Dayton, Ohio is one Midwestern town that seldom gets the attention that it should. Less than an hour's drive north of Cincinnati and just 72 miles south of the state's capital, Columbus, Dayton is known for being the 'birthplace of Aviation'.
Even though as you probably learned in grade school, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina was the location where the Wright brothers took their first inaugural flight in 1903, Dayton was the town that Orville and Wilbur called home. Everywhere you turn in Dayton, you'll find little bits of history directly related to the Wright's fascinating story.
Dayton's National Museum of the US Air Force was built in 1923. It has since become the largest military aviation museum in the world (it's also now the oldest), boasting more than 400 aircraft and missiles in its expansive collection.
If airplanes aren't really your thing, Dayton has a wide range of attractions that will be sure to please everyone in your family. From the engaging and kid-friendly Boonshoft Museum of Discovery to the immersive and historically rich SunWatch Indian Village, Dayton is one of the premier destinations in the country if you're looking to expand your knowledge of the world around you.
Situated along the shores of the Greater Miami River, Dayton boasts a thriving arts and culture scene, several world-class restaurants that will leave your taste buds buzzing, and a handful of parks and natural wonders you won't want to miss.

Maumee Bay State Park Campsite Review - Oregon, Ohio #shorts #ohiocamping #travel
Maumee Bay State Park Campground Review and Things to Do - Oregon, Ohio
#ohiostateparks #maumeebaystatepark #campgroundreviews
Full Park Tour:
We are loving Ohio State Parks. In this video, we drive around Maumee Bay State Park and show you day-use areas, lodge, cottages, and campsites. This is a large park covering 1,336 acres.
Maumee Bay State Park is located in Oregon, Ohio on the shores of Lake Erie. You can't see Lake Erie from the campsites but can bike or drive there. There are many ponds, an inland swimming lake, a golf course, paved and grass trails, wildlife, and peaceful picnic areas.
What we love about Maumee Bay State Park:
1. Large, private sites. Sites are level, have soft grass, and some have trees.
2. Ponds, lakes, Lake Erie
3. Wildlife - You will see deer here. We saw many deer, other critters, and a variety of birds.
4. Quiet and peaceful even on the weekend due to the layout of the campground. Campsites are located on spurs so even if the all sites are occupied, it doesn't feel full.
5. Weekend activities - Check at the check-in station because these events change.
6. Close to towns and supplies. Toledo, Ohio is just five miles away.
7. There are some FHU sites on the first spur.
8. Paved and grass trails to hike, bike, or run.
9. Oregon Inn Restaurant, has good food just minutes from the park.
10. Campsites are reasonably priced. No added vehicle fees, bonus!
What we didn't love about Maumee Bay State Park:
1. Most sites are electric only, but there is a water fill station at the dump station area. This is definitely not a deal breaker. Just plan accordingly.
2. Know that Ohio State Parks reservation system will kick you off after 15 minutes even if you are active on the site. If you are like me and you like to look and read about available sites, you may exceed that time. It also happened when I tried to reserve for more than one park. Plan accordingly.
We are so happy that we found availability at Maumee Bay State Park. It was a great visit. Happy travels!

Hiking The West Woods | Geauga County Parks, OH
The West Woods, Home to Ansel's Cave and Affelder Falls, is located in Geauga County, OH. It is part of the Geauga County Parks system, and has 4.2 miles of trails that wind through approximately 900 acres of woodland.
Ansel's Cave is closed to the public. However, it can be viewed from a boardwalk that runs adjacent to the cave on the appropriately named Ansel's Cave Trail. Geauga County Parks sometimes offer a guided tour of the cave.
Affelder Falls is accessible by a short 1/4 mile hike. The waterfall has low flow, so it's best to visit after a heavy rainfall if you're looking to see the falls in action.
For more information regarding West Woods, visit Geauga County Parks:

The Ansel's Cave Trailhead is located next to the Turkey Ridge Shelter, which is just south of the West Woods Nature Center:
