Zhujiajiao Water Town - Top 10 China Ancient Town Nearby Shanghai - The Venice Of Shanghai （朱家角古镇）
Zhujiajaio Water Town is otherwise know as the Venice of Shanghai and considered the premier ancient town in Shanghai. If you live in Shanghai, Zhujiajiao is quite nearby (40-50km away). Other Shanghai nearby ancient towns include Qibao, Tongli, Zhouzhuang, Xitang, Luzhi, Wuzhen and Nanxun ancient towns.
Zhujiajiao boasts an array of attractions including 36 beautiful stone bridges, Yuanjin Buddhist Temple, City God Taoist Temple, and the old Qing Post Office (the best-preserved Qing Dynasty post office in China).
In my China Top Town rankings, Zhujiajiao cracks the top ten. I've compiled top Chinese ancient town rankings list from several different sources, including China Discovery, Top China Travel, China Educational Tours and more and averaged them out into one meta-ranking and Zhujiajiao is listed at 10.

Zhouzhuang water Town is one of the most famous water townships in China, noted for its profound cultural background, the well preserved ancient residential houses and the elegant watery views.
Our one day trip began at Shanghai Railway Station. We traveled from Shanghai to Suzhou in half an hour and then rode the city bus the rest of the way.
