Colorado river rafting through the Grand Canyon

Dave and the Macurs (Rich, David, Daniel) go on an 8-day motorized trip with Wilderness River Adventures, Sept. 9-16, 2022. The trip included a bus ride from Page, AZ to Lees Ferry, rafting 188 river miles to Whitmore Wash, helicopter takeout to Bar 10 Ranch on the North Rim, and a fixed wing charter flight back to Page. We had rain; we had sun; it was great!

These sites appear in the Fire Lookouts of the Northwest book, and are considered the simplest visits of lookout sites on the entire list.

*** Lorena Butte LO is located on private land & was moved from its original location but is still officially used for emergency purposes.

We had quite an adventure trying to get to Whitmore Falls near Lake City, Colorado. While dodging some raging wildfires in San Juan National Forest, we drove over some beautiful mountains, mesas and plateaus. We even passed through an ominous ghost town called Capital City!

Our 3 Day Trip has become the favorite for those who are looking for a shorter but exciting adventure. There is something for everyone on this trip; from horseback riding to secret Grand Canyon waterfalls.

11-18-2022 - Mesquite, NV to Whitmore Canyon Overlook

Day 1 of a 3-day trip from Mesquite, NV back to Glenwood Springs, CO. Today's trip begins by heading to Whitmore Canyon Overlook in Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument. This was another new overlook of the Grand Canyon for me to visit. I made it an early morning so that I would be able to arrive, setup camp, and then hike down to the Colorado River and back with plenty of daylight left. I spent one night here and left early the next morning to continue my journey home. Here is the Google Map of the route that I took for this day trip -

Welcome to our California video series, Golden California. An insight on everything California, from popular locations, top attractions, and hidden gems located all across the Golden State.

In this episode we take you just outside Mammoth Lakes, California to an area called Hot Creek Geological Site. Here geysers and hot water from the Long Valley Caldera spew out of the creek in this scenic canyon. The site holds blue geothermal pools that sit about a running creek. Though it is dangerous and prohibited from entering this site is a great place to see for yourself.

Explore the heart of the Lower Grand Canyon:

This shorter section of the Colorado River is a good trial for folks not sure they are ready for a longer Grand Canyon rafting trip.
Starting in Las Vegas we fly into the Bar 10 Ranch on the rim of the Grand Canyon. The following morning we take a helicopter down to the river and meet the rafts at Whitmore Wash. The next four days we float through the majesty of the Grand Canyon and the Lower Granite Gorge.
