Sandusky is an Ohio city on the shores of Lake Erie. It’s known for its family attractions, including water, wildlife and amusement parks. Sprawling Cedar Point park is renowned for its many roller coasters. The Merry-Go-Round Museum features a working vintage carousel and restored wooden animals. The Maritime Museum of Sandusky has exhibits on boatbuilding, shipwrecks and ice harvesting.
Let's Visit Sandusky, OH
In this video, I head over to downtown Sandusky, OH to look around the downtown area. The video includes the Erie County Courthouse as well as some of the holiday decorations along US 6 (as this was recorded 2 days before Christmas).
Later in the video I head over to Battery Park where I get a good view of Sandusky Bay and Cedar Point, home to the Cedar Point Amusement Park. The amusement park is open from the late spring to about Labor Day, and then weekends until Halloween.

edar Point is a 364-acre (147 ha) amusement park located on a Lake Erie peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio, United States. Opened in 1870, it is considered the second-oldest operating amusement park in the U.S. behind Lake Compounce. Cedar Point is owned and operated by Cedar Fair and is the flagship of the amusement park chain. Known as America's Roller Coast, the park features 15 roller coasters – fourth-most in the world with behind Canada's Wonderland (18), as well as Six Flags Magic Mountain and Energylandia (20). Cedar Point's most recent roller coaster, Steel Vengeance, opened to the public on May 5, 2018.

Indian Mill (Upper Sandusky)
The original mills were built by the U.S. Government as a perk for the Wyandot Indians. The mill standing today was built in 1867 and now serves as the nation's first museum of milling. Located along the Sandusky River in Wyandot County it's a scenic trip worth taking. (Video recorded August 2014 and July 2015)

The miller’s office tells the story of milling from ancient times to the present. Average visit time: Allow 1+ hours
History
When the War of 1812 ended, members of the Wyandotte tribe settled near modern-day Upper Sandusky. Along with them was a group of African Americans—both free blacks and fugitives from slavery—who also settled nearby. The Wyandottes, who'd always been farmers, worked with the African Americans, and the African Americans in turn worked with them. Part of this intermingling led to some of the Wyandottes accepting Christianity and forsaking their customs. This in turn led to limited perks granted by the government, including federal money to build a mill.
In 1820, a flour mill and sawmill were both constructed on the banks of the Sandusky River. These mills provided important services for the Wyandotte farmers as well as the African Americans living in the area. They were able to process their harvests and turn logs into timber to build their homes. However, under pressure from many white settlers who lived in the area surrounding the Wyandotte reservation, the federal government decided to permanently move the Wyandottes out of Ohio. Several years later, the last of the Wyandottes left the area.
The mills fell into disrepair and were abandoned. Some years later, the flour mill was rebuilt on the present site by Lewis Rummel, who used three water-powered turbines made by The James Leffel & Co. of Springfield, Ohio, in his new mill. The mill has been owned by various people over the years and was purchased by the Ohio History Connection in 1968.
Indian Mill is managed locally by the Wyandot County Archaeological & Historical Society.

Sandusky Ohio
Getting to know Sandusky, Ohio before summer season opened on Memorial Day Weekend meant a focus on downtown and the waterfront, with a quick look around Cedar Point as the rides were being tested and lodgings being freshened for visitors. We stayed two nights at the Kalahari Resort, which although it's a mecca for families, gave us some cozy corners and a big convention center in which to enjoy the African art imported by the owners. Our visit wrapped up with breakfast in Bay View, passing by Ohio's Original Margaritaville - no ties to Jimmy Buffet - on the way.

Indian Mill Upper Sandusky, Ohio HD
A tour around the outside of Indian Mill near Upper Sandusky site of the last Wyndot indian reservation in Ohio.The restored three-story structure replaces the original one-story building that the U. S. government built in 1820 to reward the loyalty of local Wyandot Indians during the War of 1812. Many exhibits are placed around the original mill machinery.
Historic Wyandot Indian Mission Church (Upper Sandusky)
In 1824 the Federal Government paid to have a mission church built for the Wyandot Indians in present day Upper Sandusky, Ohio. In 1843 the Federal Government forced these same Native Americans to leave the state. The Wyandot are long gone but, you can still visit their church which has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. (Video recorded August 2014)
