We stayed at Uppuveli beach and Nilaveli beach and had an amazing time. These are considered to be hidden paradises where not many tourists visit.
Due to the long conflict between the government forces and the Tamil Tigers, this part of Sri Lanka was cut off from tourism for decades, so remain considerably undeveloped in comparison to the resorts in the South.
Now, in peacetime, they are becoming discovered and are a paradise for the adventurous traveller who wants to get off the beaten track.
An excellent day trip is into the bustling city of Trincomalee where you find a Portuguese Fort and an impressive Hindu temple... as well as free roaming deer!
