CONNECTICUT - USA Travel Guide | Around The World

Connecticut is a small New England state, full of charm, rural beauty and several major cities. The State's top tourist attractions include Yale University, which maintains numerous world-class museums, Mystic Seaport, the restaurant and nightlife scene in downtown New Haven, The Maritime Aquarium, and two major Native American casinos.

Regions :

Fairfield County
Southwest Connecticut, near New York City. This area has many beaches and lighthouses, and many of the state's biggest cities, such as Bridgeport, Stamford, and Norwalk.

Litchfield Hills
Northwest Connecticut. This is the least densely populated area of the state. The region is known for it's colorful fall foliage. Most of the region is rural, but there are a few smaller cities, including Torrington, Danbury, and New Milford.

Greater New Haven
South central Connecticut. Home to Yale University, and numerous museums and theaters. It includes cities such as New Haven and Milford.

Connecticut River Valley
From North central Connecticut to the coast. Home to New England's 2nd most populous region, the Knowledge Corridor, featuring Connecticut's state capital Hartford and many historic sights.

Mystic-Eastern
New London, Tolland and Windham Counties in eastern Connecticut. A good place to get a view of the Long Island Sound, with beaches, and the famous Mystic Seaport/Aquarium. Has two of the biggest casinos in the world. Includes cities such as New London, Mystic, Uncasville, and Ledyard.

Cities :
Hartford - The state capital.
Bridgeport- The most populated city in the state.
Danbury - Also known as Hat City, Danbury is home to Western Connecticut State University, Candlewood Lake, and many good restaurants.
Greenwich - Ranked the 12th greatest place to live, Greenwich is a quaint town with a great view of Long Island.
Mystic - This is one of the most common places to visit, due to the historic seaport and aquarium.
New Haven - the state's creative capital and home to the greatest amount of pedestrian life, top-rated restaurants and tourist attractions
New London - Home to the coast guard acadamy, New London has a historic view of Long Island Sound.
Norwalk - home to trendy SoNo with an active night life and The Maritime Aquarium
Waterbury - This is a small urban community with lots to do. Look for the Union Station Clocktower that overlooks the city.

Connecticut is rich with history, nature, art and beauty. Truly something for everyone. While many people are drawn each year to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos, there is much more in this state. There are a number of beaches at the shore, state parks and forests throughout the state, and many smaller parks as well. Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam is an excellent family destination. So is the Essex Steam Train and River Boat Ride in Essex.

Crime

Although Connecticut is well known for its affluence, and is the third wealthiest state in America, there are sections in the state's largest cities (especially Hartford, Bridgeport, and New Haven) that have dangerous potential, especially at night. Common sense will more than likely keep you far from any signs of trouble in Connecticut, as the state is widely considered to be one of the safest in the country.

Ticks

Connecticut is the infamous birthplace of Lyme Disease. Make sure you know what to do if you are bitten. Tick season is usually from the spring to the fall.

Connecticut is rich in history, nature, art, and beauty. There is truly something for everyone. While many people are drawn to Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Casinos each year, there is much more in this state. There are several beaches at the shore, state parks and forests throughout the state, and many smaller gardens. Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam is an excellent family destination. So is the Essex Steam Train and River Boat Ride in Essex.
Understand about History of Connecticut.
Connecticut was one of the original 13 colonies of the United States. It was the fifth state to ratify the constitution in 1788. Over the following centuries, the state became a manufacturing center. It supported the war effort during the Civil War and the World Wars. Today, Connecticut is one of the wealthiest states in the union and is the home to many businesses.
Understand about Geography of Connecticut.
The State of Connecticut is divided in half by the Connecticut River, the largest river in New England. The state's general geographic regions can be understood as a set of quadrants, with Hartford, the state's capital, acting as the CenterPoint. Within the immediate vicinity of Hartford are the large towns of Manchester, New Britain, Bristol, Meriden, and Middletown, which have close ties with the capital, and the state's primary airport, Bradley International, 15 miles north of Hartford, in Windsor Locks. Looking beyond the heartland, the state's southeastern part has close ties to New York. It is highly developed and urbanized, including Bridgeport and New Haven and several historically affluent towns such as Stamford, Darien, and Greenwich. To the North of the urban agglomeration can be found the city of Danbury, the gateway to the state's rural northwest, and the manufacturing city of Waterbury. Moving along the shoreline, the state's southeastern part becomes significantly less urbanized than the southwest. It includes many of the state's fine beaches. This region consists of the historically important ports of Mystic, Groton, and New London and the crossroads city of Norwich. The northeastern part of the state, known to locals as the Quiet Corner, is very rural, with few significant population centers, but includes many historic towns, scenic parks, and woodlands. The largest city is Willimantic, in the southern part of the region, with the towns of Putnam and Killingly/Dayville acting as local centers of activity. The University of Connecticut in Storrs can be seen as a part of this region. The Northwestern part of the state is also very rural, especially in the northwestern corner. This region is known for its beautiful natural scenery, particularly hills and highlands and the Housatonic River, attracting visitors and campers from near and far. The region's largest town is Torrington. Several notable towns, such as Kent and New Canaan, are known for their affluent residents. The largest body of water in the state, Candlewood Lake, is in this region, as is the state's highest point, the slope of Mount Frissell (2,379 ft), on the border with Massachusetts.
Overall, the state contains eight counties and 169 towns and cities.
Understand the weather in Connecticut.
Like most of New England, the weather in Connecticut is varied with the seasons. It can be highly unpredictable in the spring and fall months. The weather in Connecticut is generally stable compared to many other parts of the country. Dangers that plague many country regions are not a danger here.
It is recommended to bring clothes for various temperatures when visiting and closely check the weather report. Although there are periods of little or no rain, a raincoat or umbrella are good items to pack. Warm clothes in the winter and light clothes in the summer are also necessary. However, it is recommended to pack a light jacket, even in the summer months.

FIRST UPLOAD!! [4k] Virtual Walk: Torrington, Connecticut

A short walk through downtown Torrington, Connecticut on 8/11/2022. I also ran into a little row of shops outside towards the end and decided to include them in the video. This is my first upload so apologies if the editing or camera work is a bit questionable. I'm still trying to get use to this! Hope you enjoy!

Great Western Adventure. Midvale, Wyoming. Small Town America Life.

Central Wyoming has great recreation opportunities which are often overlooked by the casual tourist. Many people cross central Wyoming without a thought as they travel to the national parks to the west. However, they never see or think of all the great camping, scenery, historic places and hot springs. That is ok to me because it means all these places are not crowded and reservations are rarely needed. Canyons, state parks, boating and fishing are commonplace here in central Wyoming. It is a great place to visit and stay several days and nights.

The Town of Pine Bluffs Welcomes Us to Wyoming

#shorts #drone #wyoming

On the border between Nebraska and Wyoming, on I-80, sits Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. This small Great Plains town, which was at one time one of the largest cattle shipping points on the Union Pacific Railroad, has an official town elevation of just over 5,000 feet and a population of around 1,200. Today, Pine Bluffs welcomes westbound travelers to their state or bids eastbound travelers a fond farewell on I-80, US-30, and the Union Pacific railroad, earning its nickname as the Frontier Crossroads. From the sky, it’s not hard to recognize why this settlement, first known as Rock Ranch, later changed its name to the more fitting Pine Bluffs.

The campground near Hawk Springs, Wyoming. A guide to lesser known sites small town America S06E55

Please click on the link at the end of this video to see actual footage of this place.
I hope to illustrate some of the lesser known places that one can camp in the Central Western states and mostly Nebraska, Wyoming and Idaho. There are many campgrounds and other places which relatively unknown or overlooked which I feel would be of interest to tourists / vacationers and both tent campers and RV'ers.
I found many of these places to camp with Google's camping near _______ search terms. I was amazed how many small towns and state wildlands allow camping. In addition, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho publish very complete guides to lesser known campsites.
However, one must take care in selecting these sites. Sometimes, it is only a dirt lot with no services and no bathrooms suitable only for self-contained RV units. Others, are down narrow rough roads suitable only for SUV's and trucks. Finally, and most importantly I review and rate how good I thought these campsites are and how suitable it is to tent camping. Sometimes they are true undiscovered gems which are little used or unknown outside the local community
