S**t to do around Moscow - Episode 6: Moscow Mountain - Big Views and Giant Cedars
Moscow Mountain is the giant that overlooks the southern Palouse. At just under 5000 feet above sea level, the summit rises 2500 feet above Moscow. But the summit is covered in forest, so the view is over at East Moscow Mountain, just 200 feet lower. As if the mountain isn't awesome enough, there is also a stand of giant old-growth western red cedar.
The hike from the lower parking area to the overlook is 2.25 miles. The upper parking area gets you a mile closer. Including the cedars with your trip will extend the hike by one mile. The hike is almost entirely on road and is easy walking.

Lewis & Clark Went By Wagon, We Took A Suburban
The Lewis and Clark Back Country Byway and Adventure Trail. When Chad said we were going for a 36 mile, 3 hour nature drive, I wasn’t enthusiastic about it. Adding more time in a car with Chad does not sound like my idea of fun. But by the time we finished this loop, I was already planning on how to come back and do this again. The first thing you have to do is get there. The portal to the byway is 20 miles south of Salmon off of Idaho Highway 28, in a town called Tendoy. Which is basically a store, creatively named Tendoy store. Stop and pick up any snacks you might need, and definitely grab a map.

One thing that makes this drive cool is the drive itself. With a 4,000 foot gain and loss in elevation, expect some steep grades, at times approaching 20%. Which can be pretty exciting or nerve racking depending on how you look at it. Definitely leave your trailer in Tendoy if you have one and take things slow. It is a one way road so at least you won’t have to worry about competing with oncoming traffic. . The Byway is normally free of snow from early June through October, but at peak elevations of 8,600 feet you might want to call the Public Lands Center in Salmon (phone number below). Needless to say this is a beautiful drive. The mountains, forests, and grassy foothills look much the same today as when the Lewis and Clark Expedition passed through this place in 1805. There are stunning wildflowers and wild life to see.
Everything I read suggests you leave yourself at least 3 hours to do this drive, but really you should make it a day because there’s so much to do around here. There are places for hiking, mountain biking, picnics, all marked on that map you pick up in Tendoy. There’s also cool historic landmarks, abandoned mines, and a hot springs. Sharkey Hot Springs is named for pioneer miner and rancher Frank Sharkey, this BLM recreation site features two large outdoor soaking pools, changing rooms, and a fire pit.

Downtown Oxford Michigan and the Legacy 925 Center
In today's video, I am visiting Oxford Michigan and the Legacy 925 Center. Downtown Oxford, MI is a small charming town located in north east Oakland county. While it doesn't have a very large downtown size wise, there was quite a bit of interesting things packed into it. Oxford is home to surprisingly large amount of restaurants(we decided to get some dinner at Red Knapps), shops, a movie theater, an arcade, museum, and more. There seemed to be plenty to do for a daytime visit. Plus, it is only a mile or two north of Lake Orion, another very cool small town.
In addition to walking around Oxford, Michigan we took a quick tour of the Legacy 925 Center, which was just slightly north of the downtown area. This manufacturing facility turned indoor mall is another fun place to visit if you are in the area. The Legacy Center is home to a trampoline park, indoor go-karts, escape room facility, laser tag, a boxing club, and more.
I hope you enjoy our visit to downtown Oxford and the Legacy Centers. Please stay tuned for more videos as I continue to travel around and film small downtowns. Thanks for watching.

Visiting Downtown Ortonville Michigan | Small Downtowns
Today, we are continuing our small downtown's series by visiting Ortonville Michigan. Ortonville, MI is a rather small downtown located in Oakland County Michigan right on M-15. It is a pretty small downtown but was full of some interesting buildings, businesses, and restaurant or two. Ortonville is located just a few miles north of another small town we have made a video on, Clarkston, Michigan.
We were only able to go into one shop on this particular day, Hamilton's Pet Food and more. A very nice little feed store that also sold coffee, syrup, soups, and variety of other products. There was also a very nice looking pizza place right in downtown Ortonville called Papa Bella's Pizza. While we didn't eat there, it did look like a nice pizza place.
I hope you enjoy today's video on Ortonville Michigan and stay tuned for another small town video coming soon. Thank you for watching.

Winter Snow Road Trip Drive To Visit Blairgowrie Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland Winter snow travel video of a sunny but very cold, road drive, with Scottish music, on the the A923 road on visit to Blairgowrie, Perthshire. Locals refer to the town as Blair . Blairgowrie was made a barony in favour of George Drummond of Blair in 1634 by a royal charter of King Charles I, and became a free burgh in 1809. The town expanded hugely in the 19th century thanks to the employment provided by the many textile mills which were built along the River Ericht, all now closed. By 1870 there were 12 mills along the river employing nearly 2,000 men and women and the population had increased from 400 in the 1700s to 4,000. In 1724 the military road from Coupar Angus to Fort George which passes through the town on the line of the A923 and A93 was completed. The A923 road was built, or at least rebuilt by Major Caulfeild in the 1760s as part of the military road network. It was a southern extension of the recently built route north from Blairgowrie to Fort George via Braemar and Blairgowrie, now followed mostly by the A93 and A939. The A984 from Coupar to Dunkeld was built at about the same time, and it seems that both routes followed pre existing roads and paths for the most part, but brought them up to military road standards. The Twin cities of Blairgowrie are; Pleasanton, California, United States and Cowansville, Quebec, Canada.
Alexander Dron Stewart was born in Blairgowrie on 22 June 1883, the son of William Stewart. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh graduating with an MB ChB in 1906. He was commissioned into the Indian Army on 1 September 1906. In the First World War he served as a surgeon in Gallipoli, Salonika and Mesopotamia. He was mentioned in dispatches and promoted to Major in March 1918. In 1916 he married Isobel Marguerite Mann. After the war he did further training in public health in Edinburgh. He left India permanently in 1935 and settled in Edinburgh. From 1935 to 1948 he was Superintendent of the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary on Lauriston Place. In 1936 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. His proposers were Anderson Gray McKendrick, William Glen Liston, Sir David Wilkie, and William Frederick Harvey. He died in Edinburgh on 16 August 1969. During the coronavirus pandemic I have been a volunteer driver.
