Tremonton Utah Drive Through Tour in Box Elder County
When a townsite was laid out in 1903, the new town was named Tremont at the request of the German colony. Within four years, the post office had it renamed Tremonton due to confusion with the central Utah town of Fremont. Around 1907 the congregation was caught up in a larger schism of the Apostolic Church. Some moved back to the Midwest, and the German colony came to an end but the church left a permanent mark in the name of Tremonton, and a nearby cemetery filled with German names.

Welcome To Brigham City Utah! Near Ogden & Tremonton in Box Elder County!
Mormon pioneer William Davis first explored the Brigham City area in 1850. He returned with his family and others a year later to create permanent homes. Brigham Youngdirected Lorenzo Snow to lead additional settlers to the site and foster a self-sufficient city at the site in 1853. Snow directed both religious and political affairs in the settlement, eventually naming it Box Elder in 1855. When the town was incorporated on January 12, 1867, the name was changed to Brigham City in honor of Brigham Young. That same month, after the Utah legislature authorized a municipal election, residents elected Chester Loveland to be the town's first mayor. Brigham Young gave his last public sermon there in 1877 shortly before his death. In 1864, the cooperative movement began in earnest with the creation of a mercantile co-op store and was an important element of the United Order of Enoch. Other industries were added, and the Brigham City Co-op is widely recognized as the most successful of the Mormon Co-op ventures. Economic hardships brought an end to the Co-op in 1895, though the Co-op had first started selling businesses off in 1876.
World War II brought a major economic boost to the city. The federal government created Bushnell General Hospital on Brigham City's south side to treat soldiers wounded in the war. Locals sold supplies and food to the hospital while hospital staff patronized local businesses. After the war, the hospital's buildings were used as Intermountain Indian School. Many young Native Americans attended the boarding school until it closed in 1984, although the Intermountain I on the mountain is still visible in tandem with Box Elder High School's B. The facility has left its mark in a number of other ways, with most of the buildings still standing. Some have been converted into businesses and condos, while others remain empty. Utah State University purchased the site and demolished all remaining buildings in 2013. The Utah State University Brigham City regional campus will be expanded to permanent buildings on this site and will mainly serve students from Box Elder, Weber and Davis counties.
Despite layoffs over the past decade, much of Brigham City's economy relies on Thiokol, the creator of many missiles, as well as the solid rocket booster for the Space Shuttle. Additionally, the local Autoliv (formerly a part of Thiokol) airbag plants also net Brigham City many jobs. Nucor Corporation has two facilities in Brigham City, in addition to its steel mill in nearby Plymouth. The addition of a Walmart distribution center in nearby Corinne has also brought new jobs.

Wellsville Utah, Travel to the feel of small town USA
Nestled at the base of the Wellsville Mountain, a topographic curiosity because of its narrow base and unusual height, lies Wellsville - Cache County's oldest permanent settlement. It occupies the southwest corner of Cache Valley. On 15 September 1856, the families of Peter, John, and William H. Maughan, Zial Riggs, and Francis W. Gunnell, and two single men, George W. Bryan and O.D. Thompson, entered Cache Valley. There were twenty-five in the group, the oldest being forty-five and the youngest six weeks. They drove to a stream where they made their encampment; they called their settlement Maughan's Fort. Wagon boxes were taken off, and the women prepared homes in them. The men explored the valley and began to cut and stack the meadow hay for their livestock.13 November 1859 they changed the town's name from Maughan's Fort to Wellsville in honor of Daniel H. Wells, second counselor to President Brigham Young. Wellsville was surveyed in 1863 by James H. Martineau, who put into effect what was a Mormon community concept: four-square orientation with the points of the compass with the streets meeting at right angles. The land was divided into ten-acre blocks, each divided into eight lots of 1.25 acres.

Crystal Hot Springs, Honeyville Utah (high mineral content springs)
Please Like and Share!
Crystal Hot Springs is 12 miles north of Brigham City in the town of Honeyville, Utah. It has been run as a commercial enterprise since the beginning of the 20th Century. Before that the area surrounding the hot springs was a common gathering spot for the Shoshone-Bannock Native American tribes. Once a year they would gather at the springs and share stories and history of their ancestors. The building of the Transcontinental Railroad in the mid-19th century saw the construction of cedar tubs by Chinese laborers of Central Pacific Railroad. Numerous railroad workers stopped over to soak and the recover in the warm mineral water. In 1901 the springs were established as a business. During World War II President Roosevelt, a huge advocate of the healing abilities of mineral hot springs, started a rehabilitation program for wounded veterans. During the war, buses brought hundreds of soldiers to the spring. Today Crystal Hot Springs is still busy and on your visit to this popular Utah vacation destination you will find the pools filled with families and travelers.
