welcome back to our channel, This is the 6th video of our Palnadu vlog series. In this video you will see a very beautiful location called 'Anupu' which is just 6km away from Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.
Anupu is a village located around 20km from the town of Macherla, A Budhist archeological monumental site that is considered as one of the finest places to find remnants of the Buddhist monasteries and has a university that thrived under Acharya Nagarjuna.
These ruins were originally located in the Krishna Valley and were under the danger of being submerged when the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam was built in the 1960s. ASI carefully removed the ruins and reconstructed them at Anupu and some more at Nagarjuna Konda.
This place is also known for its natural beauty of river Krishna surrounded by mighty hills and a lot boats sailing on it. This place provides a perfect weekend destination along with Nagarjuna Sagar Dam which is quite near.

Nagarjunakonda (meaning Nagarjuna Hill) is a historical Buddhist town, now an island located near Nagarjuna Sagar in Guntur district,[1][2] Andhra Pradesh, India. It is 180 km west side of the state capital, Vijayawada. It is one of India's richest Buddhist sites, known in the ancient times as Sri Parvata. It now lies almost entirely under the Nagarjunasagar Dam.

Thousands of tourists visit Nagarjunasagar when the dam gates are open in monsoon season (around September / October). There are several other places around Nagarjunasagar that can be visited as a one-day trip from Hyderabad.
A site to behold when its gates are opened during peak flood season in Monsoon, Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is considered one of largest dams built in the recent times in Asia. As the tallest masonry dam, Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is also the pride of India. The project has catchment area of roughly 215000 sq.km. The project also boasts of the largest canal system network in India .The mighty dam was completed in the year 1969 and has a majestic height of 124 meters. It is 1 km long, and has 26 crest gates. The dam can store upto 11, 472 million cubic meters of water in the reservoir.
A beautiful landscape and strikingly scenic water body adds beauty to the impressive structure. The turbines for power generation are located towards Nalgonda (Telangana) district. The dam derives its name from a nearby hillock and island called Nagarjunakonda, where an ancient Buddhist Guru had once lived. There is a famous and well-maintained museum here that houses ancient artifacts. Apart from the lake where regular boating facilities are provided, tourists can also visit other attractions such as Ethipothala waterfalls, and Srisailam Wildlife Reserve close by. The dam was envisioned to be a temple of modern India, according to India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Apart from meeting drinking water needs, irrigation and power requirements, the dam is an attractive tourist destination owing to the large reservoir, the mighty flow when the crest gates are open present a panoramic view which enthralls tourists. Hyderabad is the nearest airport, which takes you to Nagarjuna Sagar Dam.
Nagarjunakonda Museum is situated in the island of Nagarjunakonda that is situated in the midst of the man-made Nagarjunasagar Lake. It is a Buddhist Museum that is known to have a wide collection of Buddhist structures and relics, which were excavated during the construction of the dam. The collection dates back to the 3rd century and can be reached by boat from Nagarjunasagar or Vijayapuri.

Bara Kaman
Bara Kaman in literal sense means “twelve arches.”
Bara Kaman is the unfinished tomb of Mohd Ali Adil Shah II, who was the son of Mohd Adil Shah, who built the Gol Gumbaz.
Ali Adil Shah wanted to build a tomb of unmatched architectural quality. It was planned that twelve arches would be placed vertically as well as horizontally surrounding the tomb, but for unknown reasons the work on the structure was left incomplete but the remains of the twelve horizontally placed arches can still be seen today at the site.
There is a rumor that sultan Ali Adil Shah wanted to construct a tomb for himself which was more beautiful and larger than Gol Gumbaz, but his father feared that this construction would shadow the beauty of Gol Gumbaz and killed his son Adil Shah and the construction of this structure remained incompleted.
another rumor is that the construction of the tomb was stopped because once completed its shadow would fall the Gol Gumbaz.
Though incomplete, Bara Kaman houses the tombs of Ali Adil Shah II, his wife Chandi Bibi and his daughters.

A Ranganatha Swamy Temple near Anupu archaeological site at Buddhist University Complex.
The temple is ancient with lot of modern touches, nevertheless, its has a history. The temple has ample space around it and well maintained. A cement tank with clean water.
The premises consist of a temple, a mantapa, Neem tree, a storage room, temple office and Lord Anjaneya statue. It was silent, except the sound of broom scraping on the floor nearby.
Ranganadha Swami Temple History - Nagarjuna valley known as Vijayapuri during century AD. Ikshvaku period was threatened with toal submergence by a huge lake having more than a depth of 300 feet when work on Nagarjuna Dam was proposed in the year 1954. The archaeological excavations were taken up to extent possible the historical ruins under the direction of Dr. Subramanyam in the vast area of 3700 acres. Exposing 127 sites in addition to prehistoric artifacts from stone age levels to megalithic burials. 10 of the exposed sites were transplanted on Nagarjuna Konda which is an island in the huge lake. But Shri Ranganadha appearing as Divine-Light in the dream of Shri Subramanyam asked the salvage of the temple which housed an human. Also Shri Guru Shankracharya and Sekharendra Saraswati of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham also persuaded Dr. Subramanyam to save the temple. Consequently Ranganadha temple was reconstructed on the right bank of the 1½ mile stone on Macherla-Nagarjunakonda road by Dr. Subramanyam with the help and assistance of his staff.
The temple was consecrated by Subramanyam along with his wife Smt. Saraswati while Sri Tangirla Subramanyam Sastri chanted the Agama Slokas. Kumbhabishekam was performed in the presence of devotees on 15-05-1957.
History - Manumasiddhi the Telugu-Choda ruler of Nellore (historically known as Vikrama Simhapuri) was dethroned around 1250 AD by his cousins conspiring with Jala Varma Pandya. He found refuge in the Nallamala forests near Macherla for some time, when he constructed the Sri Devi Sahita Ranganadha temple in Nagarjuna Konda. The son Kommana Danda Natha Kavi Brahma Tikkanna could secure the help of Kakatiya monarch Ganapathi Deva to install Manumasiddhi again as the king Nellore prior to 1263 AD.
