From Wikipedia:
Stony Point Battlefield is a historic site in Rockland County, New York; the location of the 1779 Battle of Stony Point during the American Revolutionary War.
The Battle of Stony Point took place on July 16, 1779, during the American Revolutionary War. In a well planned and executed nighttime attack, a highly trained select group of George Washington's Continental Army troops under the command of Brigadier General Mad Anthony Wayne defeated British troops in a quick and daring assault on their outpost in Stony Point, New York, approximately 30 mi (48 km) north of New York City.
The British suffered heavy losses in a battle that served as an important victory in terms of morale for the Continental Army. While the fort was ordered evacuated quickly after the battle by General Washington, this key crossing site was used later in the war by units of the Continental Army to cross the Hudson River on their way to victory over the British.

*THE HUDSON RIVER AND VALLEY*
The Hudson River and Valley has played a significant role in the history and development of the United States. Described as the “Rhine of America” for its scenic beauty, it inspired the Hudson River School of painting led by Thomas Cole and others. The Hudson Valley is also home to famous homes and mansions such as those of Franklin D. Roosevelt and the Vanderbilts. Learn about the history of the Hudson Valley from the time of the Dutch settlement of the region as New Netherland and its important role during the Revolutionary War in the British attempt to split New England from the rest of the colonies. The Hudson River together with the Erie Canal has also served as a vital avenue of commerce connecting the eastern seaboard with the agricultural and later industrial heartland of the country. All about the Hudson River and Valley, with visiting and touring information, geography, history, attractions, and other points of interest.
