Day Trip to Odessa ☄️ (FULL EPISODE) S10 E10
This modern-day Boomtown isn't just a town for roughnecks and wildcatters -- it's for trippers too! Visit this West Texas town and you might just strike black gold!
For a breakfast that checks all the boxes on your foodie list, go to Dumplin’s Y Amigos. Just like the name suggests, whether you’re craving down home country cooking or a nice big plate of Mexican huevos — they make both deliciously. Oh…and did I mention they serve chips and salsa all day long??
This food truck-turned-restaurant has some of the funkiest foods you’ve ever tasted. Whether you order a heaping basket of “Buffalo Fries” or a “Homer Simpson” slider piled high with mac-n-cheese and bacon, your tastebuds are definitley going to be thanking you. Don’t skimp on dessert — they’ve got “Funfetti Fritters” which are cakeballs smothered in icing.
All around town, you’ll find tons of artsy jackrabbits (like Jack Ben Rabbit) commemorating Odessa’s long history of jackrabbit roping — seriously! It used to be a featured event at the Odessa Rodeo, but now these not-so-little guys are all that remain of that odd tradition.
If you’re a huge fan of Texas high school football, then catching a highschool football game between the Permian Panthers and Odessa Broncos is a must. The popular book and TV show, “Friday Night Lights” were based off of this very town.
Sixty-three thousand years ago, a giant crater crashed into the earth, leaving a huge hole in Odessa and plenty of intergalactic mystery. This crater has been slowly filled in with West Texas dirt and wind, but the interesting history behind it remains. It’s just waiting for you to uncover the truth at this museum.
Forget hopping the pond to see this intriuging European structure; UT Permian Basin has a replica Stonehenge that’s almost as big and just as cool to see!
Unfortunately, the Presidential Archives have closed since filming.
To trip or to trip…that is the question. Well, it should only be a question when you’re visiting this replica of Shakespear’s Globe in London. This theatre is the most authentic replica in the states — and is home to some pretty awesome productions.

✦ GEAR I USE ✦
📸 Cameras:
---------------------------------------------------
I get a lot of questions about the cameras I use. Here are my main cameras:
• [GoPro Hero 13](
• [GoPro Hero 13 Creator Edition] (
This is a very durable camera. It withstands the elements and can go places other cameras can’t. There are many accessories available for GoPro cameras which makes the camera endlessly customizable and versatile. If you are intending to make vlogs or travel videos where you speak, you might prefer the creator edition which comes with more accessories.
• [DJI Osmo Pocket 3](
• [DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Creator Combo] (
This little handheld camera is very easy to pack because of its small size. It is not as rugged as the GoPro, but is easy to carry and make stable video. I use the creator combo version which includes an additional battery and a microphone that can be clipped to your shirt for improved audio which I like for filming walking tours.
🔋 Other useful tech:
---------------------------------------------------
• [DJI OM 6](
This device attaches to a smartphone to help record more stable video.
• [GoPro Enduro Battery](
An extra battery for the GoPro.
• [Anker USB-C Cable](
A flexible and durable charging cable that charges quickly.
• [Anker USB-C Power Bank](
These are great for recharging my phone or cameras while traveling, and are also useful for power outages.
• [Anker MagGo Power Bank] (
This battery connects directly to the back of iPhones that have MagSafe and can charge the phone without the use of a cable.
• [Samsung Micro SD Card 256 GB](
This memory card works on most small cameras, and can record for a long time.
• [Samsung 2TB SSD Portable SSD](
I take this hard drive with me when I travel so that I can back up the footage that I record on my trip. It fits in one of the pockets inside my tech case, and holds a lot of footage.
✈️ Travel gear I like:
---------------------------------------------------
• [Peak Design Travel Duffel](
This durable bag fits easily into the overhead compartments on airplanes and the straps can be configured to be comfortably worn as a backpack, which is nice for long walks through an airport.
• [Peak Design Tech Pouch Large](
• [Peak Design Tech Pouch Small] (
I have both sizes, and have used the larger one consistently for many years. They are incredibly durable, and nicely fit all of my camera gear. I like that I can fit a GoPro inside of the larger one, along with cables, SD Cards, a battery and a small hard drive. People traveling with less gear or less space in their bags might prefer just the smaller pouch.
• [Wetcat Turkish Beach Towel] (
This towel spreads out large, but packs up tiny and dries quickly. I have disliked every other pack towel I have ever used, but this one is made of cotton and feels soft and does not have a funny smell.
• [Yeti Cooler]( )
Buying food when traveling gets expensive, so I try to pack as much food as I can. This cooler keeps things fresh for a long time. It also means that I can pick up local foods when I go places and bring them home with me.
🎧 Audiobooks:
---------------------------------------------------
I listen to lots of audiobooks while on the road. Get started with a free audiobook here:
• [Audible](
You might enjoy listening to Forget the Alamo the Rise and Fall of an American Myth (

Downtown - Odessa, Texas - West Texas
Odessa is a city in western Texas. Downtown, Jack Ben Rabbit is an 8-foot-tall statue of a jackrabbit. Another 37 Jamboree Jackrabbits dot the city. The Presidential Archives and Leadership Library exhibits presidential memorabilia. The University of Texas of the Permian Basin's Stonehenge is a replica of the famous English site. To the southwest, meteorite fragments are on display at the Odessa Meteor Crater.
Lubbock Texas Attractions, Big Spring, and Odessa Meteor Crater
This trip, I visit Big Spring State Park, Odessa Meteor Crater, and Lubbock, Texas sites. The Silent Wings Museum tells the story of gliders carrying troops and equipment behind enemy lines during WWII. The Buddy Holly Center had his memorabilia on display but no pictures allowed so that was a bust. The American Windmill Museum had a great deal of artifacts relating to the windmills and the part they played in westward expansion, providing water for people, livestock, and trains as well as grinding grain.
