The village of Zamora was founded on January 18, 1574, on the orders of Viceroy Martín Enríquez de Almanza, by Spanish settlers from the Spanish city of Zamora. The Spanish were attracted to the area because of fertile valleys in the region that were well suited for agricultural development.

We spent the day exploring the city, eating delicious Michoacan foods, shopping in the local markets and meeting lots of kind Zamorano people.
This region of the country may have a terrible reputation, but at the same time it's one of the most beautiful without a doubt.

Welcome to Michoacán, aka the soul of Mexico.
Now when in Michoacan you've gotta eat carnitas.... So we started our day eating some of the best carnitas in all Mexico hands down.
After exploring the small town market we headed over to lago de camecuaro, a beautiful fresh spring water lake here in the heart of Michoacan.
We then jumped on the bus back to Zamora where we ended the day with some delicious beef rib tacos and fresh fruit slushes.
Michoacan is fantastic, we see why they call her the soul of Mexico 🇲🇽

Orgullo mexicano: el impresionante Santuario Guadalupano de Zamora (Michoacán)
El Santuario Guadalupano es el recinto religioso de estilo neogótico más grande de México y de los dedicados a la Virgen de Guadalupe más grande del mundo. Sus torres tienen 107,50 metros de alto. Es la cuarta iglesia de mayor superficie en América con 5.414,58 metros cuadrados, décimo cuarta parroquia más grande del mundo y también la novena catedral neogótica a nivel global.
Sus detalles arquitectónicos son dignos de admirar pero yo quedé más maravillado con su interior. Además de las pinturas, las ventanas de vitro, las columnas gigantes y los pisos de mármol cuenta con un órgano moderno monumental de 35 metros que lo convierte en el más grande del continente.
Y su historia está plasmada en un detalle muy significativo. Durante la Revolución Mexicana el ejército aprovechó una de las paredes de piedra para convertirla en muro de fusilamiento donde cientos de personas murieron por su fe. Dentro de la iglesia se ve intacto como quedaron cientos de agujeros que causaron las balas no se removieron como recuerdo a los asesinados. Piel de gallina al tocar esa pared y viajar al pasado automáticamente.
