Djebel Boukornine (Tunisia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Djebel Boukornine in Tunisia.
Seemingly endless dense forests extend across the hills of the Djebel Boukornine National Park. They are the green lungs of the Tunisian metropolis of Tunis that is located a few kilometres away. From the forest covered hills of the nature reserve the view stretches to the outlying areas of the pulsating capital and to the Mediterranean. The region's mostly humid and warm Mediterranean climate promotes the prolific growth of vegetation as well as numerous wild flowers. The dense undergrowth of the forests that covers the hills offers protection to a large number of indigenous animals such as wild boar and mufflon. The area close to the summit of Djebel Boukornine is one of much historical significance. At a height of around five hundred and seventy-six metres are the remains of an old Saturn temple that was dedicated to the Two Horn God who protected the former city of Carthage. The Tunisian Dorsal Pass and the bordering north eastern ridge of the mighty Atlas Mountains can be seen from the hills of the national park.Tunisia contains a diverse variety of scenery in a relatively small area and both socially and culturally it is still strongly influenced by age old customs and traditions.

Zaghouan | Tunisia | Hiking
This is a hiking trip I took to Zaghouan, Tunisa. Beautiful place!
Hope you enjoy the journey along with me.
Zaghouan:
Zaghwan (or Zaghouan; Tunisian Arabic: زغوان) is a town in the northern half of Tunisia. Situated on a low ridge of the Dorsale Mountains, the town has a mild climate and presents a green aspect. Cold water from here was taken by aqueduct to Carthage. The town is famous for its roses, originally cultivated by Muslim refugees from Spain in the seventeenth century. The town is located around 100 km due south of Tunis and around 50 km inland (west) from the Gulf of Hammamet and has an estimated population of around 38,445 (2014). It is the capital of the Zaghouan Governorate.
Zaghouan Aquaduct:
The Zaghouan Aqueduct or Aqueduct of Carthage is an ancient Roman aqueduct, which supplied the North African city of Carthage with water. From its source in Zaghouan it flows a total of 132 km, making it amongst the longest aqueducts in the Roman Empire.

Zaghouan Zipleline! - Tunisia
Another hike through the mountains of north Tunisia. This time we visit Zaghouan, where we roam the hills and old mines and also get some ziplining done!
Early start as usual and Zaghouan is not far from Tunis so just an hour later we were there. We hiked through the hills, taking in the rugged terrain, we explored an old abandoned mine shaft, along with the ruin houses of the mining facilities.
We then made our way through a dry river bed to the ziplining spot, we all had fun zipping across the valleys, some were afraid but still did it.
After the fun of the zipline it was a short hike out then we boarded the bus and visited the Water Temple.
A great day and good hike!
Thanks as always for watching!

Hiking up Djebel Zaghouan, a mountain in northern Tunisia #shorts
Today my friend Dean and I hike up Djebel Zaghouan, a 1,295m high mountain just south of Tunisia's capital Tunis. Normally it's a beautiful hike, allowing you to see colonial ruins and even ancient mines in the side of the mountain. However, today visibility was pretty bad as you can see! The trail to the top is not fully marked, although there are some spraypainted orange arrows on the rocks as you get closer to the top. I would still recommend using a GPS trail to get up there safely. My upcoming guidebook to Tunisia includes links to sources of GPS trails for this hike and many others, which make a great day trip from Tunis!

ROMAN ACQUEDUCTS, ZAGHOUAN, TUNISIA
The Zaghouan Aqueduct or Aqueduct of Carthage is an ancient Roman aqueduct, which supplied the city of Carthage, Tunisia with water. From its source in Zaghouan it flows a total of 132 km, making it amongst the longest aqueducts in the Roman Empire.
The date of the construction of the aqueduct is not entirely clear. Sources mention a visit by the Emperor Hadrian in 128, with which a five-year-long drought is meant to have come to an end. The water shortage resulting from the drought might have convinced him that the people should not rely only on rainwater any more. A second event which might have inspired it was the opening of the Baths of Antonius in Carthage in 162. These facilities on the same scale as the Imperial baths in Rome demanded a steady supply of water, which could not be fulfilled with rain water.
The aqueduct draws on several sources which ran dry at different times. The first and most important source is located near the town of Zaghouan in the Djebel Zaghouan, a mountain range about 60 km south of Carthage. In Roman times a sacred fountain structure was built over the spring, which became one of the most important in ancient North Africa.
The famous Djebel Zaghouan seen from far, vu de loin (Timelapse) hiking around Tunisia جبل زغوان
--------------------
Jebel Zaghouan is a mountain located in the northeastern part of the Tunisian ridge. It culminates at 1,295 meters at the summit of Ras El Gassâa. It extends over an area nine kilometers long and three kilometers wide.
About fifty kilometers from Tunis, the town of Zaghouan is located below its northern slope.
Its depths shelter various caves of certain interest for speleologists. This massif is also the crucible of a rich history, some of the secrets of which are still preserved under layers of earth that archaeologists continue to excavate. They extracted the Water Temple dating from Roman times nestled in the walls of the jebel. A place where mountain springs are collected, it was the starting point of the Zaghouan aqueduct which supplied Carthage with water in the 2nd century. There are also several marabouts, the most visited of which is the marabout of Sidi Bou Gabrine.
