Aussies flock to Longreach in central Queensland to encounter some of the greatest legends of the outback. Located in the vast heart of the state (13 hours’ drive from Brisbane or seven hours from Rockhampton) Longreach has forged a place for itself in Australian folklore, thanks largely to the presence of the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Qantas Founders Museum.
In this episode of our YouTube travel series, we bring you tips for ten top things to do Longreach and Winton. While they’re almost two hundred kilometres apart, Longreach and Winton are often done as a duo by visitors to the region. Winton is the smaller of the two, but offers plenty to see and do in its own right.

Although it is only a small town, it is a popular tourist destination due to its interesting history, unique attractions and rugged natural landscape. We spent a week in Winton and enjoyed the town and the friendly outback hospitality.
Whilst in Winton, we wandered along the main street, enjoyed a live sheepdog show at the Australian Hotel, and watched a movie at the Royal Open Air Theatre. We also checked out the Musical Fence, the birthplace of Qantas, visited the Waltzing Matilda Cente and went on the Rangelands Rifts and Sunset tour. We visited the Age of Dinosaurs Museum and wandered around Arno’s Wall and the Willie Mar Heritage site.
Elderslie Street is the main street of Winton, and as we wander along the wide street, we can see many lovely old historic buildings, fun art installations and colourful murals.
The Original North Gregory Hotel was built in 1879 and is famous for being the location of the first live performance of Banjo Paterson’s Waltzing Matilda in 1895. The current Art Deco-styled hotel was opened in 1955 and is the fourth hotel on this site; fires destroyed the other three.
The Corfield & Fitzmaurice Store was built as a general store in 1916. The National Trust lists it as one of Australia's most perfectly preserved old-style general stores. It now houses a craft and gift shop with a small museum with dinosaur, shearing and opal displays.
The Australian Hotel was established in 1897 and rebuilt in 1925 after the original burnt down. We enjoyed a pizza and a sheepdog demonstration in the beer garden at lunchtime.
The Royal Open Air Theatre was built in 1918 and is one of only two open-air picture theatres left in Australia; the other is in Broome, Western Australia. You can browse through the museum during the day, then grab some popcorn, and watch a movie when the sun sets.
The quirky Winton Music Fence was developed by percussionist and composer Graeme Leak. It is a fun, free spot to explore your musical talents.
The first board meeting of Qantas was held in Winton in 1921, making it the birthplace of Qantas. Near the musical fence, you will find the birthplace of Qantas metal statue and a cairn with information about Qantas’ first landing ground in Winton.
The new Waltzing Matilda Centre boasts state-of-the-art displays and exhibits that tell the story of Waltzing Matilda. We spent several hours exploring the Waltzing Matilda Centre and the Qantilda Museum, browsing the interactive displays that tell the story and history of the Winton Shire, including the Great Shearers Strike of 1891 and the birth of QANTAS.

Red Dirt Tours operates the Rangelands Rifts and Sunset tour, and they take us by bus to a jump-up on the privately owned Rangelands Station. Here, we walk through the rifts created by thousands of years of erosion. We then had a glass of wine and some nibbles as we enjoyed the stunning views from the sunset lookout.
See more here ~
The Australian Age of Dinosaurs has the world's largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. It is open seven days a week and has several ticket options. We did the Ultimate Tour, which included a self-guided walk of the Dinosaur Canyon and guided tours of the March of the Titanosaurs exhibition, the Collection Room and the Fossil Preparation Laboratory.
See more here ~
Arno's Wall is located in Arno’s Park behind the North Gregory Hotel, two metres high and over seventy metres long. It is made from concrete and rock from Arno’s opal mine at Opalton and is jam-packed with motorbikes, lawnmower parts, propellers, typewriters, pots and pans, sewing machines and even the kitchen sink.
A block away from the town centre is the site of Willie Mar’s market garden, possibly the last working Chinese market garden in Queensland. Willie Mar established it in 1923 to provide fresh fruit and vegetables to local residents, and it continued to operate until a flood destroyed it in 2000.

While there have been various discoveries of dinosaur bones and tracks in Australia over the past century, a more complete picture of our once mighty megafauna is only now beginning to emerge. Much of it centres around the ‘Winton Formation’ of sedimentary rock in Queensland, which is yielding incredible evidence of the prehistoric past.
At the forefront of that research is the Australian Age of Dinosaurs, which sits on a rocky plateau known as a ‘jump-up’, a few kilometres east of the outback town of Winton. Established by David and Judy Elliott following the discovery of a giant femur from a sauropod in one of their paddocks, this impressive not-for-profit facility now holds the largest collection of fossilised Australian dinosaur remains in the world.
In this video we catch up with education co-ordinator Grace Elliott to learn more about what visitors to the museum can expect.

EXMOUTH, AUSTRALIA - North West CAPE & NINGALOO: Road Trip CANYONS & Snorkeling
Exmouth is located on the famous Ningaloo Reef, the counterpart of the Great Barrier Reef which lies on the eastern side of Australia. On the west side is a beautiful underwater world full of tropical fish, sharks and sea turtles. On the North West Cape in Western Australia we drive to this remote place and also visit the Cape Range National Park. In hundreds of kilometers there is no life to be seen, but there are deep canyons, desert landscapes, special animals and blue bays full of underwater life.
Australia is a paradise for every traveller. The gigantic country is full of wild animals, beautiful natural places and cultural highlights. After a previous trip along the east coast of Australia, we now visit the west coast in the province of Western Australia. And how? We take the 4x4 with two rooftop tents and head out into the great outdoors. Earlier you saw us drive to the southwestern tip of Australia in Margaret River and we also visited the metropolis of Perth with its beautiful skyline. We then visited Fremantle, the Pinnacles, Geraldton, the pink Hutt Lagoon, the outback in Kalbarri National Park and the World Heritage Site of Shark Bay. After this part in Ningaloo and Exmouth we will visit the Outback in Karijini National Park, Port Headland, 80 Mile Beach, Cape Keraudren and Broome.
We make our trip through Australia during a year-long world tour. We may even continue to travel indefinitely. On New Year's Day we started in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the Canary Islands. Then you saw us in Oman, Cape Verde, Martinique, Saint Lucia, Tobago, Grenada, the Bahamas, the United States, Mexico, Ecuador, the Galapagos Islands, Brazil, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia. The next continent Australia is already our nineteenth destination. Follow us on this world tour, first in Australia, from Perth to Broome and then to many more beautiful destinations! We also cross over to the Philippines and Africa! We travel non-stop all year round and film everything, with a new episode every week. Also take a look at instagram @woutoftheworld or

🎶 Waltzing Matilda Centre ~ Winton Queensland
🎶 Waltzing Matilda Centre ~ Winton Queensland
This is the first museum in the world that is dedicated to a song. The new Waltzing Matilda Centre boasts state-of-the-art displays and exhibits that tell the story of Waltzing Matilda.
The Waltzing Matilda Centre is on the main street of Winton and is open every day. It also houses the Visitor Centre, the Tuckerbox cafe, a gift shop, toilets and an outdoor eating area.
00:00 Introduction & Outside the Museum
01:10 Waltzing Matilda Room
01:32 Main Exhibition Area
03:00 Outside Area
On our recent visit, we spent several hours exploring the Waltzing Matilda Centre and the Qantilda Museum. The Museums have a series of interactive displays that tell the story and history of the Winton Shire, including the Great Shearers Strike of 1891 and the birth of QANTAS.
We started in the Waltzing Matilda Room, which has a large selection of Waltzing Matilda records and memorabilia, including a copy of the first poem by Banjo Paterson.
The Waltzing Matilda Centre first opened in 1998 to celebrate Australia’s unofficial anthem, first written in 1895 and publicly performed in Winton. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the original museum and most of the exhibits in 2015.
It was rebuilt in 2018, and this stunning building now incorporates the story of Waltzing Matilda, the Qantas origins, Aboriginal cultural history, opal mining information, the Shearers’ Strike exhibits and information about the dinosaur trail.

4K Drone Footage - Winton Woods Campground - Cincinnati, Ohio
Welcome to High Sight Drone POV.
My channel is all about aerial drone videos. I am a Part 107 Commerical FAA Remote Pilot and I will be posting drone footage from various places around the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio area. I will also be traveling with my RV and filming places around the United States. The idea of this channel is to give the viewer a different propective of landscapes from above. I will be using a Mavic Air 2 drone from DJI.

Winton Pictorial - Queensland.
Winton is in the area where Dinosaurs once roamed. Its a big tourism feature from the town. It has some nice old stores to look through as well.
