Leetonia, Ohio

Leetonia is a village in Columbiana County, Ohio. The village was founded in 1869 following the American Civil War. This small village was founded as a company town associated with the Leetonia Iron and Coal Company. The Cherry Valley Coke Ovens constructed around 1866. One of the largest facilities in the nation, these ovens were designed to transform coal into coke to manufacture iron and steel. Financial troubles hit the company during the Great Depression and the ovens were closed permanently. It is a great piece of history that is still around to see.

The Hare Krishna Commune of West Virginia | New Vrindaban, WV

Surrounded on all sides by West Virginia farming country, would you believe there exists a place where a sizable community of ascetics live to practice a religion inspired by the tenants of Hinduism? At the height of America's cultural revolution in the 1960's, A. C. Bhaktivedanta Srila Prabhupada brought forth a spiritual movement that caught international attention and spread like wildfire. The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, as it is formally called, captured the hearts and souls of a generation, disillusioned by the failures of contemporary western society. Under the guidance and direction of Srila Prabhupada, these people dropped all they knew and began the road to achieve spiritual enlightenment. Some of them undertook the challenge of establishing a self-sufficient farming community here in the northern panhandle of West Virginia where they, away from the material distractions of American society, could embrace a spiritual life devoted to Krishna, their supreme God. Having known quite literally nothing about this society except what little pieces of info I found online, I planned to venture into this mysterious location for a day, expecting a fun time sightseeing but little more than that. What I instead found were the most welcoming, admirable and interesting group of people I have ever met. Full of stimulating conversation and hearts of gold, I have nothing but respect for them. This is unlike anything we've seen before on the Coverage Project. Hare Krishna!

Big thank you to Murari and Sati for the wonderful gestures of hospitality on this given day.

Drive Through Moundsville 1

A brief drive around Moundsville, WV. This video is primarily for family and friends who grew up in Moundsville. Sorry for the occasional jerkiness of the video. I had my HD camcorder mounted to the side window of the car; however, the streets in town are not in the best of shape and the ride was bouncy at times.

Steubenville,OH-Harmony,PA

Trucking from Steubenville,OH to Harmony,PA

Drive through Oakwood Heights (Shinnston)

A small drive around Oakwood Heights in Shinnston, WV and a couple streets that lead to the area. (Duffy and Van Rufus)... It was taken late in the evening on March 7, 2013 and sometimes the reflection from the windshield is annoying but tolerable. There is no music and any noise is from the car or inside noise. There is no commentary simply the video showing the neighborhood. A very nice area in Shinnston with good people. Hope you enjoy this little trip. It is in HD so choose the highest setting your PC or device can connect to. (DSL or Cable faster than 3Mbps usually but not limited to)
