Nova Scotia Road Trip - Best Things to do in Yarmouth

Yarmouth Nova Scotia is only two hours away from where I grew up and yet I had never been there!

Although I travel for a living I'm home in Nova Scotia right now so I've decided to visit towns in Nova Scotia, and thankfully Tourism Nova Scotia has partnered with me to create a series of videos.

Most people are interested in the AirBNB boat I stayed on, these are affiliate links but do not cost you any extra, I just get a referral link:

YARMOUTH NS: Best Places to Eat and View Dark Skies

Home to the darkest skies in North America, Yarmouth NS has amazing seafood. You can climb to the top of Cape Forchu lighthouse and eat the best sushi in Nova Scotia.

Yarmouth and Acadian Shores are PERFECT in winter.
Known as Nova Scotia's banana belt, the weather is often milder and there are lots of things to do both inside and out!

This is my third trip to Yarmouth in six months and every time I go I discover something new! This time I had just over 24 hours to do some incredible things.

Started off with some hot tea from Sip Cafe did you know they have over 120 teas? And tons of speciality coffee.

Popped into The Store Next Door Gift Shop was such an inspiring stop! It's home to Nova Scotian gifts but also employs people with disabilities and focuses on recycling.

If you have a hockey lover in your life you need to check this place out as Canadian Tire and Cleve's Source for Sports donate discontinued and broken hockey sticks, which they turn into very amazing furniture at very reasonable prices.

Of course we popped into Old World Bakery and Deli, when we stayed at La Boatique they had such tasty rolls there so we had to pick some up this time. I wish we hadn't eaten lunch because the sandwiches looked so good.
I don't feature hotels often but the Tru by Hilton Yarmouth just opened and as I know people are looking somwhere fun to stay I wanted to check it out.

There is a pool with a slide that is great for kids....or adults. You just need to book by appointment. And I love the decor here.

The rooms have TONS of plugs, and usb plugs too! As someone who is always charging devices I appreciated that! Oh and there's breakfast too, because of these strange times it is in a paper bag.

Winner's One Stop Restaurant was the biggest surprise of my trip. Next to the hotel it is attached to a convenience store with a gas station. I wasn't expecting much and I was SO WRONG!

The scallops were perfectly cooked and there were over 20 on the plate and the lobster roll was fantastic too. Also staff were really nice and the place was spotless.

I stopped by Tusket Falls Brewing Co again for a flight because I love this spot. Great beer, friendly staff and warm atmosphere.

The highlight of the day was Deep Sky Eye Observatory. I could go on and on about this place. But if you're looking for something to do THIS IS IT. The region is home to some of the darkest skies in the world and you can learn more about it here.

Tim is an amateur astronomer that also happens to be legally blind, but he learned that he can actually see some things we can't in astronomy.

Appropriate for kids 7+ to explore the dark skies and groups from 5-10 people you can view the sky through a telescope, learn why we have such dark skies and what they are doing to help keep it that way.

NOTE: All of the deep sky footage in the video belongs to Tim. I was able to just enjoy this unique experience

They do have a cozy winter cabin you can stay at. And in the summer there are incredible domes where you can sleep under the stars. I'd book one of them now as they'll go fast.

The next morning I previewed an upcoming experience that will be happening late Spring when people will be able to climb to the top of Cape Forchu Lighthouse. I already love the space out here with the interpretative trail and food by the same folks as the Argyler Lodge. But this is a game changer.

If I hadn't had enough fresh air! I stopped by the Tkipok Trail, which is only 15-20 minutes to loop around, but I loved by interpretive signs and learning more about the local Mi'kmaq. It's something I would love to know more about because it's a history and culture I didn't really learn in school.

And I saved the best for last, I met Sonia from Honey Bee Ice Cream Parlor in July and she is so inspiring. She's such a hard worker and full of energy.

Her place is spotless and everything is on point. So when she told me she was now serving sushi I don't know why I thought it would be a couple rolls - she has a full TWO PAGE menu!
If you're wary of sushi not everything here is raw. There are plenty of options to dip your toes. The bento boxes have fish katsu. which was a panko breaded fish that was SO FRESH. Sonia said she never buys frozen fish and buys from local fishermen. I haven't had sushi in Halifax in years but I think Sonia may be serving some of the best sushi in Nova Scotia.

Discover Yarmouth & Acadian Shores, Nova Scotia

Picture this. A remote land tucked away on the tip of Nova Scotia, surrounded by vast expanses of green and the deep blue sea. It’s a charming gem of a place that’s definitely off the beaten path. Where Main Street is still, well, the main street. And where the folks are friendly, the fish are plentiful, and having a good time is always on the menu.

You’ll find all of this, and so much more, in Yarmouth & Acadian Shores.
