Holland America New York Pizza, Dive In Cafe, Afternoon Tea & Late Night Buffet on Veendam (4K)

See what Holland America cruise line has to offer, including menus, when it comes to snacks to satisfy the afternoon & late night hunger of vacationers! Afternoon tea at 3 PM on sea days was pretty good with tasty sweets, including a scone with orange marmalade. New York Pizza is also an option until 5 PM, with our favorite being the Finoccio pizza by famed chef Elizabeth Faulkner. Also on the pool deck is a Mexican Food station that seems to be new. Dive In Cafe is our favorite- with delicious burgers, including vegetarian options. The portabella mushroom burger is spectacular, and so are are the hot dogs there. The fries are the BEST we have ever tasted at sea.

At the nearby Lido Market buffet, despite lunch closing at around 1:30 PM, Holland America offers some snack there throughout the afternoon as well. The salad station is open, and some sandwiches are available for guests, including a station that serves tasty real ice scream.

Dinner buffet closes at a relatively early 8 PM, but HAL does open a late night buffet that goes from 10:30 PM to 11:30 PM. We show the sample menu & some sample food here as well.

Holland America ship MS Veendam goes to nice destinations and different ports around the world, compared to many of the popular cruise lines.

Veendam Virtual Ship Tour

- Dedicated in 1996 and refitted in 2009, MS Veerdam measures 57,092 GT and carries 1,350 passengers. During the extensive refit, two decks of balcony cabins were added to the rear of the ship, the rear pool area was restyled with a new pool, and a new duck-tail stern was fitted. Holland America Line's Signature of Excellence initiative for this ship focuses on five areas: space and elegance; sophisticated dining; gracious, unobtrusive service; extensive enrichment programs; and interesting destinations. It has plenty of places on deck for solitude, and inside an extensive library, a $2 million art collection, and impressive three-deck atrium. Enrichment and entertainment by day include its demo kitchen and wine tasting, and a favourite focal point is the Explorations Cafe. The Microsoft Digital workshops that will teach you to make a DVD of your trip or create your own web page or blog. Evening entertainment includes eight bars, a disco, and the Showroom at Sea featuring talented performers from Broadway. A wide variety of shore excursions can be booked for reasonable costs (but book early). Fitness activities include two pools, two hot tubs, courts, jogging course, and of course Spa and Salon treatments. Club HAL caters for 3 to 12 year olds, and The Loft and The Oasis for teens. Expect a mix of seniors, older couples and multi-generational families, and come dress-prepared for formal nights' dining and dancing.

Holland America ms Veendam Tour, Food & Entertainment (4K)

See what is it like aboard the Holland America Veendam cruise ship, including what entertainment & food to expect, including menus. We were on the Veendam in July 2018 for a 14 night Cuba cruise sailing out of Boston.

The staff was friendly, especially at the dining room. The food was pretty good, though the buffet was just a bit inferior to our other Holland America cruises (on the ms Amsterdam & Eurodam). The buffet offerings were still very enjoyable, however. Food at the main dining room was excellent, and the Dive In Cafe on this ship tasted even better than our other pair of HAL cruises. We did have some service issues at the pool deck when eating at the Dive In there- asked the roaming bartender there for water (there was no water nearby), and she was very hesitant, then said she would bring it, and never did.

Entertainment was pretty solid- the singers & dancers had good performances, and the guest entertainers were pretty funny. It is certainly not a party ship, however. Activities-wise we enjoyed Ping Pong & playing some tennis (this is one of the few cruise ships out there with a Tennis Court).

The Veendam is showing her age a bit. On a couple occasions there were AC issues at the Lido Market buffet, and at some point there was condensation at the ceiling there. The shower at our cabin had trouble keeping a constant temperature. The ship's internet was extremely slow and expensive- to avoid frustration we'd recommend avoiding buying an internet package on the Veendam unless they have upgraded the service. Also if you are someone who likes to sleep in- it could be difficult as loud announcements from the cruise director are broadcast through hallway ceiling speakers as early as 8 AM at times.

Like other older HAL cruise ships, it was nice that the Veendam also has self-service laundry facilities ($1 for the washer, $2 for dryer).

The Holland America Veendam review verdict- we enjoyed our cruise overall, despite some of the issues we mentioned, and would certainly recommend to others.

Volendam'da Sokakları Arşınlayıp Edam'da Peynir Tuzağına Düştük (Hollanda)

Amsterdam yakınlarındaki iki küçük yerleşim yeri Volendam ve Edam. Dar sokakları tarihi dokusu, lezzetli peynirleri ve bol bol turist tuzağı dolu bu iki kasabadan hallice şehri biz çok sevdik. Buralar o kadar ufak yerler ki bir tren istasyonları bile yok. Bu nedenle Amsterdam'dan otobüs ile önce Volendam'a, Volendam'dan da Edam'a geçtik.

Volendam, tam Kuzey Avrupa filmlerindeki balıkçı kasabalarını andıran bir yer. Edam'da ise sanki zaman 17. yüzyılda durmuş gibi.

Pandemi öncesi son yurtdışı seyahatimiz olan Hollanda gezimiz sezon dışı gerçekleştiği için ziyaret etmek istediğimiz birçok müzeye ve turistik yere giremedik. Yine de çok keyifli anlar yaşadık. İki şehirde de sağınızda solunuzda bol bol hediye dükkânları ve Hollanda'ya özgü turist tuzakları mevcut. Çoğundan kaçınmayı başardık ama birine düşüp Edam'ın meşhur peynirinden satın aldık. Pişman değiliz :)
