Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Wailuku
Places to see in ( Maui - USA ) Wailuku
Wailuku is a census-designated place in and county seat of Maui County, Hawaiʻi, United States. The population was 15,313 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Maui County. Wailuku is located just west of Kahului, at the mouth of the ʻĪao Valley. In the early 20th century Wailuku was the main tourist destination on Maui, though it has since been eclipsed with the rise of the resort towns such as Kaʻanapali, so much that there are no hotels to speak of in Wailuku.
Historic sites in the town include Kaʻahumanu Church (named after one of Hawaiʻi's great monarchs, Queen Kaʻahumanu) which dates to 1876, the Wailuku Civic Center Historic District, the site of the Chee Kung Tong Society Building, and the Bailey House, a 19th-century former seminary and home that houses a history museum and the Maui Historical Society. There are two ancient temples near Wailuku, called heiau — the Halekiʻi Heiau and the Pihanakalani Heiau. Both date back hundreds of years and were used for religious purposes by the native Hawaiians. Wailuku is served by Kahului Airport.
Home to Maui’s most famous Hawaiian rulers, site of Kamehameha’s decisive 1790 victory at the Battle of Kepaniwai in the Iao Valley, location of the 19th century Mission Station and birthplace of the mighty sugar industry, Wailuku illustrates the powerful influences which shaped the town, the island and the state. The area was a center of power and population in pre-historic Hawaii. In the mid-1800s it was irrevocably changed when New England missionaries brought their religious beliefs, western skills and implements and new agricultural methods. By the 1860s the Wailuku Sugar Company (owned by C. Brewer & Co.) and other plantations were busy growing and milling sugarcane. Miles of ditches were dug, bringing irrigation water from deep in the mountains to the vast fields of central Maui, and the sugar industry flourished.
Wailuku is the new home of Maui's Golden Baseball League expansion franchise, called Na Koa Ikaika Maui. It is also the hometown of Boston Red Sox outfielder Shane Victorino and Atlanta Braves catcher Kurt Suzuki. Wailuku also hosts the Maui Bowling Center, which has hosted a strong number of local bowling leagues since its grand opening in 1948. The building was originally constructed in 1945 as a furniture store but was later converted in 1948 for use as a ten-lane bowling alley. The alley utilized manual pin-setters from its opening until 1961, when it converted to automatic setting machines. Located at the corner of Market Street and Vineyard Street in Wailuku.

Hiking in Maui: Waihee Ridge Trail
This week, Kari and I took on a 4 mile round trip hike up Waihee Ridge Trail on Maui.
This is a good challenge hike and can be slick and dangerous if wet. Be careful as someone had to be picked up by a helicopter after a fall while we were hiking!
If you want to feel like you are walking in the clouds, you'll find yourself surrounded on this trail.

The Best Trails in Maui - Part III
Lahaina Harbor Front Street Walk
Planted in front of the harbor in 1873, the Banyan tree is one of the largest in the United States and one of the best attractions in Maui. Sprawling across two thirds of an acre, providing for shades for people and animals alike, this banyan tree is a one gigantic tree with multiple roots. If you are there the second or the fourth weekend, you get to join the “Art in the Park” events of arts and crafts.
The waterfront trail is literally a walk in the part with docks, boats, shops, and bands along the way.
Kihei Ocean Front Trail – Best kept secret
You won’t be able to google it because it doesn’t officially exist.
However, you can walk from Keaka Beach Par all the way to Makena Beach. Most of the walk is sandy beaches, but there are several places that are very rocky, impossible to walk over bear footed. A pair of good Aqua shoes are necessary if you feel adventurous.
But for most people, taking small detour along Kihei Highway is highly recommended.
Along this unofficial trail, you get to see the ocean views, rocky shores, modern hotels, and people relaxing under the sun in their own ways!
Wailea Beach Path
A concrete onshore walkway winding through some of the most expensive hotels and resorts in Maui, this trail offers beautiful oceans views, well maintained paths with bushes on both sides, and a view of modern living in style.
Lahaina Pali Trail
This trail can disappoint hikers if they don’t know where to enter. The southern trailhead is wrong place to start. Part of trail is covered the by steel net. And it narrows to about a foot. On the one hand is steep mountain slope, on the other, a perpendicular cliff, looking down to a four-lane highway way with cars swooshing by. But once you reach the to top, you will be rewarded with beautiful ocean views that you won’t be able to appreciate when you are on the ground.
Maui's Most Dangerous Highway
Maui is a beautiful place. The entire west coast is full of exciting places to visit and trails to take. We stayed in Kihei, you started the trip from Maalaea, making stops at Lahaina, Kaanapali, Napili, Kapalua and Blowhole. At Lahaina, we visited the Front Street. The Banyan Tree park is the most amazing. If you want to see most beautiful beach in Maui, be sure to make a stop at Kaanapali. There are a couple of highways along the west cost that may instill excitement, but would require extreme caution. One such highway is segment between Kapalua and Waiehu on highway 340. It zip-zaps on a mostly one lane road for bi-directional traffic. Against the advice of local rental car agents, we made a point to take that road just to experience how dangerous it could be. Well, it could be scary at times, but with caution, that drive could be exciting and memorable.
Waihee Ridge Trail Maui Hawaii
A fantastic hike on the west end of Maui the Waihee Ride Trial is a great ridgeline trail that takes you up into the clouds.

Waihee Ridge Trail - Maui, Hawaii Day 5
Its all up to krystal for activities on the rest of the trip, all the scheduled tours and events I planned have been done. Next episode is 13 crossings trail and a few waterfalls.
Stay Tuned, thanks for watching.
13 CROSSINGS Trail - Makamakaole Stream & Falls, West-MAUI, USA (4K)
Makamakaole stream on West Maui, Hawaii, can be found not far from Waihee. The trail, aka knows as 13 Crossings Trail is roughly 2 miles long, follows the river bed and is aptly named for you have to cross the stream bed repeatedly. At low water level, crossings posse no problems, however, since the possibility of rising water levels due to flash floods is ever present on Maui, care has to be taken none the less. Other than that this trail offers the chance to also walk through a bamboo forest, smaller but otherwise similar to the one you encounter on the Pipiway Trail on the east side of Maui. Like everywhere on Hawaiian islands, car break ins at the parking area seem to be a frequent occurrence. The trail, and even more so the parking area has, in the last years, become crowded.

WONDERFUL Waihee Ridge Trail Hike Maui Hawaii 2023
Absolutely beautiful trail and one of the best hikes I have ever done in Hawaii or anywhere else. The views are extremely beautiful! Unfortunately, we did the hike in running shoes that had no tread and the trail was very wet with occasional rain. I feel at least four times pretty hard, but no injuries. I would recommend wearing hiking boots or shoes, but definitely make this part of your to do list while in Maui!
