The boulevards of Tra Vinh, one of the prettiest towns in the Mekong Delta, are still lined with shady trees, harking back to an earlier era. With more than 140 Khmer pagodas dotting the province, Tra Vinh is a quiet place for exploring the Mekong’s little-touted Cambodian connection. The town itself sees a little more tourist traffic now that it's linked to Ben Tre and beyond by large bridges.
About 300,000 ethnic Khmer live in Tra Vinh province. They may seem an invisible minority as they all speak fluent Vietnamese and there’s nothing outwardly distinguishing about their clothing or lifestyle. Dig a bit deeper and discover that Khmer culture is alive and well in these parts of Vietnam.
There is also a small but active Chinese community in Tra Vinh, one of the few such communities that remain in the Mekong Delta region.
Tra Vinh City is 66km from Vinh Long, 205km from Ho Chi Minh City, 110km from Ben Tre, My Tho. There are National Highways No.53, 54, 60 linking the districts of Tra Vinh and neighbor provinces.

Trà Vinh là thành phố tỉnh lỵ của tỉnh Trà Vinh, Việt Nam. Thành phố Trà Vinh nằm bên bờ sông Tiền, trên Quốc lộ 53 và cách Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh khoảng 202 km và cách thành phố Cần Thơ 100 km, cách bờ biển Đông 40 km, với hệ thống giao thông đường bộ và đường thủy khá hoàn chỉnh thuận tiện để phát triển kinh tế, văn hóa - xã hội với các tỉnh đồng bằng sông Cửu Long và là vùng kinh tế trọng điểm của tỉnh.

Trà Vinh là tỉnh có tỷ lệ đồng bào dân tộc Khmer chiếm khoảng 30% dân số và có nhiều ngôi “chùa tháp” nhất Việt Nam (141 ngôi chùa) với trên 3.000 nhà sư đang tu học và hành đạo.
Chùa Hang, nơi có hơn 300 trăm tác phẩm gỗ điêu khắc độc đáo, thu hút đông đảo khách tham quan hàng năm.
Hệ thống chùa Khmer ở ĐBSCL khá dày đặc, nhất là ở tỉnh Trà Vinh. Có những ngôi chùa được xây dựng từ trước thế kỷ 16, nhưng cũng có ngôi chùa mới xây dựng hoặc trùng tu trong thế kỷ 19, 20. Hệ thống chùa ở Trà Vinh tỏa khắp về các hướng: chùa Âng, Bến Có, Bình Phú, Ba Si, Ba Se... Hướng về Cầu Ngang, Duyên Hải có: chùa Chồm Hổm, Đầu Bờ Kỳ La, Quy Nông, chùa Ô. Hướng tây nam về hai huyện Châu Thành và Trà Cú, có: chùa Mặc Dồn, chùa Hang, Đa Lộc... và ngay trung tâm thành phố có: Chùa Chim, chùa Ông Mẹt, chùa Phướng, chùa Tri Tân,...
Chùa Khmer ở Trà Vinh thờ Phật theo Hệ phái Phật giáo Nam tông. Theo quan niệm của người Khmer thì ngoài việc tu hành, chùa còn gắn với mọi sinh hoạt của Phật tử và cộng đồng các dân tộc anh em cộng cư sinh sống trên vùng đất này. Ngoài việc học đạo, học chữ, cúng bái dịp lễ, tết cho đến sinh hoạt văn hóa thôn, xóm... chùa còn là nơi an vị xương cốt cho người đã khuất.
Trà vinh có rất nhiều ngôi chùa cổ mà du khách không thể bỏ qua, như: chùa Âng (xây dựng từ thế kỷ 10 và trùng tu năm 1842) là một trong những ngôi chùa có lối kiến trúc khá độc đáo. Chùa được 12 cây cột tròn bằng gỗ quý sơn son thiếp vàng nâng đỡ, trên từng cột có chạm khắc hình tiên nữ Kino, chim thần Krut. Chính điện thờ tượng Phật tạc bằng đá trên 150 năm, tượng cao 2,1mét và hơn 50 tượng Phật lớn nhỏ. Năm 1990, chùa được Bộ VH -TT (nay là Bộ VH-TT&DL) công nhận là di tích kiến trúc nghệ thuật cấp Quốc gia. Chùa Nôdol (chùa Cò) thuộc ấp Giồng Lớn, xã Đại An, huyện Trà Cú (xây dựng từ năm 1677). Ngoài ra còn rất nhiều ngôi chùa nổi tiếng khác, như chùa Ông Mẹt (Phường 1), chùa Wat SamRong Ek (Phường 8), Sampuransi ở huyện Cầu Kè, chùa Kompong Chrây (chùa Hang, huyện Châu Thành)... Chùa Khmer ở Trà Vinh là sự kết hợp chặt chẽ về kiến trúc của Phật giáo, Bà La Môn và tín ngưỡng bản địa. Chính điều đó đã làm nên một vẻ đẹp rực rỡ cho văn hóa Khmer Nam Bộ, cần được bảo tồn và phát huy.

Apart from the amazing landscape, beautiful beaches, ancient temples and the opportunity to learn the culture of the locals, the Vietnamese markets are a must see for tourists. Here is a list of the top ten best markets to visit when you are in Vietnam.
Bac Ha Market is a popular cultural market, hidden away among the mountains in North Vietnam in the city of Lao Cai. Here, tourists can buy locally made products such as bags, scarves, shawls, and much more. There are several hotels in the market too that serve local cuisines.
Ho Thi Ky flower night market. Do you like flowers? Well, at Ho Thi Ky flower market you can find almost any type of flower that grows in Vietnam. The market is usually open every day and night. People like visiting the market in the afternoon when there are fewer people around.
Ha Long night market is the best place to go for souvenirs and gift shopping. It is located near Bai Chay beach. Besides buying souvenirs, you can also get a taste of the local cuisine. The market is open every day from 6 pm to midnight.
Ben Thanh Market is one of the most popular markets among tourists as well as locals. Here you can buy everything, from fresh fruits and vegetables to hand made souvenirs. However, you need to have good bargaining skills if you want to buy from this market. Most traders sell their wares rather more expensive than other markets in the city.
Binh Tay Market, also known as Cho Lon, is popular among the locals since it serves most of their daily needs. Here you can find mostly fresh vegetables and fruits, seafood, and even poultry.
Hoi An Night Market. Even though it is famous for its colorful lanterns and hand made products, Hoi An Night Market is also popular for its food stalls which sell local dishes. The market is usually open every day from afternoon to midnight
Dong Xuan Market is the oldest and the largest indoor market in Hanoi city. You can buy almost anything at this market from fresh fruits and vegetables to household electronics. Visitors can also sample the local dishes at food stalls located around the market.
Ha Tien Night market is popular among the locals and tourists alike. Here, you can sample the local dishes.
Tay do market is one of the most popular markets in Vietnam. You can find anything from souvenirs, fresh fruits, vegetables, and even flowers. Tourists also have the opportunity to sample local dishes like seafood, rice cake and many more. Apart from shopping tourists can entertain themselves by taking a boat ride along the river or engaging in electronic games or even dance to local music.
The Old quarter Night market is one of the largest and popular markets in Hanoi city. During night markets, cars are not allowed through the street and they are replaced by hundreds of stalls, traders and buyers. At the market, you can buy souvenirs, fresh fruit, and vegetables. There are also stalls that sell local food and snacks. On Sundays, there are live performances from local bands.
Vietnamese markets are popular worldwide. To ensure that you enjoy the market, it is always better to go there early when there are fewer people and it’s not too hot. Also, be careful with your wallet or purse since most of the above markets are hot spots for pickpockets.

Van Thanh Mieu is a majestic architecture worshipping Confucius. It’s one of the three best Van Thanh Mieu temples constructed in the 19th century in southern Vietnam. It has been renovated several times but the temple remains its old architecture.
Van Thanh Mieu Temple in Vinh Long was established in 1864 and the construction was finished by the end of 1866. This followed the initiative of a mandarin of the Nguyen Dynasty, Phan Thanh Gian, who used to be the education officer of Vinh Long in 1862. The temple is situated on a giant land, on the banks of Long Ho River in Ward 4.
(Phan Thanh Gian Temple; Ð Tran Phu; 5-11am & 1-7pm) Confucian temples such as this are rare in southern Vietnam. The front hall honours local hero Phan Thanh Gian, who led an uprising against the French colonists in 1930. When it became clear that his revolt was doomed, Phan killed himself rather than be captured by the colonial army. The rear hall, built in 1866, has a portrait of Confucius above the altar.

Exploring Vinh city. Where is the citadel? Day 4 part#2
So, in the afternoon of the 4th day of my motorbike road trip From Hanoi to Danang (and Hoi-An), I arrived in the city of Vinh. The weather is not good, drizzle and fog, and the visibility is bad. Not much to do in Vinh, but I heard about the remains of Vinh citadel, and so I go to search for them. I find the first gate and go around the mote to find the other 2 gates.
In the next day I stumbled upon a huge square with a statue of Ho Chi Minh, which only made sense, since Vinh is his hometown, and that was it with Vinh city.
