Mufu Mansion is the common name of Lijiang Mu Family's Yamen, located under the Lion Mountain in Lijiang Old Town, which is the showplace of Lijiang Old Town culture. The entire complex is located west to east, and is a brilliant architectural art of the court.
Naxi people originally did not have a Chinese surname. When Zhu Yuanzhang established the Ming Dynasty, far away in northwest Yunnan Lijiang, Naxi Minority Governor Ajia Ade assessed the situation. In 1382 AD, Ajia Ade led his troupes and come over to Zhu Yuanzhang and pledge their allegiance to the Ming Dynasty. This move was greatly appreciated by Zhu Yuanzhang, Zhu removed “an apostrophe and a horizontal” in his surname, which makes it a “Mu” in Chinese. From then on, the traditional Naxi names are changed into the Han Nationality names.
Today's Mufu is both a tourist attraction to attract visitors from all directions, allowing them to step into the glorious history of a local governor while visiting the ancient city; and a symbol of pride for the Naxi people for their ancestors. This splendid garden of architectural art fully embodies the ancient and rugged style of the Ming Dynasty architecture, which is based on the Han architectural style of the Ming Dynasty and incorporates the local craft styles of the Naxi and Bai, and at the same time is a garden where the famous Naxi trees and exotic flowers and plants converge.

(EN) Dali City is a county-level city in and the seat of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, northwestern Yunnan province of Southwest China. Dali is the ancient capital of both the Bai kingdom Nanzhao, which flourished in the area during the 8th and 9th centuries, and the Kingdom of Dali, which reigned from 937-1253. Situated in a once significantly Muslim part of South China, Dali was also the center of the Panthay Rebellion against the reigning imperial Qing Dynasty from 1856-1863.
Dali is also famous for the many types of marble it produces, which are used primarily in construction and for decorative objects. In fact, Dali is so famous for the stone that the name of marble in Chinese is literally Dali Stone Dali is now a major tourist destination, along with Lijiang, for both domestic and international tourists. Dali and Yunnan's capital Kunming are only a 40-minute flight apart. Xizhou (喜洲) is a town located 20 km north of Dali Old Town within Dali City, part of the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan, China. It is comprised of 13 small villages with a population of approximately 54,779, predominantly Bai people along with Hui and Han residents. Situated near Erhai Lake (洱海) and Cang Mountain (苍山), Xizhou has a rich history as a trading post on the Tea Horse Road (茶马古道), a WWII base for the Flying Tigers, and is renowned for its well-preserved Bai architecture and heritage sites.
The town's history traces back to the Sui Dynasty (581 - 618 AD) and flourished during the Nanzhao Kingdom (737 - 902 AD) era, benefiting from its proximity to the kingdom's capital and expertise in architecture and engineering. Throughout the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, Xizhou continued to prosper in trade, academia, and culture, earning it the nickname Cambridge of the East due to its educational significance.
Culturally, Xizhou is celebrated for its Bai reflecting walls, traditional Three Course Tea ceremony, distinctive Bai headdresses worn by women, and a matriarchal societal organization. The town also maintains a rich tradition in producing Rushan cheese (乳扇) and Erkuai (饵块), and is known for its tie-dye (扎染) craftsmanship in nearby Zhoucheng (周城).
Economically, Xizhou's economy is primarily agricultural, with a focus on rice, corn, garlic, and broad beans, alongside a growing tourism sector due to its historical and cultural attractions. The town is accessible by bus from Dali's old town and offers a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry and architectural heritage of the Bai people in Yunnan.

The village of Baisha (Lijiang - Yunnan - China)
(EN) Baisha is a small village near Dayan town, the best way to get there is by 40 minutes biking. Baisha is also one of the first settlements of Naxi ancestors.

The Three Pagodas (Dali - Yunnan - China)
(EN) The Three Pagodas are an ensemble of three independent pagodas arranged on the corners of a equilateral triangle, near the town of Dali, Yunnan province, China, dating from the time of the Nanzhao kingdom and Kingdom of Dali.
The Three Pagodas are located about 1.5 km (0.9 miles) north of scenic Dali, Yunnan province. They are at the east foot of the tenth peak of the massive Cangshan Mountains and face the west shore of the Erhai Lake of the ancient Dali town. The Three Pagodas are made of brick and covered with white mud. As its name implies, the Three Pagodas comprise three independent pagodas forming a symmetric triangle. The elegant, balanced and stately style is unique in China's ancient Buddhist architectures, which makes it a must-see in the tour of Dali. The Three Pagodas, visible from miles away, has been a landmark of Dali City and selected as a national treasure meriting preservation in China.
The main pagoda, known as Qianxun Pagoda (pinyin Qian Xun Ta), reportedly built during 823-840 AD by king Quan Fengyou (劝丰佑) of the Nanzhao state, is 69.6 meters (227 feet) high and is one of the tallest pagodas in China's history.The central pagoda is square shaped and composed of sixteen stories; each story has multiple tiers of upturned eaves. There is a carved shrine containing a white marble sitting Buddha statue at the center of each façade of every story. The body of the pagoda is hollow from the first to the eighth story, surrounded with 3.3 meters (10 feet) thick walls. In 1978, more than 700 Buddhist antiques, including sculptures made of gold, silver, wood or crystal and documents, were found in the body during a major repairing work. The designers of the pagoda are supposed to have come from Xi'an, the capital of Tang Dynasty at that time and the location of another pagoda, Small Wild Goose Pagoda, which shares the similar style but is one hundred years older.
The other two sibling pagodas, built about one hundred years later, stand to the northwest and southwest of Qianxun Pagoda. They are 42.19 meters (140 feet) high. Different from Qianxun Pagoda, they are solid and octagonal with ten stories. The center of each side of every story is decorated with a shrine containing a Buddha statue.
There is a lake behind them. Named (聚影池) Juying Chi (Reflection pond), the pond is known to be able to reflect images of the Three Pagodas. (wikipedia)

Walking down the main street at Dali, Yunnan, China after so many years. Things have changed drastically. There are now fast food outlets, jewellery shops and boutiques.
