Utrecht is a central Dutch city with a long history. It's hard not to fall in love with Utrecht, one of the Netherlands' oldest urban centres and for centuries its religious heart. Now a vibrant university city, the compact medieval core radiates out from the iconic 15th-century Domtoren, ringed by a loop of very pretty tree-lined canals. Their central sections have distinctive double-level sides inset with what were once medieval warehouses – many now forming fascinating venues to eat, drink, dance or sleep, with terrace-walkways that extend right to the waterside. The brilliant cafe culture goes well beyond the canals – Utrecht's vibrant concert schedules are a big draw and, if the budget stretches, it's worth luxuriating in one of numerous historic mansions that have been turned into indulgent boutique hotels.
The history of the city goes back to 47 AD when the Roman emperor Claudius ordered his general Corbulo to build a defensive line along the river Rhine which was the northern most border of the empire. One of the strongholds (or Castella) along the river was built at a crossing in the river and was called Traiectum (which means crossingplace). In the local language this became Trecht, Uut-Trecht (lower-Trecht) and later Utrecht. On the place where once the castellum stood now stands the Domchurch built in the 13th century.
Walking is the easiest way to travel in the city of Utrecht. The centre is very compact compared to the other large Dutch cities, with almost all points of interest being within walking distance to each other (the only major exception being the Rietveld-Schröder house). To use the public transportation in the Netherlands, it is recommended to buy an OV-chipcard. There is no separate OV-chipkaart for tourists. As a tourist you will purchase an anonymous OV-chipkaart or a disposable OV-chipkaart. You will purchase either card at the counter for a public transport company, the device at the station, at a newsagent or at a supermarket. The OV chipcard is valid for bus, train and tram and works like a debit card that you must first charge with an amount.
The city of Utrecht is subdivided into 10 city quarters, all of which have their own neighbourhood council and service centre for civil affairs.

Utrecht's cityscape is dominated by the Dom Tower, the tallest belfry in the Netherlands and originally part of the Cathedral of Saint Martin. An ongoing debate is over whether any building in or near the centre of town should surpass the Dom Tower in height (112 m (367 ft)). Nevertheless, some tall buildings are now being constructed that will become part of the skyline of Utrecht.
Another landmark is the old centre and the canal structure in the inner city. The Oudegracht is a curved canal, partly following the ancient main branch of the Rhine. It is lined with the unique wharf-basement structures that create a two-level street along the canals. Due to the past importance of Utrecht as a religious centre, several monumental churches were erected, many of which have survived. Most prominent is the Dom Church. Other notable churches include the romanesque St Peter's and St John's churches; the gothic churches of St James and St Nicholas; and the Buurkerk, now converted into a museum for automatically playing musical instruments.
Utrecht's Centraal Museum focuses on local art, fashion and history. Mechanical musical instruments are on show at the Speelklok. TivoliVredenburg is a modern music venue with 5 separate auditoriums. The 1924 Rietveld Schroder House exhibits the De Stijl movement's trademark primary colors and asymmetrical, blocky forms. The split-level promenade beside the Oudegracht canal has cafes and shops within former wharf buildings. Canal tours can be made by bicycle, kayak or motor boat. Just outside town, Kasteel de Haar is a fairy-tale castle in a landscaped park.
( Utrecht - Netherlands ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Utrecht . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Utrecht - Netherlands

Bezocht in februari 2021.
The Vleuten-Themaat district is located in the former municipality of Vleuten, now part of Utrecht Leidsche Rijn. The name refers to an old hamlet that used to be here. The district is spacious with lots of greenery and water and beautiful houses. The Themater fields, which border the Haarrijnse lake, are part of the district. A beautiful nature reserve, even in winter (a bit soggy).

DE HAAR CASTLE IN UTRECHT 🇳🇱 | THE LARGEST CASTLE IN THE NETHERLANDS
Castle De Haar may look Medieval, but was actually built in the early twentieth century. The famous Dutch architect Pierre Cuypers built it between 1892 and 1912 on the ruins of the old, derelict castle that stood there, on commission from Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt. In the 60s, it became a place where the Van Zuylen van Nijevelt family received the international jet set, from Brigitte Bardot and Coco Chanel to Maria Callas and Roger Moore. A visit to Castle De Haar feels like a trip back in time to the glory days of the twentieth century.
¡¡Muchísimas gracias a tod@s!! ❤️

4K Utrecht ,The Netherlands, city Walk 2023
Utrecht is the fourth-largest city of the Netherlands, as well as the capital and the most populous city of the province of Utrecht. The municipality of Utrecht is located in the eastern part of the Randstad conurbation, in the very centre of mainland Netherlands, and includes Haarzuilens, Vleuten en De Meern. It has a population of 361,699 as of December 2021.
Utrecht's ancient city centre features many buildings and structures, several dating as far back as the High Middle Ages. It has been the religious centre of the Netherlands since the 8th century. In 1579, the Union of Utrecht was signed in the city to lay the foundations for the Dutch Republic. Utrecht was the most important city in the Netherlands until the Dutch Golden Age, when it was surpassed by Amsterdam as the country's cultural centre and most populous city.
Utrecht is home to Utrecht University, the largest university in the Netherlands, as well as several other institutions of higher education. Due to its central position within the country, it is an important hub for both rail and road transport; it has the busiest train station in the Netherlands, Utrecht Centraal. It has the second-highest number of cultural events in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam. In 2012, Lonely Planet included Utrecht in the top 10 of the world's unsung places.

ABOUT ME
Hello there! My name is Daniella Perera and I’m an artist and vlogger based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I grew up in Hong Kong and the UK, and I’m of mixed heritage including Chinese, Sri-Lankan, Dutch and Portuguese.
Near the end of 2020, I moved from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam with my husband. I have since fallen in love with this city, and I make YouTube videos (every other weekend) about things to do in Amsterdam and tips to settle in faster. The idea behind 'Pocket Lighthouse' was to shine a light on the above topics, and for this information to be accessible on the go.
One of my long-term goals is to use my creativity (whether that be through art or video) to regularly support organisations helping strays and shelter dogs. Needless to say I absolutely adore dogs.

North Holland, Netherlands | City of Haarlem, Alkmaar, Hilversum | Drone 4k video | North Holland
North Holland, Netherlands. This video review tells about the developed province of the Netherlands - North Holland. The video was filmed using a drone so that viewers can see the ancient architecture of the Middle Ages and the picturesque beauties of the surrounding nature from a bird's eye view, made in 4k resolution.
general information
North Holland is a province of the Netherlands, located in the west of the country. It lies on a wide peninsula between the North Sea and the Waldensian Sea and the IJsellmeer and Markermeer lakes.
Capital
Despite the fact that the large city of Amsterdam is located on the territory of the province, Haarlem is the administrative center.
Nature
The landscape of the province is more flat, combining fields and wide forests. You can appreciate the picturesque landscapes in the Texel Dunes and Zuid-Kennemerland National Parks. It is here that you can enjoy beautiful places: lakes, forests and glades.
Main cities: Haarlem, Alkmaar, Hilversum
Haarlem stretches along the Sparna River, 20 km from Amsterdam. The city is the main exporter of tulips, and attracts tourists with its charming historical center, as well as an abundance of various shops. Haarlem is simply a Mecca for shopping lovers.
Alkmaar is a small town with a center reminiscent of the stone Middle Ages (in its architecture, of course), a myriad of canals and narrow streets. Despite the fact that the main source of income for the city is tourism, it is difficult to call it provincial, since the city's industry is extensive and successful. But still, life here is slow and measured.
Hilversum is the Dutch center for radio and television broadcasting. The city is notable for its modern architecture, built in the first half of the last century, which blends harmoniously with the nearby forests and natural areas.
What to see
The Zaanse Schans is a large historical reserve located 15 km from Amsterdam. On its territory, ancient buildings of the 17th-18th centuries have gathered, including the famous windmills, which are available for visiting. A sightseeing can also be arranged by taking a river trip along the Zaan River that flows there.
Amsterdam is largely known for its lively nightlife. The Leidseplein is home to restaurants, bars, casinos and itinerant artists.
In general, you can explore Amsterdam not only on foot, but also by taking a boat ride through the city's canals. The walk will be especially spectacular in the evening, when the city is immersed in lights.
Alkmaar is the cheese capital of the country. Traditional Dutch varieties Gouda and Edam are produced here. In the center is the Cheese Museum, which will be of interest to both adults and children. Here they tell about the history of local cheese making, and children will be fascinated by the cheese quest.
Art can be enjoyed in one of the largest art museums in the world, the Rijksmuseum. Works by local masters are exhibited here: Vermeer, Rembrandt, Van Gogh and others.
In Amsterdam, there is the Rembrandt House Museum, in which the artist not only lived his best years, but also created many of his masterpieces.
Attractions
Dam Square in Amsterdam is full of attractions. The apogee of interest is the Royal Palace, where the royal family lived in the 17th century. Nearby you can find the New Church, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, as well as a monument in honor of the soldiers who died in World War II.
In Amsterdam, you can also find the Hermitage on the Amstel. This is a branch of the St. Petersburg Hermitage, but the expositions there are updated regularly. This is a kind of tribute to the friendly relations between Russia and the Netherlands in the 17th and 18th centuries, when Peter the Great studied shipbuilding with local craftsmen.
The historic center of Haarlem is centered around the Grotemarkt, a square on which a hunting castle was located in the 12th century, and knightly tournaments were also held. Nearby is the main church of the city - De Grote St. Bavokerk, built in the early 16th century. you can also visit the Meat Rows - Fleishal, which has existed since the 17th century. surprisingly, then the building was considered ugly, as it did not fit into the general architecture, but now it is difficult to imagine visiting the capital without seeing it.
