La Guama Volunteer Trip, Dominican Republic.
This is a video of my volunteering trip to a small town La Guama, which is about a 4-hour bus ride from the city of Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic. It was through an organization called Bridges To Community, and if you're thinking of getting involved, I highly recommend them. I randomly decided to take my GoPro to see if I can capture some of the footage; I am glad that I did. The bond between the community and us that developed over the next week was something extraordinary that will stay with me for a lifetime.

Las Marías es el balneario más frecuentado por los lugareños en el municipio de Neyba, que tiene una superficie de 624 m2, con una profundidad que oscila entre los 0,5 y los 4,5 m.
Debido a las aguas cristalinas, que provienen de la fuente natural de agua dulce, tanto residentes de las cercanías como turistas deciden refrescarse en las frescas aguas y disfrutar del ambiente acogedor y familiar del balneario, y de sus preciosos alrededores cubiertos de verde vegetación tropical.
En Las Marías podrás encontrar un bar para degustar la gastronomía local, o aprovechar los puestos de venta de comida en los que se pueden probar las famosas tilapias propias de la gastronomía local.

El proyecto busca rescatar la intersección de la Duarte con París, que actualmente está ocupada por buhoneros.
La labor se realizará junto a un equipo integrado por la Alcaldía del Distrito Nacional, Policía, Ministerio de Defensa y Migración, para reordenar y devolverle la acera al peatón, reorganizar el tránsito vehicular y el transporte público con nuevo arbolado urbano e iluminación vial y señalizaciones necesarias.
En la primera etapa la intervención abarcará dos manzanas de la avenida París y el entorno de incidencia de la Duarte.
«Este proyecto con la formalización de nuevos módulos comerciales para los buhoneros ubicados en el área de esta primera fase, la cual contempla también remozamiento de aceras, contenes, drenaje pluvial, soterramiento de cables e iluminicación», indica un comunicado.
Según la Asociación de Buhoneros del Distrito Nacional, en la Duarte con París y zonas cercanas, laboran unos 700 de 2,600 vendedores registrados en el Distrito Nacional, por lo que el impacto será de mucha importancia.
