it's sort of a tradition. Each sailor that decides to make their way to this remote atoll is given a mooring ball and adopted by locals for their stay. It is an incredible service and a wonderful experience.

We hope you enjoy this little peek into local island life, cause we're happy to bring you along for the adventure.

Cook Islands: Palmerston & Beveridge Reef / Sailing Aquarius #46

You will not be disappointed as Aquarius visits Palmerston, part of the Cook Islands in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It’s an island with no shops, nor restaurants, and only about “30 something” inhabitants. Palmerston has unique history - In 1863, one dude, William Marsters, with 3 wives, moves onto the uninhabited Island, and starts a family of 23 children! The rest is His Story!

When we arrive, Aquarius and Crew are adopted by the local family who own the mooring ball we hook. They made us feel like part of the family, and took great care of us - Transportation to and from shore each morning, and a large delicious lunch each afternoon.

We also meet up with a very special local, Bill Clinton. Bill is one of the great conversationalist of our time! While we chat, and debate, all the world’s issues, Bill serves up coffee, cake, and YES - ice-cream! For and encore, Bill makes it rain coconut water……. YOU GOT TO SEE THIS. And If that's not enough, we make a short visit to Beveridge Reef - a submerged atoll in the middle of the Pacific ocean...

Well... sit back get comfortable, and start watchin’… Join us!

Thanks so much for watching! Stay tuned as next Friday 12PM EST we release a new video!

DAVID POLLITT SAILS - PALMERSTON, COOK ISLANDS July 2010

Almost 1000 miles directly east of Tahiti lies a fascinating island called Palmerston. Fascinating not only for its inherent beauty but for the intrigue that still lives on in the lives of the inhabitants. It all started with a British captain named William Marston and his three pacific island wives......I stopped to satiate my curiosity.

This video was produced during a 3 year solo circumnavigation June 2009 to May 2012. I was sailing SHEARWATER a 47 ft catamaran built by John Conser. Fast, agile and strong. I became the first Symphony Conductor to sail solo around the world.

Itinerary:
ATLANTIC OCEAN: Florida USA, Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, Cartagena, Colombia, Panama Canal,
PACIFIC OCEAN:Galapagos, Marquesas, Tuomotos, Tahiti, Cook Islands, Fiji, Australia
INDIAN OCEAN:Christmas Island, Cocos Keeling Islands, Rodriguez, Mauritius, South Africa
ATLANTIC OCEAN: St Helena Island, Ascension Island, Florida USA

A few Interesting facts:
DISTANCE TRAVELED 30,000 + MILES
LONGEST LEG: Ascension to Florida, 7000 miles, 46 days
FUEL: Less than 500 gallons
FASTEST SPEED 21 Knots in the Pacific
HIGHEST WIND ENCOUNTERED: 62 miles per hour, Simon’s Town South Africa

Mighty Tropical Cyclone Debbie Shows Us Her Fury (Sailing SV Sarean) Ep. 3

Tucked up a mangrove creek with preparations done, we await the arrival of a Category 5 Tropical Cyclone (TC Debbie) – and she was a BEAST! Watch as we sit through 3 days of furious weather, then head back to Shute Harbour to find the carnage there.

We are an adventurous couple who live an alternative life - a life at sea. We feel better connected when we are sailing. We live simpler and have less impact on the environment. We take the time to immerse ourselves in different cultures, meet amazing people and experience what the oceans and our planet have to offer.

So come aboard and follow our adventures as we sail and explore our beautiful planet!

Exploring Ulithi Atoll in Yap, Micronesia - Ep. 42

After leaving Palau we head up north to explore Ulithi. Ulithi was a WWII secret naval base, and still holds tight their island traditions. We meet many new people, learn how to make coconut 'hooch', and have kids swimming of Field Trip.

So much plastic on a small island in the middle of the Pacific. Ep 43 Hilma Sailing

Tarawa was our first stop in Kiribati. We had to do the clearance in a town called Betio and when we went ashore we got chocked. So much plastic and garbage! That was very sad to see. Thank you Kenneth Weiss for letting us use your photo and for your important work and spreading information around the world!
Just a few miles away, in the same atoll, it was much cleaner and we spent one of the days exploring with some other sailors.

Island Life in Fiji – Sailing the Pacific Episode 35

We sail through some of the more remote and rarely visited Fijian Islands. We receive an amazing welcome in Moala with a traditional feast and a seat in the Chief's circle for Kava drinking. Then we sail on to the Great Astrolobe reef to explore deserted desert islands and swim with some of our favourite sea creatures, the Manta Rays.

Jelly Fish Attack! Free Diving the Balearic Islands (Sailing La Vagabonde) Ep. 93

We spent the morning free diving near the lighthouse, and BAM! a jelly fish had attacked me. In broad daylight. However, the jelly was probably nothing but graceful as it wrapped around my wrist. Just minding it’s own business as we spent the morning frolicking in the depths of it’s backyard. ‘Attack’ or not, it hurt. A lot. That’ll teach me to wear a short suit. Join us, Daniel and our two patrons Will and Marissa as we explore this beautiful east coastline of Mallorca. We love it here! and La Vagabonde! and you lovely lot! Cheers, Elay.

My Wife LEFT Me in Tahiti! Alone on our sailing yacht, S2E21

My wife and daughter departed the sailboat and left me alone in Tahiti. At the end of a whale tour of Tahiti and a visit to the Heiva dancing festival, it was just me and the dog on the boat. Janna and Sophie returned to Louisiana without me. While in French Polynesia, Janna, Sophie, and I visited Moorea and Papeete, Tahiti on our 31-foot LOD Island Packet Yachts sailboat. This is season 2 of our round the world sailing voyage.

We see our dock mate, Ryan Horsnail, of Chase the Story depart on the Cheeky Monkey catamaran on after separating with his wife, and podcast guest, Tasha Hacker, permanently.

Culebra Adventures with Sailing UMA - Ep. 55 RAN Sailing

As our paths crossed with Sailing UMA we decided to check out the island Culebra, Spanish Virgin Islands, together both by road and by the sea! We rented a golf cart that we had to push to go up the hills and went to some of Culebras pretty beaches. Then we sailed around the island to the small islands Cayo Luis Peña and Culebrita. Such pretty, pretty islands! And I almost forgot, we found a bomb! :)

We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built aluminium Beason 40, and untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. There is no set route and we will go where the wind and our minds take us.
