Moscow 🇷🇺 Street Walk 4K | Vozdvizhenka, Mokhovaya
Vozdvizhenka Street (in 1935-1946 - Kominterna Street; in 1946-1962 - Kalinina Street; from 1963 to the early 1990s - part of Kalinina Avenue) - a street in the Arbat district of the Central Administrative District of Moscow.
In the XIII-XIV centuries, on the site of modern Vozdvizhenka, the “Volotsk road” passed - a trade route from Veliky Novgorod through Volokolamsk to Moscow. Presumably, in 1367 a stone bridge was built on the road across the Neglinnaya River.
In documents of the 15th-16th centuries the street appeared under the name “Orbat” or “Arbatskaya Street”. According to a common version, this word meant “a suburb near the city”: the Kremlin territory was considered the city limits at that time.
Mokhovaya Street (1961-1990 - part of Marx Avenue) is a street in the center of Moscow. It starts from Znamenka Street, goes north, Vozdvizhenka and Bolshaya Nikitskaya streets depart from it to the left.
It received its name in the 18th century from the former Mokhovaya Square at the Trinity Gate of the Kremlin, to which it adjoined. According to other sources, the name is from the 17th century. In the old days, there was a shopping arcade here where they sold dry moss for sealing cracks in wooden houses, which is why the street began to be called Mokhovaya.

4K Russia 🇷🇺 Moscow center 🏙 walking tour 🚶🏼♂️ Mokhovaya - Okhotny Ryad - Theater Passage

02:17 Mokhovaya street
07:07 Okhotny Ryad
09:27 Theatre square

Mokhovaya (1961-1990 - part of Marx Avenue) - a street in the center of Moscow. The street originates from the Borovitskaya tower of the Kremlin, goes north, Tverskaya, Bolshaya Nikitskaya and Vozdvizhenka streets leave from it on the left. Ends at Manege Square. Continuation is Okhotny Ryad street. House numbers are from the Borovitskaya tower.
It was named in the XVIII century by the former Mokhovaya Square at the Trinity Gate of the Kremlin, to which it adjoined [1]. According to other sources - the name of the XVII century. In the old days, there was a shopping mall where they sold dry moss for filling up cracks in wooden houses, so the street was also called Mokhovoy. Moss playground was located on the site of the current building Manege
In 1961, the street was included in the avenue of Marx, along with Theater Passage, Okhotny Ryad and Moiseevskaya squares. In 1990, the street returned its historical name.
Okhotny Ryad Street (formerly Okhotnoryadskaya Square - Okhotny Ryad Square, 1961-1990 - part of Marx Avenue) - a street in the Central Administrative District of Moscow. It runs from Manezhnaya Square to Theater Square, lies between Georgievsky Lane and Nikolskaya Street parallel to them. House numbers are from Manezhnaya Square.
The name of the XVII century, is given according to one of the Moscow trade rows, in which it was allowed to trade game brought by hunters near Moscow.
Okhotny Ryad occupied a very modest place in the existing and becoming traditional by the 17th century device of the great Moscow bargaining. It traded in “game and live birds, domestic and singing” (V. I. Dahl). In the 17th century, Okhotny Ryad was located on the site of the current building of the Historical Museum. In the middle of the XVIII century, all food rows (Kharcheva, Obzhorny, Okhotny) were transferred beyond Neglinka - from the modern Manezhnaya Square to Theater Square, next to the Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Church.
After the fire of 1812, stone one-storey commercial premises with dozens of bird slaughterhouses are being built on the site of burnt wooden shops. The premises of the Okhotny Ryad itself were opposite the Noble Assembly, but over time the whole Zanegllin bargaining began to be called Okhotny Ryad.
In the second half of the 19 - early 20 centuries, the Okhotny Ryad began to symbolize the abundance, hospitality and satiety of Moscow, entering into Russian proverbs. However, due to the participation of shopkeepers in attacks on intellectuals and Jews, the image of a hunter as a reactionary and pogromist has developed.
In 1883, a cast-iron chapel of St. Alexander Nevsky was built on Moiseyevskaya Square in memory of the fallen in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. Demolished in early November 1922, the chapel became the first Moscow religious building destroyed by the Soviet regime.
In the 1920s, shops began to be demolished in Okhotny Ryad, in the 1930s trade was transferred to Tsvetnoy Boulevard, which marked the beginning of the Central Market. In 1928 the church of Paraskeva Fridays was demolished, a little later - the chambers of Golitsyn standing next to it. In 1935, Okhotny Ryad Street appeared on the site of the Okhotnoryadsky Square as a result of urban transformations. Also under it was the first metro line in the Soviet Union and the station of the same name appeared.
Theater Passage (1961-1990 - part of Marx Avenue) - a street in the Central Administrative District of Moscow. Passes from Theater Square to Lubyanka Square. House numbers are from Theater Square. The streets of Teatralny passage cross: on the left: Petrovka, Neglinnaya street, Rozhdestvenka; right: Tretyakov passage.
The name of the 19 century, is given in connection with the proximity to the Bolshoi and Maly theaters, a convenient route to which this street was.
The Neglinnaya River blocked the entrance to the Bolshoi and Maly theaters from the Lubyanka. The path opened in 1819 after the river was enclosed in a pipe. Since they didn’t go to the theater, but traveled, over time, somewhere in 1830, the entrance to the theaters was not called a street, but a passage.

Russia/Moscow (Arbat Street) Part 7
Welcome to my travelchannel. On my channel you can find almost 1000 films of more than 70 countries.
See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy!
Arbat Street mainly referred to in English as the Arbat, is a pedestrian street about one kilometer long in the historical centre of Moscow, Russia. The Arbat has existed since at least the 15th century, which makes it one of the oldest surviving streets of the Russian capital. It forms the heart of the Arbat District of Moscow. Originally the street formed part of an important trade-route and was home to a large number of craftsmen.
In the 18th century, the Russian nobility came to regard the Arbat as the most prestigious living area in Moscow. Almost completely destroyed by the great fire of 1812 associated with Napoleon's occupation of Moscow, the street required rebuilding. In the 19th and early 20th centuries it became known as the a place where petty nobility, artists, and academics lived. In the Soviet period, it housed many high-ranking government officials.
As of 2016, the street and its surroundings are undergoing gentrification, and it is considered a desirable place to live. Because of the many historic buildings, and due to the numerous artists who have lived and worked in the street, the Arbat has also become an important tourist attraction.
The Arbat is in the historic centre of Moscow. It begins at Arbatskaya square (Арбатская площадь), 800 metres west of the walls of the Moscow Kremlin. Arbatskaya square is also the meeting point of the Boulevard Ring and Vozdvizhenka Street (Улица Воздвиженка). The part of this square which is adjacent to the Arbat is called Arbat Gate (Арбатские Ворота), as it is the site of one of the ten gates of the old city wall. The wall, which was intact from the 16th to the 18th centuries, followed the path of the current Boulevard Ring. From this point the Arbat runs southwest, with a dozen side streets leading off, and ends at Smolenskaya Square (Смоленская площадь), which intersects with the Garden Ring. Continuing on from the Arbat in a westerly direction is the eight-lane Smolenskaya Street (Смоленская улица). This street changes its name several times within the city limits, ultimately crossing the MKAD ring road, and becoming the M1 highway to Smolensk, Minsk and Warsaw.
Arbat Square. Right: The chapel of Boris and Gleb, built 1997. Left: The entrance Arbatskaya Metro Station.
Until the middle of the 20th century, the Arbat remained part of the main road from the Moscow Kremlin westwards. In the 1960s a parallel road, the New Arbat (Новый Арбат) was built, and took on this function. The New Arbat with its wide sidewalks and 1960s tower blocks has no sidestreets. Two decades later the Arbat was made into the first pedestrian zone in Moscow. In order to avoid confusion with the New Arbat, people began to refer to the Arbat as the Old Arbat (Старый Арбат). Since 1986, the Arbat has been dotted with distinctive street lanterns. It has several notable statues, including one to Princess Turandot in front of the Vakhtangov Theatre, and another to Soviet-era folk singer, bard and poet Bulat Okudzhava, who wrote several poignant songs about the Arbat. Arbat is home to the headquarters of oil company TNK-BP - a modern building at the beginning of the street. It also contains numerous restaurants, including The Hard Rock Cafe. Most of these restaurants are geared towards visitors to Moscow and are considered by many residents to be over-priced and of low quality compared to those in other parts of the city. There are also a few restaurants and cafes that cater to the working population and middle class; these include Kruzhka, Praim, and Mu-Mu's.

A Taste of Kyiv, Ukraine - Best City to Visit in Europe | Cinematic Video
Kyiv (Kiev) is underrated. The capital of Ukraine should be on par with Rome, Paris and London. Kyiv is a beautiful destination high on interest, but in comparison to those mentioned; non touristy. Adding friendly people, delicious food, grand architecture, great weather, inexpensive... If you ever plan to visit Europe, then Kyiv should be on your list.
Kyiv exceeded my expectations big time. I rank the capital city of Ukraine as my favorite destination on my recent trip through parts of Central, Eastern and Southern Europe.
