The prettiest village in North Devon 😍 location at the end 📍#uktravel #travel #uktravels #devon

The prettiest village in North Devon 😍 location at the end 📍

Originally the estate was owned by William the Conqueror, King of England who gifted the village to his wife the Queen of England.

Also listed in the Domesday Book, this unique village clings to a 400-foot cliff, affording glorious coastal views.

This village has been under private ownership for many years which has helped preserve its beauty. The traffic-free cobbled streets descend into a small working harbour and 14th century quay.

You’ll notice romantic lanes that wind off along the route and show an insight into the history. Only sledges and donkey’s are allowed to transport up and down the famous cobbles.

Things to see and included in entry fee:

**The Donkeys**

The main form of transport in the village for centuries, they are perfectly adapted to coping with the steep, uneven cobbled streets. Nowadays, all goods are transported by wooden sledge and these famous residents live a far more relaxed life 😍

**Fishermans cottage**

Which is set up to replicate a typical family cottage in the 1930’s and makes you feel like you’re stepping back in time.

**Kingsley Museum**

Dedicated to Victorian author Charles Kingsley who lived in Clovelly during his childhood and wrote the book ‘Westward Ho!’ which popularised the village as a destination for visitors.

**Beach Waterfall**

If you walk along the beach to the first part of the cliff that is sunken back, you will spot a lovely little waterfall on the beach. Behind the curtain of water lies a hidden cave which is supposedly the former home of Merlin the wizard.

📍 Clovelly, North Devon 📍

**note** you can get a transfer back to the top of Clovelly so you don’t have to walk back up! 😅

**SAVE** to your UK bucket list 😍

The BEST Places to Visit in DEVON - Kingsbridge and Start Point

The BEST Places in DEVON - Day Out at Start Point and Kingsbridge and Crabshell Inn Restaurant is well worth a visit if you're visiting South Hams, Devon on holiday

Why not check out some of the best places in Devon. Go to Start Point lighthouse and then to the Crabshell Inn restaurant at Kingsbridge to have great food and relax with amazing views.

Start Point and Kingsbridge are in the South Hams region of South Devon and are very close to Salcombe, Exeter and Plymouth. A short drive from any of these places make these day trips a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.

There's a big car park at Start Point which is £3.50 to get in but well worth it, the walk down and back takes around 40 minutes. The drive from Start Point to Kingsbridge is around 25 minutes (around 9 miles). Kingsbridge is quite a big town with lots of nice shops and restaurants but the Crabshell Inn has a great selection of food and drinks. Well worth a visit.

Plymouth, Devon, UK. Ocean City Tour, Best Things To Do. 4k 🇬🇧

#Travel #Blockchain
#Plymouth #Devon

Plymouth is a port city in Devon, South West England, approximately 37 miles south-west of Exeter and 190 miles south-west of London. Enclosing the city are the mouths of the river Plym and river Tamar, which are naturally incorporated into Plymouth Sound to form a boundary with Cornwall.

Plymouth is known for its maritime heritage and historic Barbican district with narrow, cobbled streets. Sutton Harbour is home to the National Marine Aquarium. Also in the harbour are several marinas and a fish market, the Plymouth Fisheries. The Mayflower Steps are where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for the New World in 1620. Establishing Plymouth Colony, the second English settlement in what is now the United States of America.

During the 16th century, locally produced wool was the major export commodity. Plymouth was the home port for successful maritime traders, among them Sir Francis Drake, Mayor of Plymouth 1581–2. In 1588, according to legend, Drake insisted on completing his game of bowls on the Hoe before engaging the Spanish Armada.

Throughout the Industrial Revolution, Plymouth grew as a commercial shipping port, handling imports and passengers from the Americas, and exporting local minerals (tin, copper, lime, china clay and arsenic). The neighbouring town of Devonport became strategically important to the Royal Navy for its shipyards and dockyards. During World War II, due to the city's naval importance, the German military targeted and partially destroyed the city by bombing, an act known as the Plymouth Blitz. After the war, the city centre was completely rebuilt.

The city is home to 262,100 (mid-2019 est.) people, making it the 30th-most populous built-up area in the United Kingdom and the second-largest city in the South West, after Bristol. It is governed locally by Plymouth City Council. Plymouth's economy remains strongly influenced by shipbuilding and seafaring but has tended toward a service economy since the 1990s. It has ferry links to Brittany (Roscoff and St Malo) and to Spain (Santander). It has the largest operational naval base in Western Europe, HMNB Devonport, and is home to the University of Plymouth.

Because of its coastal location, the economy of Plymouth has traditionally been maritime, in particular the defence sector with over 12,000 people employed and approximately 7,500 in the armed forces. The Plymouth Gin Distillery has been producing Plymouth Gin since 1793, which was exported around the world by the Royal Navy. During the 1930s, it was the most widely distributed gin. Since the 1980s, employment in the defence sector has decreased substantially and the public sector is now prominent particularly in administration, health, education, medicine and engineering.

Devonport Dockyard is the UK's only naval base that refits nuclear submarines and the Navy estimates that the Dockyard generates about 10% of Plymouth's income. Plymouth has the largest cluster of marine and maritime businesses in the South West.

Plymouth has a post-war shopping area in the city centre with substantial pedestrianisation. At the west end of the zone inside a grade II listed building is the Pannier Market that was completed in 1959. In terms of retail floorspace, Plymouth is ranked in the top five in the South West and 29th nationally. The Tinside Pool is situated at the foot of the Hoe and became a grade II listed building in 1998 before being restored to its 1930s look for £3.4 million.

The annual British Firework Championships are held in August, which attracts tens of thousands of people across the waterfront.

The city's main theatre is Theatre Royal Plymouth, presenting large-scale West End shows and smaller works as well as an extensive education and outreach programme. Plymouth Pavilions stages music concerts, basketball matches and stand-up comedy.

Plymouth is the regional television centre of BBC South West. A team of journalists are headquartered at Plymouth for the ITV West Country regional station.

Plymouth is home to Plymouth Argyle F.C. who play in the third tier of English football league known as Football League One. The team's home ground is called Home Park. Other sports clubs include Plymouth Albion Plymouth Raiders and Plymouth Gladiators. Plymouth Albion Rugby Football Club is a rugby union club that was founded in 1875.

Totnes Walk: Town Centre【4K】

Located in the county of Devon, and around 20 miles east of Plymouth, is the town of Totnes.

According to a legend dating from the 12th century, Totnes was founded by none other than Brutus of Troy, the legendary first king of Britain, over 3,000 years ago. After landing on Britain's southwestern shores he supposedly proclaimed: Here I stand and here I rest, and this good town shall be called Totnes. The Brutus Stone on Fore Street (seen shortly after the 8-minute mark) marks the point at which said proclamation was allegedly made (although why he spoke in English rhyming couplets I'm not sure).

As far as verified history goes, the first record of Totnes dates back to 907 AD, when it was fortified by King Edward the Elder as part of a series of defensive burhs (i.e. fortified settlements in response to the Viking threat) built around Devon. The name 'Totnes' comes from the Old English personal name 'Totta' and 'ness', meaning headland i.e. steep gradient relative to its proximity to the sea.

Shortly after the Norman Conquest of 1066, Totnes Castle was constructed. Situated atop the highest point in town, this is one of the best preserved examples of a Norman motte and bailey castle in England, albeit with some repair work dating from the 14th century.

In 1206 Totnes was granted a royal charter by King John. Over the centuries that followed it grew to be a very prosperous town. By 1523 it was the second-richest town in Devon, and the sixteenth-richest in England.

In 1847 the railway arrived in Totnes, courtesy of the South Devon Railway Company. Today it is one of the main stops on the Exeter-Plymouth line, situated roughly halfway between the two cities.

In recent times, Totnes has earned a reputation as a town with an 'alternative' community, with many facilities for artists and musicians. In 2005, Highlife, the British Airways magazine, declared it one of the world's Top 10 Funky Towns. In 2007 Time magazine declared Totnes the capital of new age chic. In a move to support its local economy it launched its own currency, the Totnes pound, in 2007, although circulation ceased in 2019.
