Sandanski
One of the favoured places of the residents and visitors of Sandanski is the town park. You have not seen anything from Sandanski if you have not taken a walk in the park Sveti Vrach. Famous for its beauty, the park is home to a huge variety of flowers and trees, some of which are centenarians.
The park itself has many fountains, benches, playgrounds, sculptures, swimming pools and a beautiful water lake with swans. In the park you can also visit a cage for pheasants and peacocks, which will impress you with their colourful beauty.
Rupite
Bulgaria is blessed with a number of picturesque locations scattered across the country. One of them is the Rupite area at the foot of an extinct volcano in Southwestern Bulgaria. The area has been known for its healing mineral water springs since the times of the Roman Empire.
The area of Rupite is shrouded in a mystical aura. This is the place where world-famous Bulgarian clairvoyant Baba Vanga spent the last years of her life. Many visitors say they feel the place is charged with special energy and that upon leaving they feel reassured and charged with faith.
In 1994, Baba Vanga financed a project to build a church named after St. Petka near her home. Many people come here to light a candle in the church and take a look at Baba Vanga's house, which has been turned into a museum.

Smolyan - Sekvoia Hotel via Booking.com approx €15. Warm, ski style chalet hotel. Minimal wifi, quiet, big views over the valley. Did the job. 6/10
Zlatograd - 1st night, again booking.com approx €15, very nice room excellent cable tv (with all football!) above a little shop. 9/10. 5 min walk from best restaurant we found in Bulgaria, up river 2 minutes, cross the bridge, next to Alexandrov House and the Ethnographic Area Complex.
2nd night - due to the 1st place being full, we took a €25 house on booking.com.
WARNING. Booking.com WITHIN Turkey will not allow you to book accommodation. Start planning and if you can, booking Turkish accommodation now,
A tale of two halves here as we tackle our highest mountain pass right up into ski territory, then have a huge downhill albeit with one last mountain pass to Zlatograd. Watch for more detail! Some of the most stunning scenery on the trip so far, and definitely the toughest riding.

Златоград — город в Болгарии. Находится в Смолянской области (второй по величине после Смоляна), входит в общину Златоград. Население составляет 6870 человек (2022).
Главной достопримечательностью города является этнографический комплекс Златоград с домами традиционной архитектуры. Это единственный этнографический комплекс такого рода в Болгарии, принадлежащий частному капиталу. В комплексе представлены традиционные народные промыслы региона, все мастерские действуют — можно понаблюдать за работой мастеров и приобрести сделанные на месте товары.
В Златограде сохраняется здание, построенное в 1852 году под взаимную школу — старшие ученики в таких школах обучали младших. В здании действует музей истории образования.
Часть города застроена современными многоэтажными домами.
В окрестностях города — оборудованные туристические маршруты, велодорожки.
15 января 2010 года открылся пограничный переход на границе с Грецией, связывающий Златоград с греческим городом Ксанти.

Here we have one more monster day in Bulgaria to Ivaylovgrad in Eastern Bulgaria, tackling yet more huge hills and finding more remote villages and towns. Definitely one of the toughest days, given the wind and cold too. The next day proves to be a whole different world as we enter Greece, and of course the sun comes back out after a few weeks of pretty much winter. After just a few hours, we approach the Turkey border and continue into beautiful Edirne....

Ivaylovgrad - Hotel Armira - 6/10. did the job. Spacious and around 20Euro with en suite. Locked bikes in outside around the side of the hotel.
Greece - just cycled through to Turkey
Edirne - Hotel Edrin - 9/10. One of the best apartment style hotels we've seen. Clean, cheap, amazing breakfast included. approx. 20Euro. Great location to walk everywhere in the city. Locked our bikes in the stairwell.
