Start your visit at the Stone Forest (Shilin), one of Kunming’s most famous attractions. This UNESCO World Heritage Site features towering limestone formations that resemble a forest of stone. Walking through the paths between these dramatic rock formations is like stepping into a natural wonderland.
Visit the Green Lake Park (Cuihu Park), a beautiful urban park located in the heart of Kunming. It’s a great spot for a leisurely walk, especially in the spring when cherry blossoms bloom. You can watch locals practicing tai chi, feed the koi fish, or enjoy a boat ride on the lake.

If you are wondering what to do in Kunming, it's good to know that Kunming tourist attractions can be easily visited on your own. The must do in Kunming is the Dragon Gate, located on the cliff of the Western Hills (Xishan Mountain) where you can have a view of the Dianchi Lake. The seagulls at Green Lake are a wonder and if you visit during the winter time, this is definitely a must see place in Kunming. Yuantong Temple is very tranquil and best visited in the late afternoon.

Kunming Xishan Scenic Area, Yunnan, China
West Mountain, located in the western suburbs of Kunming, Yunnan Province, China, Dianchi Lake, 15 kilometers from the city, north from Biji Pass, south to Gray Bay, both like a huge sleeping Buddha, but also like a supine girl, it is called sleeper Foshan, also known as sleeping beauty. It consists of Biji Mountain, Huating Mountain, Taihua Mountain, Luohan Mountain, Hang Bang Mountain and other mountains. Here the mountains stretch more than 40 kilometers, and the highest elevation is 2,500 meters. It is a large forest park and a scenic area with many places of interest. It is mainly composed of Huating Temple, Taihua Temple, Sanqing Pavilion, Longmen, Nie Er Tomb and other scenic spots such as Puxian Temple and Yangsheng Temple in the foothills.

For China's May Day Holiday we went to Xishan Island in Suzhou. The island is located on Taihu Lake, which is known for the tea and many different fruit that grow on the island.
We went to Linwu Caves and MingYueWan Ancient Village. It was an interesting day with challenges that we usually face while traveling within China.

As of my last knowledge update in January 2024, XiShan (西山), also known as the Western Hills, is a popular scenic area located near Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province in southwestern China. Keep in mind that there may have been changes or developments since then, so it's a good idea to check more recent sources for the latest information.

**XiShan (Western Hills):**
1. **Location:** XiShan is situated to the west of Kunming, providing panoramic views of the Dianchi Lake and the city itself.

Huating Temple is located on the side of Huating Mountain, Xishan, Kunming City, Yunnan Province. From the Biyao Jingshe to the south, you can go up the trail to the south and climb Huating Mountain. Among the vast forests, a pavilion decorated with red and green hides between the pines and Berlin. The portal, the bell tower, with light bells oscillating between the mountains.
During the ROC period, the Huating Temple was desolate, the courtyard was overgrown with weeds, and wild animals were infested. In 1920, Tang Jiyao invited Zhou Monk Xuyun to come to Huating Temple to preside over the puja. At the end of the puja, Tang Jiyao asked Monk Xuyun to preside over the Huating Temple reconstruction project.
With the support of the Tang family, Xuyun completely renovated the Huating Temple, built a building with Tibetan scriptures, built the Great Pavilion of Compassion, and laminated five hundred arhats on both sides of the main hall. The entire Huating Temple renovation project is very large and lasted five or six years.
Since then, after the consecration of the Buddha statues, Yunlou Temple became the largest Zen jungle in Yunnan Province.

Kunming is located in the Chinese province of Yunnan in southwest China.The Buddhist temple of Ykan Ton Si dates back to the Tang Dynasty. The design of the city’s largest temple complex was influenced by many diverse ethnic groups. The highlight of the complex is a lake in the middle of which a number of bridges lead to an octagonal pavilion. The Temple of Total Penetration (yes, that’s its name!) is a tranquil and peaceful haven amid the busy alleys of Kunming’s old town.In the west of Yunnan Province, there are magnificent views from Xi Shan Mountain. Across Dianchi Lake and nestled among the rocks are numerous temples that were once the scene of ritual sacrifice. On the downward journey, the temples loom larger and larger while earthenware images of Buddha depict various stages of life.Yunnan’s most famous site is the unique Stone Forest of Shilin. Its limestone rock originated from a long since dried–up ocean, when the elements set to work on creating its fantastic and bizarre forms. The most amazing formations were given dramatic names such as The Sea of Fire, Dragon’s Tooth and Heavenly Sword. Pagodas, columns and strange flowers appear to rise from the rock and to facilitate access tunnels and paths have been cut into the rock face.The Venice of the Far East is the nickname of the ancient Chinese city of Lijiang, in the northwest of Yunnan Province. The picturesque centre of the old town of Dayan is an architectural gem. Three rivers and several small creeks flow through the historic cit and there are various splendid stone bridges date back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Bao Shan is a typical village of the region and is just as it was hundreds of years ago with farmers slowly leading their ox wagons through the village. The houses were built over a period of more than 200 year between the Ming and Qing Dynasties, in 14 and 16 A.D. Yunnan Province - place of simplicity, exquisite culture and spectacular natural wonders!
